Tyrone Shoelaces Posted yesterday at 08:34 Posted yesterday at 08:34 For me his biggest failing was always his decision making. He got too many wrong. Shooting when he should pass, passing when he should shoot. The spinning on the ball until he lost it etc. is it only me that thinks that aspect of his game has improved since Ismael arrived ? Quote

It's not as simple as plucking a figure out of the air as contracts are complex and can be onerous. With bonuses £15k could easily become £20k. No. I would put him as one of our highest wage earner unless he wont stay Quote
Backroom DE. Posted yesterday at 09:50 Backroom Posted yesterday at 09:50 Dolan is our second top goalscorer and assister, I think. Imagine he's there or thereabouts most seasons, as his stats are quite consistent. Certainly different to if we were losing someone like Hedges with 1 goal and 2 assists. Quote
jim mk2 Posted yesterday at 09:54 Posted yesterday at 09:54 There's alot of revisionism on Dolan here. He's a flawed player with an average scoring record and, like all players, is replaceable. I'd rather he stayed but won't be shedding any tears if he goes. 8 Quote
47er Posted yesterday at 10:01 Posted yesterday at 10:01 Contradict me if I'm wrong but is Dolan on the same money he was when Preston dumped him and we took him on? In other words having played 200 games for us he's still being paid the same as when he was a teenager we took a gamble on. In Jacks day contracts were routinely revised (upward!) to ensure loyalty, reward players doing well and to avoid them ever being out of contract. If Venkys had been in charge Shearer would have left for nothing! He started on £950,000 a year but finished on much more. We lost him but at least Newcastle had to pay a then record transfer fee for him. This lot have no idea how to run a football club. 1 Quote

Not quite He signed a contract with Rovers the summer of 2020 when Preston released him. - This would have been on well under £1K/week wages as he was a signing for the U21s at the time and another 6 months later after he had made several first team appearances for Rovers - which I would hazard a guess would have probably been in the region of an initial £4K - £5K/week But nothing since that point (February 2021) which is criminal seeing as he has been a regular first team squad member since arriving almost 5 years ago Edited yesterday at 10:58 by KentExile 4 Quote

Most of it by you Jim looking back through this thread...🙄 Dolan is a very good player at this level, letting him walk is a disgrace, but not unexpected by these abhorent owners. We need a steady squad, we need players that know each other and would run through brick walls for the team, its more than just about a players individual ability for me, although that is important of course. Transiant player recruitment isn't the answer for me. 3 Quote

Apparently since at least the summer of 2023, and by all accounts offered very similar terms to what he is already on Why would he commit to being tied down for longer on the same/very similar terms? When he could easily get more than double that elsewhere Edited yesterday at 11:26 by KentExile 3 Quote

Popular Post Mattyblue Posted yesterday at 13:52 Popular Post Posted yesterday at 13:52 No revisionism from me, a decent Championship player, like he has been for years. The only revisionism I can see is from those now tiptoeing away from their 'he's a League 1 player', 'he'll never play at this level again' statements. 10 Quote
Wheelton Blue Posted yesterday at 14:03 Posted yesterday at 14:03 On his day, he's decent. On his off days, he's poor. So yeah, an average Championship player. 1 Quote

We got lucky with him coming the way he did and turning out the way he did it's very very rare that happens these days. Not sure he's so easily replaceable in this climate at all, Poveda, Dewsbury, JRC, Clarkson etc there's a long line we've had/have not fit to lace his boots in terms of all round contribution. 8 Quote

Rovers stumbled upon him after his release from PNE. He has outperformed his initial expectations but his poor days are a greater number than his good days. It was the same last season, and the season before. Overall I agree with you; he's a stable Championship player. He's neither quick nor strong, and although he does have decent dribbling ability, as @Tyrone Shoelacespoints out his decision making is woefully sub-par. If he's on anywhere near the amount of money is has been discussed on here he'll be off to another Championship side this summer with a nice signing on fee and an improved wage packet. Him leaving won't cause many consternations other than with commentators who won't be able to extoll him as a "livewire" and "Rovers biggest attacking threat" anymore but invariably his replacement will be someone of lesser ability, probably brought in on a free. 1 Quote

Tugay Et Labore Posted 22 hours ago Posted 22 hours ago (edited) It looks like Cantwell has announced Dolan’s departure on Instagram… Edited 21 hours ago by Tugay Et Labore 1 Quote
Giant Posted 20 hours ago Posted 20 hours ago At least Cantwell is being honest in public about the situation, the board, the manager and the player himself are not forthcoming with the truth about the fact that he will be leaving. Just tell us what’s happening and we might have a bit more respect for you all. Quote

Why have they never considered selling the club, or even listening to offers? I have my theory on that one and would be surprised if they would really want anyone carrying out a deep dive into the financial mechanics of the business. The no smoke without fire analogy always comes to mind too and if the are being investigate on their own count by ED then, that tells me that there is plenty of smoke, blowing around. Rovers being a UK based entity and having the buffer of VLL between them and the Raos is the only reason the ED aren't trawling through the club's books. They've been up to some sort of financial fiddling from day one and I suspect that was a major incentive for them purchasing a UK football club in the first place. Deliberately relegated the club as soon as they showed up and have deliberately avoided and sabotaged promotion ever since. They shit themselves when we went down to League One as the spotlight was back on them and the finances weren't enough to do whatever it is they've been doing, hence the spending spree when we came back up to ensure that wouldn't happen again. Since the investigation has started we've seen a change in the way they operate. No more lengthy lucrative contracts for has been players. Instead there's numerous short term deals and aggressive cost cutting. Whatever they've been up to has been rumbled and they're scared shitless. No smoke without fire. Made me laugh when I saw Dolan's response. Must think we are all thick, of course that's what the original post meant, Dolan practically said goodbye to Ewood on Saturday in the same way Szmodics did after the opening game of the season. No chance he's here next season. 1 Quote

CaptainBeanfart Posted 7 hours ago Posted 7 hours ago I'll be gutted if he leaves, he'll be hard to replace. He's got flaws but we have found it incredibly hard to recruit for the attacking midfield positions. We really need Cantwell to step up next season. Quote
