Markanday signed for Chesterfield last night

I still maintain that Rovers should have triggered his year option.Β  Not that I think he was a huge asset to the paying squad, but even if they had still allowed him to move on a free transfer this summer they could have inserted a fairly high sell on fee.Β

It was always obvious that he would end up at Chesterfield (or similar) this summer, so Rovers may as well have potentially made something in the future on the deal.Β  Β If he has a full season like his initial loan at Chesterfield then his transfer fee in a years time would be useful to any normal club (where income affects expenditure) in Rovers position

Another miscalculation by those in charge of the purse strings

Considering the club are always crying poverty, it is a bit strange we haven't tried to scrape some money out of this situation either now or in the future.

I doubt any league 2 team would have paid any transfers fees, so your idea seems like a no brainer almost.

Unless we've gone all noble and "done the right thing by the player", which is at odds with how the club operate on day to day basis.

The wages to trigger his contract year are probably higher than any transfer fee we could have got for him. He's really not very good.

Couldn't help but notice that Pears is conspicuously missing from all the new GK kit marketing. Their latest X post even features one of the younger goalies (Michalski I think) alongside Toth.

Couple that with Toth being touted as next season's #1... pretty much confirms that Pears will be sold this window!

Should be a cool little Β£1m-2m in the transfer kitty Venky's pockets.

Nobody is paying Β£2m for Pears.

6 Figures I would think.

No chance, could easily get over Β£1m from a Championship Club for him.

Then if Man Utd (or any other PL Club) still want him as their 4th choice, double it.

He's usually missing when the opposition have a shot at our goal, tbf.

As disastrous as Pears has been, his stats always showed quite high compared to other keepers, mainly on last season though...Season before he was just terrible.Β

We will get over a million for him I'd say.Β

Rovers are still paying his existing contract, and will be doing so until the end of the month, when his contract expires and he moves to Chesterfield completes

That was John Butcher for the old timers.

Not many modern keepers confident with crosses these days.

Aye, John the Flapper Butcher liked his ale too much, and was often seen staggering along Livesey Branch road after a session at Charlies Disco.. πŸ˜‰

I think it’s likely to be Pears and Travis to be flogged, Tonstadt and Brittain to stay. Imagine they can’t wait to get Travis’ salary off the books and I reckon Pears will be on a decent whack as well. He came in from Boro under Mowbray

Well one of those 2 is no loss at all but the other is a crucial loss. Any team needs heart not just ability. Travis has it.

I remember Butch very well.

Obviously an admission that we are old timers.Β  Β πŸ™‚Β

Hee Hee Chaplin's inside the Oak Tree which is now a Tesco Express. There's a blast from the past.

Not all things change for the better sadly.

Definitely the silly season ...

Leeds United midfielder, Ao Tanaka thought to be of interest to a number of championship clubs. Leeds want at least Β£8m for the versatile oriental. Blackburn Rovers most keen, but are only willing to do a swap deal.

Think there are a few of us who remember Butcher!

When Paul Bradshaw left for Wolves I remember Butcher's girl friend telling me at the time 'John will be better than Paul and go on to play for England'!Β  Think my response was simply 'let's wait and see'!

By the same logic, Travis and Brittain won't be sold in this window as they're in the marketing. Yet most would not be surprised if at least one of them is gone by September.Β

I don't think "Bionic" Bradshaw achieved the heights expected of him either. Died last year, only 67

Eiran Cashin is leaving Brighton on loan apparently.

Left footed centre back who they bought from Derby 6 months ago.

With our relationship with Brighton, and it being a position that we need I could see us going for him.

Also kicks the can down the road for a permanent signing back there which they love to do.

We'll have to swap half our squad
