DeadlyDirk Posted January 16, 2012 Posted January 16, 2012 Don't blame him for wanting to leave but very disappointed in the way he seems to have gone about it, assuming he faked the injury and then stamped his feet to get a transfer. Biggest worry is I'd have no confidence in any kind of replacement being brought in so we might have to try and stick it out with Givet/Dann/Hanley as our options. Oh well, hope he turns out rubbish wherever he ends up.

Backroom DE. Posted January 16, 2012 Backroom Posted January 16, 2012 He has to go, but it also has to be for the right money. Anything less than £10m and it's a no-go. If it gets to the end of the window and nobody's offered that amount then Samba will have to suck it up, stop acting like a baby and fulfil the 5 year contract he signed last year, broken promises or not.
AJW Posted January 16, 2012 Posted January 16, 2012 We'll miss him , although i dont think SK will see much of the fee to re-invest in the team, we need a sale to get some players in
davulsukur Posted January 16, 2012 Posted January 16, 2012 My big fear is that we sell him and the money is then split between the bank and Pune. I suspect that Kean will still be looking for loans no matter how much we get for Samba. It's also the message it sends to the other players if they see one of the king-pins of the side allowed to leave at this point. Surely the owners could suggest that Samba sees out the season at Ewood and then they put him up for sale in the summer. The trick is surely to keep him motivated for the remainder of the season and then allow him to move on in the summer. I accept that it is difficult to keep a player when he wants to leave and usually I would be happy to let an unhappy player leave. However, in our present situation I feel that Samba is vital for retaining any hope of Premier League survival. Although we won on Saturday, the fact remains that Samba is not only important defensively, but he is also the focal point of the majority of our set pieces. I agree with this. I don't think our win on saturday without him should make any difference as to how important he is to a relegation battle.
Exiled in Toronto Posted January 16, 2012 Posted January 16, 2012 I'm not at all sure he'll be off. The only redeeming feature I've noticed in our new owners is that they don't take well to insubordination
Mercer Posted January 16, 2012 Posted January 16, 2012 PSG show us the money. Sell him on our terms only, and only if 100% is re-invested in the team. We are not in the driving seat. Clubs know (and Clements will !) that we are financially hamstrung. Almost certain that Barclays will want a big, big part of any fee. IMO, as said previously, he will go for £8 to £10m. Has to go, no use and, IMO, now a negative influence. Strip him of captaincy and get shut asap.
slough_rover Posted January 16, 2012 Posted January 16, 2012 Thing is even if we get 12mill for him do we really believe we will see any of it reinvested into the squad?
BRFC4EVA Posted January 16, 2012 Posted January 16, 2012 I agree with those who have said that a man like Samba is important in a relegation battle, but if a player wants to leave and we can get a decent fee for him, then surely he has to go. He is hardly infallible, his error effectively cost us the Carling cup semi at Villa a couple of years back and he sometimes has a tendency to hold onto the ball too long at the back and then have to make a rash challenge to try and right his wrong!
davulsukur Posted January 16, 2012 Posted January 16, 2012 It's replacing him tho BRFC4EVA, he is important at both ends of the field not just at the back.
perthblue02 Posted January 16, 2012 Posted January 16, 2012 I'm not at all sure he'll be off. The only redeeming feature I've noticed in our new owners is that they don't take well to insubordination Sam Allardyce, John Williams, Tom Finn, Martin Goodman ? not at the club anymore
Exiled in Toronto Posted January 16, 2012 Posted January 16, 2012 Sam Allardyce, John Williams, Tom Finn, Martin Goodman ? not at the club anymore I meant redeeming in these circumstances of Captain throwing a sickie
arbitro Posted January 16, 2012 Posted January 16, 2012 I for one will be glad to see the back of him. No more squeeling in August or January, no more new contracts offered due to said squeeling. No more lies about injury and illness. Good riddance.
Waggy76 Posted January 16, 2012 Posted January 16, 2012 I do not blame him one bit ..Ok he has a contract , but I have boycotted games as a ST holder this season. He was promised things like we all were last Jan ,he has realised what was promised were untruths..A silly tantrum on Friday I will agree with ... Would anyone on this site work for kean and Venkys ? I damn sure I wouldn't if I was a premier league footballer ..Hope he goes to PSG , but I think he will end up at Loftus Road ,they appear to have a proper manager and responsible owners ... I think we will be relegated with or without Samba , but we have to get rid of kean and Venkys to move forward ...Samba will be worth more now than in July , but cannot help thinking the money is going to Pune and Barclays ... Interesting thing on sky about Dann only signed if Samba wasn't going to be sold ..Watch this space ...NOTHING WOULD SURPRISE ME WITH OUR OWNERS..
dopper69 Posted January 16, 2012 Posted January 16, 2012 Yet again our *captain* has acted like a spoilt child and treated the club with utter contempt. It's times like this I wish that we as a club had the balls (and funds) to let him rot in the reserves for the next three years - lets see how many clubs would want him then!
Neal Posted January 16, 2012 Posted January 16, 2012 I'm immune to Samba's whinging now and I'm hardly bothered by it. Good player, at a club that's struggling, with a high value that no-one will pay.... Boring... Let's move on.
neophox Posted January 16, 2012 Posted January 16, 2012 Samba, you've signed a new contract , shut up and get on with.... Quite annoying..... Venkys stated that he was not for sale on official website..... It was Steve Kean who helped Hoilett, under Allardyce Hoilett was sent to germany.... Hoilett, time to sign a contract!!!

