  1. Glad you don't work for the Parole Board haha. Learning from mistakes? Let's look at two early ones. 1 2012 Dismantling infrastructure/ board of directors, manned by people with experience and genuine football know-how..... 2019- Is the situation fit for purpose? 2 2012 Allowing introduction of new player purchase policy based on considerations, other than on- field requirements........2019 Ben Brereton?...Defenders are coming etc. I could go on, but reports of their learning from mistakes are...greatly exaggerated.

  2. Well why the bloody hell don't the arrogant sods get on with it and show some interest and correct their mistakes? 10 years on and were still waiting.......... Yes that's right Hypnotic, they have made terrible mistakes, crippled the club but it's time to forgive? LIKE FCUK!!!!

  3. I’m certainly not bitter but I possess a very long memory. Just remember a pessimist is an optimist with experience. There have been reasons why this lot bought us and still exist, and I don’t think any are of benefit to the club nor it’s fans.

  4. Mowbray has been backed. He has spent close to 15 million on Brererton ,Gallagher and Armstrong. Downing,Holtby and Johnson will also have been given hefty signing on fees. Christ plenty of reasons to criticise our owners but no way can Mowbray complain about lack of backing. Rejected a big money bid from West brom for Dack last year, and he has given a host of players improved contracts here. Only player we have sold of any value in his time here has been Raya and it was clear Mowbray didn't fancy him

  5. It beggars belief that some folk are saying Venkys have learned from their mistakes! Here we are 9 years into their time with us STILL worrying that if Mowbray leaves then they’ll employ someone worse. Does that sound like an organisation that has learned from their mistakes??

  6. Barnsley haven't won away? Well there it is then. Rovers'll fix it for ya. Get your money on Barnsley. There's your licence to print money.

  7. Oh come on Stuart you know as well as I do he will still be here even if we get hammered. Sorry for your lad though. Keep his chin up, remind him it is a lifetime of suffering being a Rover, it is character building for him. If he can make it being a Rovers fan anything else in life is a piece of cake.

  8. JHRover issued a challenge the other day for anybody to name one area of the club where we have seen an improvement in the last nine years. That includes ALL aspects of the club. I can't think of any.

  9. Expect another familiar tale. Positive first 10 minutes where we have them on the rack and apply pressure. They hang on in there and weather the storm. Score with their first chance of the game. We feel sorry for ourselves but rally after half time. Have nearly all the possession and pressure but cant score. Eventually get the equaliser and go home with a point. Manager can point towards another 'dominant' display.

  10. We are still accreditted and I am sure if we applied to attend Pressers then we would be allowed to attend. A few years ago when I had more time I did try to go every week. Problem these days is finding time to go.
    3 points
  11. Q: If Venkys apologised and stated that they would attend the next home game, how would you feel? A: Time to find a Snowball. A big one. This thread passed me by before, can't fathom out why but maybe I just avoided their name in the Title. Forgive and draw a line? NOT in this lifetime or the hereafter.

  12. Not saying he hasn't been backed with cash, but perhaps he's had his hands tied in other ways. Perhaps its just because I'm trying to convince myself that no manager would ever be so stupid as to do what we have with spending nothing on the defence and everything on the attack.

  13. Because I do not hold grudges. If someone is willing to learn by their mistakes, let them. Holding them in contempt will not gain the Rovers as a club anything. At least lets try everything to get the club back on track.

  14. I agree in principle but Bowyer was within spitting distance of the playoffs. A manager like Warnock would've got that group of players into the top six, if not promotion.

  15. I think it’s because you say so many games are home bankers, it doesn’t really carry much weight.

  16. Im sure Barnsley fans thought the same when O'Neill was appointed at Stoke. 1 45 mins training session and they win 4-2.

  18. Just like games at home to Charlton Luton and Huddersfield were all home bankers yeah? No thanks. Can see us losing this one if I’m honest. Think they’ll come and frustrate us and hit us on the counter, when teams do that to us at Ewood that’s when we struggle most. When teams come and attack we tend to come out with a better result. 2-1 Barnsley and nothing much more than a few murmurings from the 8,000 rovers fans in attendance.

  19. I’m don’t disagree but the current rate of annual losses to fund the club will mean In Ten years time , Venkys will be close to having £0.5billion invested in Rovers.... half a feckin billion .!! now we have debated many times why they don’t have a proper go to try to get to the PL which would at least see them recover something if they sold it but this slow death is just impossible to comprehend. But however wealthy they are you have to think that the plug is gonna get pulled before they get to those sort of numbers .Then what ??? so for all those who thank Venkys for keeping paying the bills I suggest there needs to be a stop and think moment. This can’t continue indefinitely.

