Can't see anything to that effect anywhere Still waiting for EFL to confirm it as it may have gone through late ( he left training at around 2 and drove to euxton to talk and sign) so should have gone through

It is madness and could very quickly unravel and ultimately cost Mowbray his job. I don't think any of us are brimming with confidence, all of us wanted a good centre half BUT the stats show we were better off without Mulgrew points wise. We have 2 other players more capable than him to step in... Of course everyone would have preferred proven top 6 quality in there.
sharpysharps86 Posted August 9, 2019 Posted August 9, 2019 Something has clearly gone on behind the scenes with Mulgrew to Wigan coming from out of absolutely nowhere. If for whatever reason Wigan failed to beat the deadline and he stays with Rovers I don't think we'll be seeing him play for the club again. Sad end if that's the case. I loved Charlie in that league one season but since February he's been a walking defensive disaster. I would not be at all surprised if we bring in a free transfer CB in the coming weeks. Lynch seems most likely if he was in for talks. Providing that's backup and we give Tosin the gig alongside Lenihan then I'd be OK with that. On Tosin, if Pep rates him that's good enough for me. So he got mixed reviews at WBA, but it sounds like he was moved around a bit positionally, which never helps when bedding a player into the team. 3

I have no problem with Mulgrew going to Wigan except a replacement was not sourced ..Charlies best days are long gone ..!! Cunningham , I know little about but hopefully he is an upgrade on Bell , who isn't really up to championship standard. I think Mowbray was in panic mode after Saturday , why ?? He know the defence was poor said so himself in February ... I think Mowbray is now , walking on very thin ice ... I think even a win would have see the same outcome TM was playing the game of wait and get the man at better price

tomphil Posted August 9, 2019 Posted August 9, 2019 Whatever happens it all falls down to a chronic lack of planning again which is bizarre after the comments over the last 12 months regarding this position. Left to chance in favour of other areas and blind hope that suddenly certain players will overnight come good again despite massive evidence to the contrary and assuming others would be good enough or fit enough to cover. Pretty novice stuff for a pro set up. 2
Uddersfelt Blue Posted August 9, 2019 Posted August 9, 2019 Mulgrew may not have been our best defender but I don’t believe any fan should question his commitment to the Club. if he has gone then it’s clear that it is on the basis that he doesn’t want to be just a squad player. Nothing wrong with that. If Wigan are paying a chunk of his wage then it frees up money for his replacement. Only time will tell if we are better without Mulgrew or not but I for one will miss his superb free kicks. 3

The bloke who talks way too much is now saying he shouldn't have to answer every question... Well, I wish you f*cking wouldn't to be honest Tony because it's quite obvious you open your mouth without really thinking and tie yourself up in contradictions. Why use 50 words when 10 will do? 1
rigger Posted August 9, 2019 Posted August 9, 2019 This may be simplistic but who do you think has got the better deal ? Rovers have got Tosin on loan. Wigan have got Mulgrew on loan. Rovers by a country mile for me. 4
1864roverite Posted August 9, 2019 Posted August 9, 2019 What we need now is a conciliation within the club and no better way that going to Foolham tomorrow and winning the Game! I would like to see Lenihan captain the team for one. I would also like Rovers to go 3-4-1-2 tomorrow. Walton Lenihan Williams and Tosin Nyambe Johnson Travis Downing Dack Gallagher Brereton

As people have mentioned, we’ve made our bed here - maybe not exactly how we wanted it but a new GK, two new first team defenders and a couple of experienced heads higher up. The free agent list is still quite appealing. I wouldn’t be too surprised to see an older CB turn up should Charlie’s deal go through.

A lot of responsibility lies in Tosin this season and it seriously calls into question why Mowbray made this signing. Backed himself into a corner regarding team selection, paid a fee for a player on loan when Wigan are signing Pearce from Leeds for 200k!!! They haven't a fecking clue about the market or even about many players, who they are, their strengths, etc... That's obviously why they have a recruitment team. The best signing he's made is one that he saw with his own 2 eyes, Rothwell, Brereton was one he had no idea about that was suggested by the recruitment team. Lack of knowledge about the market and footballers in general is alarming. Also... Has Mulgrew even gone? Would have thought this would have been announced by now. Agreed. Our strategy seems at best reactive and at worst non-existent. But let’s be kind, the set up seems to be as follows: As manager, Mowbray leads the conclave manages the first team and identifies the areas to recruit (based on ‘his’ logic), he goes to Venus with his list and they agree targets, with Venus making the initial calls to other clubs/agents. Once they get a bite (or get bit) they hand over the commercial negotiations to Waggott and then they wait and hope that these discussions tip up a player for Lowe to train/get fit. This process doesn’t take into account the development players so they bring in Johnson to the team table. (Picture the scene in Moneyball... “Any kit in replacing me in the U23s manager position?” “Not now Damien!”) This gathering may or may not include the chief scout who probably takes July as a holiday. And all this results in us bringing in other teams’ cast offs! 1

Yes, evidence of what I said over a week ago. The management team know how important it is to get it right. They’ve raised the expectations of the owners and fans this season and are exposed. So expect more prickly interviews and cut throat decisions on players. Mulgrew is just the beginning..

Will contribute at least 5 or 6 goals per season Tosin - coming from the best team in the Prem. Highly regarded by their manager. Played for play off team last year. You would have to argue Mulgrew short term. However, from the inside we know Mulgrew can't defend and is injury prone! 1

There isn't really much other than Mulgrew losing his way to base that on yet, unlikely but he could have an Indian summer now whilst Tosin struggles. 1

In his interview on ifollow he says that he only got to the training centre at 16:30. Again, there are many reasons to criticise the club about the transfer window but I don’t think that’s one of them.

G Somerset Rover Posted August 9, 2019 Posted August 9, 2019 Are we really that limited wage wise that it took clearing Mulgrew out to allow Cunningham to come in? Horror show of a window for me purely as we’ve not properly strengthened our weakest area. 1