All the money will go to the bank if Rovers sell. Samba has been unhappy for ages, still played well. Let hin sulk, as long as he does his part on the pitch.
Backroom Tom Posted January 16, 2012 Backroom Posted January 16, 2012 I'd be tempted to tell him to do one, this isn't a new thing for him, every time he thinks he may have a way out he spouts off and then once he realises there isn't the interest he expected he crawls back,
RTM08 Posted January 16, 2012 Posted January 16, 2012 It was Steve Kean who helped Hoilett, under Allardyce Hoilett was sent to germany.... Hoilett, time to sign a contract!!! Allardyce got him over here. Before that Hoilett didn't have a work permit so couldn't play for us. Nothing to do with Big Sam.

Venkys stated that he was not for sale on official website..... It was Steve Kean who helped Hoilett, under Allardyce Hoilett was sent to germany.... Hoilett, time to sign a contract!!! Not quite true that ....I am sure Allardyce brought him back in his 1st full season .....Agree Hoillett as done better under Kean .. Would you sign a contract with Kean and Venkys reputation for telling untruths ????
roverandout Posted January 16, 2012 Posted January 16, 2012 let him go, been a great servant to the club, was here before those chicken dippers and coco so he has every right to feel disconent having seen how well the club was run before they got here, they should do the honourable thing and grant him his request then again did i say 'honourable' where our 'owners' and 'manager' are concerned?
bluebruce Posted January 16, 2012 Posted January 16, 2012 The honourable thing would be keeping him so they can try to fulfil their duty of care to the club for once. And BRFC4EVA, if you had to go back a couple years to remember samba costing us a game, that says everything.
donnermeat Posted January 16, 2012 Posted January 16, 2012 It's not him wanting to leave its the way he's gone about it. I'm sure he could have instructed his agent to find him a move and notify the club sensibly. Not go through the pantomime of txting in sick just because he hasn't got the b@lls to tell them face to face. It's not how you want your captain to act in any situation, let alone when your team is in major trouble. What a shame.
super_arran Posted January 16, 2012 Posted January 16, 2012 Samba- "In my five years at Blackburn I have always given 100percent....except on Saturday when I didn't fancy it *sniffle*”

And BRFC4EVA, if you had to go back a couple years to remember samba costing us a game, that says everything. That was the one which stuck out in my mind, there have been enough other examples to say that he his hardly infallible. Im not saying that we should sell him because of these occasional errors, but I cant see how we can expect to keep a player that seems that keen on going.