  20. Moot point really. Venkys would never apologise, or be contrite and accept their failures. One, because it's not really part of their culture I understand, and two, because they strike me as pretty arrogant and spoilt human beings. Besides, words are empty. Actions do the talking. Get us realistically competing for promotion to the Prem and my views might soften. But signing cheques off to prop up the club certainly isn't enough to earn my forgiveness. They created this mess, and are doing very little to rectify it. They're merely stopping us sinking further, halting the decline. Now way I'm going to be thankful or forgiving for that.
    1 point
  21. Yeah, no, I’m not going to do that. They need to put us back where we were when they sidled up and then leave.

  22. I think Allardyce definitely put his foot down as far as being forced to sign Kentaro players, perhaps knowing he'd get the boot as a result, but he was still going to make sure he got a payoff. Can't blame him for that but the fact remains Lambert has been the only manager to walk away under Venky's tenure. Technically Kean falls into that category as well, however his court case (and subsequent £1.2m payout) amounted to him suggesting he was forced out (effectively sacked) rather than resigning of his own volition. There is also that interesting article from way back then in which Andy Cole says he was told Kean would replace Allardyce months before it actually happened... (the article is still online but I can't get it to show up - https://www.thenational.ae/steve-kean-can-do-job-at-blackburn-1.560386) Nonetheless a direct quote from that article: "a trusted little bird told me two months ago what was going to happen. He said that the club would be taken over by an Indian company and that Sam would be pushed aside, to be replaced by the coach Steve Kean. If Keano does well then he keeps the job. If I knew that, then Sam did and he is probably right to think that he is been stabbed in the back." If Cole had heard that then you have to think that Allardyce must have gotten wind of it at some point as well, as Andy says...

  23. Funny isn’t it, we worry ourselves to death about hanging onto managers in case we get worse yet every one of them has had to lower their ambitions after leaving Rovers. Apart from one. Kean in exile Berg to Poland Appleton to L2 (prom to L1, left) Bowyer to L2 (prom to L1, left) Lambert to Championship (levelled out tbf) Coyle to Scotland (relegated bottom of SPL) Mowbray from L1 (failed with Coventry!)

  24. Character building for your children? My eldest saw Rovers win the title in his second season. Another long-suffering supporter advised me to inform my lad that we had missed out at the death...... and keep the truth from him for 20 years!

  25. Sorry Stuart but it looks like you will have some consoling to do. Kiss of death.

  27. The only thing they've learned, as far as I can tell, is that it's better to stay silent and avoid coming anywhere near Blackburn. Otherwise they're still making the same mistakes they were making in the beginning. 9 years and the closest we've come to a genuine manager is Paul Lambert, who saw what was going on here and decided after six months he'd rather be unemployed. The day they employ a genuine, experienced manager and back him with funds is the day I'll believe they might be learning something about running a football club. As long as they keep employing cheap cast-offs who can't or won't get us performing on the pitch I'm of the opinion they have learnt absolutely nothing and moreover after nearly a decade you have to assume they aren't interested in becoming better owners. For whatever reason they just want us to keep ticking along as a loss-making enterprise bouncing between the second and third divisions of English football.

  29. Yep: https://www.lancashiretelegraph.co.uk/news/politics/quicktest/18048701.barnsley-name-new-boss-time-rovers-trip/ New manager bounce incoming. We all know the script.

  32. He's been injured so after a season 'bedding' him in with 10 min cameos out of position do we really expect the next 6/7 months to be any different to that ? No. There is a monumental amount of arse covering going on with this one imo.

  33. I followed my dad's team too. We were living in Bromley, Kent at the time. My first game was away at Millwall back in '85. I was 7 at the time. Talk about baptism of fire. We won 1-0 and the train ride home was one of the scariest things I can remember as a child.

  34. We've lost 4, won 1 and drawn 1 of the last 6. Points total might be the same but at least Barnsley have managed to get something from 4 of their games, where as we got nothing in 4 of ours. This is anything but a home banker.

  36. What the hell is that Mowbray 1000 days article in today’s LT ? Is it just me or is Mowbray some genius manager who has saved our Club? It’s like he’s some kind of messiah reading that . Christ we are in a relegation scrap for the short term at least and yet there is more babble about us being in far better shape than when he arrived . Really? Considering what he’s spent ? another classic LT article no doubt prescribed by the clubs own spin doctors . Its like we’ve been dropped into the Trueman Show

  37. Fucking hell, with Mowbray’s obsession with putting people where they shouldn’t go he will want the away fans in the Riverside one week, then move them to the Jack Walker for the first 20 minutes of the next game before finishing up on the Blackburn end roof.

