  1. Filan- Probably the second best keeper in my 25 years of following the Rovers, would have him in goal over Flowers and definitely over Robinson. Ooijer - Never really appreciated as a fullback, although he was a model pro and put in some solid performances after a particularly rocky start to his Rovers career. You don’t play that many times for the Netherlands if you’re not a good player. Henchoz - Reputation tarnished by the 1998/1999 relegation, but don’t think it was entirely his fault, showed his class and ability at Liverpool and in his brief return under Hughes. Khizanishvili - Forgotten about during the Samba/Nelsen years, but would have been a regular in other seasons, so composed on the ball, don’t remember him making many mistakes. Bjornebye - Hardly a big list to choose from, Le Saul clearly the best we’ve had, probably followed closely by Warnock, but Bjornebye was also very good, would be a huge asset in the current team. Gillespie - Hard to choose an under rated right midfielder as the obvious choices all seem to have gotten the credit they deserve, but Gillespies old school “chalk on your boots” wing play was great. Flitcroft - Perennially under rated, not just for his ability, but for his leadership. Never hear his name mentioned in anyone’s best XI and maybe rightly, but was a great servant of the club, won promotion and lifted the League Cup as a Rover, plus a winner against Man Utd too! Carsley - Not remembered with a great deal of fondness as he forced his way out of the club somewhat, but scored 11 goals (mostly penalties) during his Player of the Year season in 1999/2000. Had he stayed for the 2000/01 season I think his legacy would be a lot different. Wilcox - His “Bolser Boy (sp?)” nickname is from just before I started watching Rovers, aged 5, but I do remember him being widely disliked. Unusual for a homegrown player who went on to win a Premier League medal and represent his country. His legacy has improved as time has gone on, but he remains a bone of contention with a certain era of Rovers fans. Dickov - Top scorer in 2004/05 a real terrier up top, granted, not the most gifted striker we’ve ever had, but scored goals at the top level for both club and country. Stead - It’s hard to pick strikers, as they either score or they don’t! But decided on Stead, not because he was actually a world beater or actually Premier League quality, but for his story! Plucked from Division 3 obscurity for little money and his run of goals saved us from the drop and in a roundabout way, facilitated the Hughes era and the good times that followed. I know this isn’t lost on anyone who was old enough at the time, but Stead scored 6 goals for Rovers in 2003/04 Middlesbrough (a) 1-0 - Stead Newcastle (h) 1-1 - Stead Aston Villa (a) 2-0 - Flitcroft, Stead Fulham (a) 4-3 - Cole, Douglas, Amoruso, Stead Everton (a) 1-0 - Stead Manchester Utd (h) 1-0 - Stead An uninspiring overall record for him, and talent wise not fit enough to lace the boots of McCarthy, Santa Cruz, Bellamy etc... but in terms of impact, in the last 20 years, it’s hard to think of many above him.

  2. There are comments about protecting the integrity of football. What integrity?

  3. Just tried to add some meat to the bones if you will. Flowers obviously a top keeper also, just opinions. Kenna almost made the cut. Others Kevin Gallacher - particularly the 1997/98 season where Sutton grabbed most of the headlines and two penalties, to share the Golden boot on 18, yet Gallacher scored 16 in the league and 20 in total vs. Sutton’s 18 in the league and 21 in total. Damien Johnson - forged a good career despite never really nailing down a place at Ewood Craig Short - Model professional, very good for us in the promotion season and transitioned back to the Premier League with ease, despite being the wrong side of 30.

  5. I couldn't disagree more DeeCee, maybe in their younger days but absolute fooking animals in later life. No doubt about it, Blackburn was a leader in the Acid House movement, light years ahead of much bigger citys across the country. Locally, Preston and the dingles were still fighting with Halifax and Rochdale, Blackburn was leading the way on the national dance scene, we've always been light years ahead of those backward fookers.

