Tyrone Shoelaces Posted 10 hours ago Author Posted 10 hours ago I wonder if we’ll see yesterday’s tactic of playing a very high line and therefore forcing you to play most of the game in your own half will come into the men’s game ? There were long periods of play were Spain had all 10 outfield players in our half. Quote

Trinidad Rover Posted 8 hours ago Posted 8 hours ago I read the following and doesn't it just sum up what a short sighted and miserable call it was to essentially defund the women's team. There had to be another solution to keeping the team professional, despite the challenges. A really poor look for Rovers as a club and its reputation. 'Georgia Stanway, Keira Walsh, and Ella Toone were all once on the books of Blackburn Rovers, and all three started the match' 1 Quote
Backroom Tom Posted 7 hours ago Backroom Posted 7 hours ago And now the club have put themselves in a situation where they can’t really go out and congratulate them on their socials as the response would be justified! 4 Quote

I bet they've been asked to by the hierarchy and the Social Media Manager has just gone "yeah, no, it's not worth the grief". 2 Quote
47er Posted 6 hours ago Posted 6 hours ago On the actual game, apart from the penalties I thought we didn't turn up. It was so one-sided but Spain were woeful in the final third where it matters. Missed at least 6 good chances while we didn't create much at all. Looks as if we did more work on penalties than other team and just as well! All the drama came from the penalty shoot-out, the match itself was not a good advert for women's football. TBF, that's true of men's finals too on occasion. Quote

TBF, that's true of men's finals too on occasion. And yet their GK made the two best saves of the night (from Russo and Hemp). It was simply a clash of styles - the Spanish possession style makes it seem they're in control of the game, but they didn't really carve out many chances. Nor could they handle our pace and directness - their CBs resorted to blatantly obstructing Agyemang (which the ref completely ignored) whenever we tried to counter attack. Quite frankly it's an awful brand of football - made worse by their playacting when you try to challenge them. Completely breaks up the flow of the game, especially when the ref buys every single one. Edited 6 hours ago by Exiled_Rover 2 Quote
47er Posted 5 hours ago Posted 5 hours ago They looked more comfortable on the ball and they created way more chances. If they could only finish we would have lost comfortably. Anyway that's my view. 2 Quote

Every player was good on the ball, they could all pass off either side under pressure, they found spaces better than we did. It was when they got into our penalty area that they lacked ideas. 8 games out of 10 they would possibly beat us. Yesterdays game was one of the 2 were they couldn’t. 1 Quote

They don’t do the diving in fouls like we do but they do the holding back breaking players type fouls all the time. I thought two of the Spanish players should have been booked. It looks like you can’t just win the ball now. If you win the ball and touch the other player in any way afterwards - it’s a foul. 2 Quote

Even Kargbo would be lethal in that scenario. Quote

joey_big_nose Posted 2 hours ago Posted 2 hours ago I know commenting on changes in the women's game can be construed as condescending but I only mention it as it is so remarkable... the quality is improving at a exponential rate. If anyone watched that game yesterday and compared it to the last three euros finals the difference every four years is massive. The Spanish team's technique and short passing was very very good. The keeping has come on hugely. Both scoring headers were technically excellent. Really impressed. And England well done! Really competitive and great penalties. 2 Quote
