Whilst I definitely agree that Ohashi has been run in the ground and it will affect his wider game, I don't think it's the reason he's missed some absolutely glaring opportunities. I just don't think he's a hugely composed finisher. He can score some solid goals, just not consistently. With that said, I also don't think being an out-and-out striker is his best role. If he was playing across the forward line, scoring 7-10 a season whilst we had a proper striker up top converting chances more regularly, it wouldn't be an issue. I actually think we were starting to see that with the Gudjohnsen/Ohashi partnership before Gudjohnsen got injured.

We need an Armstrong like striker that has some pace and stretch the field. The counter style with the 4-2-3-1 is the way but need to get some pace in the team badly.

A week of the window left… any inbound players linked?

Are you completely mad?

Gestede will be having a mini-hissy fit because a) there was a definite impact of the boycott at the game on Saturday and that means he will be under scrutiny and b) he definitely reads this forum and his stupid schoolboy ego will want someone to bash to compensate for all the hurtful things people say about his teensy weensy ikkle football brain which we all can see is weak and shrivelled and about as much use as clingfilm would have been in saving the Titanic.

Pasha will be chuckling mildly in that clearly slightly unhinged way he exhibits when caught in the limelight, because after all, he knows there is nothing to do because the coffers that he allows small change to be dropped into are now completely empty.

Unless you know different, it seems more likely that there will be outgoings rather than incomings, to balance the dodgy 'surface' books (the real accounts being something only those behind the curtains in Madame's smoking parlour in Pune get to pore over).

And anyway, hasn't the crazy bumbling frog uttered the magical words, "Players coming back from 'injury' (yeah right)..?"

Given our current position, what the fuck could we even offer in 'add ons'? Especially to bridge a 3.5m difference in valuation 🤣

I mean a team up the top end of the table can stick a promotion wedge in there but that's obviously not an option. He's not going to get an England call up. Probably leave appearances/goals and potentially a sell on clause if he's any good. Never happening.

Nixon news is about the Barnsley lad - In what world does he come to ewood? Nonsense story.

We obviously have a bit of money to spend. £1,5m plus add-ons is a good offer for a mid-table League One player.

Bristol City need a replacement for Mehmeti so can see them in the chase as well, as has been reported.

Why are we bothering with £1.5m bids if they want £5m?

Another complete load of bollox by Nixon.

All smoke & mirrors !

We don’t even really need another wide forward in my opinion. We need a down the middle battling ram. I’d like to see us take a look at Ballard at Leighton Orient if we‘re looking at lower leagues.

It isnt when the selling club wants £5m. Its an utterly pointless bid.

Must be a slow news day for Nixon.

Not a chance that is happening.

Even if it's true, and as good a player as he looks, is he really what we need, another wide forward ?

Surely we need a No 9, down the middle target man ?

Because they want 5 million. Then there's no way we will need to pay them 1.5 million.

More gruel for the fools in the fanbase to lap up. 'We tried, obviously they're backing us, Barnsley are just greedy, difficult market' etc.

The way the squad has been assembled and they are "trying" to further add to it is bizarre. There seems to be no thought in terms of creating a balanced squad for a favoured, consistent formation

It's just negotiation, don't think for a minute Barnsley expect to get £5m for him, but they.ad a selling club aim high while the buying club go with a low ball offer.

Usually means they meet somewhere in the middle, which will probably still be toouch for us

For the post window narrative

‘we tried but other clubs were unrealistic’

Seems to be entirely speculative, but this article suggests Rovers as a landing spot for Canadian national team striker Cyle Larin: https://www.footballtransfers.com/nl/transfernieuws/nl-eredivisie/2026/01/cyle-larin-neemt-afscheid-van-feyenoord-turkije-lonkt-als-volgende-stap

Not getting enough minutes on his Feyenoord loan, so looking for a new spot to fight to keep his place in the Canadian national team for the World Cup.

His club career has had ups-and-downs, and he's gradually been surpassed as a starter for the national team (was neck-and-neck with Jonathan David for most national team goals until fairly recently. Plenty of goals against CONCACAF minnows, but also huge goals vs USA and Mexico), but I think he'd still be quite effective at this level.

Good physical target man, generally works hard, decent (if inconsistent) poacher, and ok with link up play. The game can kind of 'pass him by' if it's not a tactical 'fit'. Still on a La Liga contract with Mallorca (where he hasn't quite 'gelled'), so would require some negotiation on the salary contribution. Otherwise, linked to FC Twente or moving back to Super Lig.

If you want to go over 295 pages on his career from Canadian soccer nerds...: https://www.canadiansoccernews.com/topic/75160-cyle-larin/page/295/

Anyway, take all of the above with a grain of salt, but I take my opportunities to expound about a Rovers link to a Canadian soccer (sore-y) player haha

'Investment signing'

Money tends to suddenly become available for one they think they can polish and flog on flog double.

Regardless of where or where not they might blend into the team, this is why we have the managers we do.

Can't knock a target man for struggling in Spain, and has had a few prolific seasons.  If Feyernoord saw something useful, and the player wants to make a claim for a world cup year - there's worse punts

Barnsley with the help of nIxon are using us as leverage to get more money out of Bristol City, where he'll inevitably end up.

The nickoteens and happy clappers will wail 'what do we expect they get 20k every week'.