  6. you had to be there in that era to appreciate standing on the old blackburn end with a team put together on a shoestring that played good, honest attacking football, promotion might have brought a season or two in the top flight before the sky behamoth took over,in the end jack would have come on board anyway imo,he was showing interest for a couple of years beforehand,i`ve never felt so bad about a result after that palace game, devasted as i was about englands demise in the 1990 world cup,it still did`nt come close to how bad i felt about that play off

  8. You're thinking of Enzo, and yeah he was great on the mic but a total bellend backstage. Neville/PAC was so incensed at being asked to drop the cruiserweight title to him that he walked out. I imagine when the rape accusation was announced they were more than happy to get rid. The fact they never brought him back once he was cleared kind of says it all. Yeah in the States there are a lot of areas where you're a minor if you're under the age of 18. It's obviously a bit weird for us to see a 17 year old described as a minor due to the age of consent being 16 in the UK. I did read that one of the boys Dream was allegedly in contact with was 15 though which is obviously bad times in most countries. Again though there's no specific proof so until he's charged by the police I don't think anyone should assume his guilt. As for how Vince will react, who knows at this point, the guy is completely unpredictable.

  10. To be honest Vince would probably have ruined him if he had gotten called up anyway, but he certainly has all the tools to be a huge success. Considering the charges against him his ring name is slightly unfortunate now though ?

  14. He only mentions integrity in the context of finishing the competitions rather than any other solutions that are being banded about. Do you not agree with that?

  15. I really hope he turns out to be innocent in all of this and it is just a very sophisticated hack by somebody with a grudge. It's beyond stupid otherwise if he genuinely did do this.

  16. Spot on. Best case scenario for anti scouse fans of which I am one, is they are awarded it on points per game. At least we can claim they were handed it despite the season never being completed.

  17. Oh yeah, Persona 5's music score is immense. A lot of it is not traditionally what I listen to but it sounds great. All of the battle and boss themes are top notch, as good as any Final Fantasy game. I think the music is especially important in an RPG as you play it for so long and will hear a lot of the same songs repeated (especially battle themes) so they need to be good or they end up being annoying.

  19. Sound effects and music are key aspects of a game in my book. Bloodborne is so creepy. Red dead is perfectly pitched, but special mention of my recently played games goes to Persona 5. I have definitely hummed some of them the following day at work. I'm a shapeshifter....

  20. No so much a result, just a goal. I would have loved Grabbi's embarrassment of the clown at Ewood to stand. It looked legitimate to me, but.... and he would forever have been a legend (so to speak).

  21. The Celtic loss hurt me the most as I was at a glasgow high school and was confident all day of a rovers win, got pelters next day. honourable mentions to trelleborgs embarrassment and Newcastle knocked us out the fa cup in a replay 93/94 , lee Clark scored, I felt we had a chance to win the cup that year

  23. I nearly dropped someone in the sh~t with a particular Acid House party. Down Pump Street, around 1990 (From my book Blowing With The Blackburn Trades). The funniest thing which happened to George was when Walmsley and him nearly got themselves arrested in the early hours of a particular Sunday morning. It was the common practice for Walmsley to get drunk every Saturday dinner time and fall asleep in such a way as he would be dead to the world. Some rotten devil, usually me, would draw all over his face with a red or green felt tip pen until he looked a bit like a Maori from New Zealand. We wouldn't tell him what we'd done when he woke up and keep straight faces for the rest of the evening while he carried on where he left off boozing. If I was really cruel I would invite him to accompany me on a pub crawl without letting the penny drop. On one particular night Walmsley - face painted once again - supped in the club till four in the morning with George. They went for some supper down King Street afterwards. What they didn't know was an acid party had been taking place down Pump Street, the police were called to disperse the ravers. When the cops saw Walmsley they assumed like anybody else he was one of the acid kids and pulled him and George. Walmsley's luck must have been in as he came out with the all-time classic excuse for the police by saying: "How can we be acid kids? Look at us we're pissed. This lot are into drugs, we're into beer!" The police let them go, giving them five minutes to get home or they would be offered another bed for the night.

  24. One of the articles in Alex Rover's link says; "A big change in dynamics was the Live The Dream rave in the village of Tockholes on September 16, 1989 I've no idea if that was the beginning or the end. I was 12, too young to understand. I do remember driving to Sunday morning football matches across East Lancs and having to follow diversions because of road blocks. My dad had a mate who was a copper in Accy. I remember him telling stories of the chaos at Monroe's. Who could imagine today that a dodgy nightclub in Great Harwood would be in the middle of a movement.

