In terms of mid-table (where I think we truly rank), PNE and Watford draw and Charlton, Hull and Leicester lose. I think Coventry and Ipswich will cruise the top 2 after Christmas. Boro, Stoke, Saints, Birmingham to make up the top 6. The likes of PNE, Hull, Millwall, Bristol City, Derby are miles off those mentioned above IMO. Yes I see Ipswich are on the up. Probably 3 points we will have lost there, buggar. Thise 3 points and a win tomorrow we'd be in the mix. Quote
bazza Posted Wednesday at 10:10 Posted Wednesday at 10:10 What's happened to Szmodics at Ipswich? Is he injured? When he plays he doesn't seem to score many. Quote

superniko Posted Wednesday at 11:37 Posted Wednesday at 11:37 Swansea are in free-fall, would be a nice team to drop as it's miles from anywhere. If we can trade Norwich / Pompey / Swansea for a Stockport / Bolton / Huddersfield / Bradford I'd be delighted! 2 Quote

"Who would want to buy a football club that loses tens of millions a year?" Turns out people are queuing up to do it. That's not what we're usually told. Same as with Coventry and Derby in the last few years. They got new owners and didn't end up with Bury in NW Counties equivalent. Crowds way up at both clubs and both above us in the table. Oh well 8 Quote
riverholmes Posted Wednesday at 23:40 Posted Wednesday at 23:40 (edited) Seeing Devlin sent off for Portsmouth against Sheffield Utd brought back memories of Paul Devlin, the Sheffield Utd player. He was at his peak as a midfielder in the days Rovers were on the rise from the second tier with our own stars in Duff, Dunn, Jansen and co. Football seemed more exciting back then, though could well have to do with the fact of our current fate. Edited Wednesday at 23:41 by riverholmes Quote

Oh well And Bolton and Potsmouth and Wrexham.....Bury still get same crowds they did in the football league, if not bigger too. Its not the end, its a fresh start. Clubs need to hit rock bottom to bounce back. We'll have nothing but apathy by the time we do due to the slow death we are having Quote
danger19_80 Posted Thursday at 17:40 Posted Thursday at 17:40 Mike Ashley trying to buy Wednesday. Christ, could you imagine. We finally get rid of Venky's and then he schleps up. Quote

I was watching an episode of the premiership on youtube a while back, every pass forward, people running at players, 2 up top, barely a refs whistle stopping play every 5 seconds. Its like a different sport. 5 Quote

He would be such a massive step up from them. And yes, I am well aware of how shit he is. 4 1 Quote
StHelensRover Posted 16 hours ago Posted 16 hours ago Well that win for Oxford was not a good result for us, but it gives a glimmer of hope that maybe we will be able to get at Ipswich again. Quote

We' re now only a point ahead of Oxford albeit with 2 games in hand. Temporarily. Quote
arbitro Posted 5 hours ago Author Posted 5 hours ago I watched Oxford beat Ipswich last night and I have to say their game plan was executed so well. They had a high, energetic press which brought about the first goal and also a couple of other chances. Ipswich just couldn't get their passing game going. Ipswich came back into it in the second half and equalised as they played a bit higher up the pitch. Oxford countered this with some clever substitutions and this culminated in the winning goal. Oxford were everything we aren't at home and despite them clawing back a few points on us it was pleasing to see a manager with a clear plan and players carrying this out. I hope Mr Aloof was watching and took note with Tuesday in mind. Quote
Backroom Tom Posted 1 hour ago Backroom Posted 1 hour ago Sheffield United are going to get out of it and truth be told any team under you is nice but I never expected them to remain there. I think any clubs hope of avoiding the drop sits with finishing above Wednesday, Portsmouth and Oxford personally 3 Quote
JHRover Posted 1 hour ago Posted 1 hour ago We knew it was only going to be a matter of time before Sheff Utd climbed out of it. Far too good a manager and squad for a bottom 3 spot. I wouldn't be surprised if they went on to reach the play offs this season. I would expect Norwich to follow in climbing but perhaps more slowly and gradually. Quote

I caught the last 10 mins of the Oxford game and they were absolutely under siege by that point but the keeper pulled off a couple of phenomenal saves, they were putting their bodies on the line defensively and generally they had a fire in their bellies you don't see from our lot, certainly not at home. It was stirring stuff but not particularly encouraging for our prospects when push comes to shove at the business end of the season. Quote