  38. No chance. Blackburn Rovers. Same team as my Dad supported. And I remember the 1st game Dad took me to. I was hook on Rovers from 6/7 years old. I love looking back to the early PL years and some of those great performances. Will never forget

  39. Quite a problem that it is now more than 18 years since the owner/largest shareholder in the club actually wanted to own it, wanted to improve it, wanted to better it and acted on that. I don't need to repeat things about Venkys and their complete lack of interest or pride in Rovers (can't even be bothered to come to the UK to watch the odd game). But even before Venkys we had reluctant and disinterested owners who had no interest in the club or growing and improving it. Admittedly they had the sense to employ capable people to run it for them but they were at best caretakers holding the fort whilst trying to get rid of the club.

  40. So there will be a Wigan offer. But I imagine it will be some convoluted set up instead of £15 anywhere and £1 a kid etc.

  41. Incredible how much time has been and gone under their ownership. At my age I was too young to really enjoy the golden era of the early to mid 90s and wasnt old enough to be able to go to the European games abroad in the 2000s. The point at which I was able to travel and immerse myself in Rovers was in the late Hughes era of 2007-08. Unfortunately for me 9 of the 12 years since then have been dire. Bad timing. As for Venkys - I can't think of a single thing in 9 years that they have improved at Rovers. 9 years and god knows how many millions of pounds and not a single element of the club is better than it was when they arrived. Financially it is a disaster zone. Footballing wise we are nowhere near. Comercial/Corporate - regression Infrastructure- zero investment beyond essential maintenance and it shows Boardroom- almost an insult to compare to what it was. All the while smaller clubs without the 'benefit' of billionaire owners and Walkers legacy have caught up and overtook us. Simple question for Waggott at the start of the next consultation meeting - Steve, please can you name one single thing at Rovers that has benefited from Venky involvement in the last 9 years? If not, why should we be grateful at being £150 million in debt to them for it?

  42. At the moment, having Tony as our leader is as good as it’s going to get. We’re an average Championship side that’s going to be stuck in mid table forever. Tony’s a nice guy who has sorted out some of our problems, forged a good relationship with our owners and got rid of a lot of deadwood. However, his track record as a manager isn’t too impressive and, for me, he possess neither the nouse nor the credentials to take us to the next level. Were we to get someone in with a bit more mettle, a bit more authority and the ability to win games by employing both the right tactics and the right players, you would hope that this type of manager would have sat down with the owners to discuss a plan. Yes, a plan. Maybe a short term plan or hopefully a longer term plan. That’s what a Souness type manager would demand. A plan on where we would want to be in two or three years time and a more importantly a budget for player purchases to help that plan unravel. Ever since Venky’s rolled in to town (other than paying us a bit of false lip service and a few photos in the LT) they have been conspicuous by their absence. That’s nine fecking years of absence. Nine years of managers having to travel to India for discussions and coming back none the wiser. No strategy, no budget, no plan. Big Sam grasped hold of the situation immediately and walked. Not that they didn’t have a plan. He didn’t get that far. He foresaw the car crash that we were about to become. We’ll never get anyone of Sam’s ability, or close to it, ever again. So, unless Venky’s change the way they operate (if it hasn’t happened in nine years, it never will), we are left with relatively unambitious, run of the mill managers who will gladly take their very nice monthly salary without asking too many questions. Or...we take a chance on an up and coming, younger manager at a lower level. Someone with something to prove. Someone like Gareth Ainsworth. Bearing in mind Waggot falls into the same category as Mowbray, he’ll be unwilling to rock the boat and more than unwilling to have a poor decision (if it turns out that way) fall on his shoulders. So, that leaves us in a sea of mediocrity, with a bang average captain, riding the waves in permanent mid table until such time as our hand is forced ie. relegation or as near as. We’re right back to November 2010, knowing that the club can’t and won’t progress until new owners are at the helm.

  43. 4-1, piece of p***. We’ll be swigging back the merlot by full time. What are you worried about?

  44. We need a change but he isn’t the answer. We need someone with a track record of success in the Championship. He hasn’t even finished a season in the top half of League 1, let alone the Championship. I still have nightmares about the Ince appointment. Chris Hughton’s the man for me.