  25. I am with you on a lot of this Vinjay. Rovers have not capitalised on the enthusiasm that the 'success' of promotion from league 1 generated. The last two seasons have been drab and a lack of any real sign of ambition from the club means that it is losing the interest of many people as readily as it is losing money on a daily basis. The owners lack of interest is permeating down to the fanbase. I don't attend matches at Ewood but i believe the atmosphere is non existant and the match day experience is poor. New marketing and thinking outside the box are essential to regenerate interest. Obviously an exciting team and success on the field is the best way to get interest up again but I can't see this at the moment. The current pandemic may cause people to realise how unimportatnt football is in the whole scale of things. Many may not return unless the product on offer is improved. Any new ideas will need to by approved in Pune and be presented by Steve Waggott who is only interested in instant financial benefit.so chances of anything exciting happening are slim. I think what you ( Vinjay ) are hoping for is a St Pauli type set up which really is exciting and has captured the imagination of football fans throughout the world. Football is almost secondary to the fact that people identify with the ethos of the club and it's authenticity as a real 'club' that people feel part of. How I would love that for Rovers. Musicians are queing up to play before and after St Pauli matches and see it as a privilege. Rovers, as a club, under Venky's is a damp squib. Anyway, at the moment football is not important but maybe in the future we will get our Rovers back. Stay safe.

  27. Agree definitely need to focus on the young fans but that's difficult because they've taken all the craic out of it for some. Shutting the DE where youth liked to gather and have banter with away fans is a dropped bollock in that. They aim more for the young kids and families but they just don't seem to want the hassle of youth at Ewood. Should reopen the DE lower and make a section for 500 16-21 year olds and let it catch on Rovers is the place to be on a Sat afternoon not stood in the town centre or hanging around the streets. To do that they'd have to make it affordable and cater for them on that concourse food, drink, music wise etc. Yes there'd be some dick heads but there always has been yet other clubs seem to handle it, i'll repeat again our lot don't want the bother.

  28. Come to think of it, whilst I'm talking about Final Fantasy music I'd be remiss in failing to mention The Black Mages. Basically a rock/metal group formed by the guy who created the music for all of the classic FF games, Nobou Uematsu. I guess it's basically how the music would have sounded if not for the hardware limitations of the NES/SNES/PS1. Some of the tracks are absolutely incredible. Well worth checking out their first album from 2003. Force Your Way and The Decisive Battle are the pinnacle of music, and I won't hear any arguments otherwise. All the FFVII tracks sound great too.

  29. Now I can get behind most of that . I would fully back all players to speak there mind and say it how it is . We signed players like Bellamy before and that paid off. I just don’t agree with downsizing the academy, signing “characters” if they aren’t going to put the club first or bringing maradona here. I’m all for thinking outside the box but there is being innovative and there’s kamakaze and whilst I can agree on some things your saying I also think you need to remember what Blackburn rovers actually is, a proud historic football club in the not so cosmopolitan part of east lancashire. It isn’t thinking small or being defeatist to remember your roots and be proud of what you are. I would rather watch average hard working footballers than try and turn us into a circus for corporate gain and media publicity

  30. So you do agree the only way for the club to progress is with success on the pitch

  31. If I could change only one result in MY time of watching Rovers it would be to reverse a scoreline. F.A.Cup final 1960. Wolves 0 Rovers 3. That was 60 years ago. Good heavens! But it would have given us an extra FA Cup win and extra trophy that would last for ever, even when people have forgotten Selhurst Park and the Chelsea semi-final. That season we had already beaten the cream of the first division; Spurs, Burnley and Sheff Wed. All we had to do was beat the fourth of the cream teams, But there was Derek Dougan and Dave Whelan's broken leg. Alas.......not to be.

  32. If the season isn’t finished or is cancelled then there can be no champions, promotions or relegations. Very simple for me.

  33. If it means next season is more likely to happen then I’m leaning towards agreeing with scrapping this season, the bonus of Liverpool not winning the title also helps. I think especially because it’s Liverpool though all stops will be pulled out to ensure they have officially won it

  34. That's my recollection of him too Andy. I always thought he was decent but that was it. I understand though he was an excellent anchor man for televised football in Spain which was some achievement given that Spanish wasn't his first language.
