  1. I remember it being 1 signing after 100 pages last summer. We have broken the old record. Well done chaps, or should I say Chaddy, Mani, roversfan99, JoeH and Richard Oakley. You've been fantastic sports.

  8. Surely the time has come to give Wharton the opportunity. You only have to look at what Ben White managed in his first season in the championship after loans in the leagues below. There’s no way Brighton would have been knocking back bids of £25m for him before he’d done a season with Leeds. What’s not to say that Wharton could form a partnership with Lenihan. I feel his loan last season was at a league lower than is should have been but that was our mistake. He’d already won promotion from league 2 so should have been rewarded with a league 1 loan to test him at a better level. However he got promoted again from league 2 so couldn’t really do much more. It’s time to either start him or risk losing him like we did with Jack O’Connell.

  9. You talk with a lot of certainty about things, and clearly a Mowbray fan. Do you work for the club? Chapman was a Mowbray pick. Loaned him in and tried to sign him on deadline day then failed and still went back in for him later - when we didn’t really need him. He has dug him out ever since. There are certain players who can do no right and get no credit from Mowbray (Nuttall and Tomlinson being two others). He brings them into the first team and drops them like stones if they make mistakes - even if they are in goal scoring form (like Nuttall was before he was dropped for Samuel). The player’s attitude changes when they realise nothing they do will be good enough for him. Then fans blame them! Mahoney left because of Coyle but he would have been treated similarly. Always young players. Meanwhile older players who don’t perform get a free pass - Bennett, Mulgrew (for a good while). Dolan is going to have to be a worldie every game to get his chance. That’s if he can learn to ‘play the Mowbray way’. Not looking forward to Dolan having the excitement beaten out of him (as has happened with Travis). And all because we don’t buy quality defenders! Much easier to blame young players for not tracking back.

  12. You don't though. If you scrolled past his posts every time you wouldn't be reading them, and we wouldn't all see you have loads of massive exchanges with him, every day, about virtually the same things. There's no point telling us that you scroll past his posts when we can all see for an absolute fact that you don't. If you two find each other's views so objectionable, and don't like having the same circular arguments every day, please, for the sake of the rest of us, put each other on ignore or at least stop quoting each other. Edit - as much as you do both contribute to the board in general, that is.

  13. Good news and a relief to get this deal done. Should be getting another 2-3 first XI players in quickly now to address the defence. Not sure how him going down to Brockhall having his photos taken fits with 2 weeks of isolation and quarantine.

  15. Happy for Williams to go regardless because even at the moment I would play Wharton over him but obviously we are assuming that we can get a couple in which selling Williams may help to facilitate.

  18. Not convinced Kaminski is someone we have been chasing really - might have been on a list somewhere but he was bought for 2 mil a season and a half ago. Think him being transfer listed at a cheap price after his cock-kicking exploits sort of fell into our laps at the right time.

  24. I dont think Williams to Swansea is that odd at all. He's a good age, experienced at this level, played for Ireland and I suspect Mowbray would drive him to Swansea if it meant getting his wages off the books. He's not great by any stretch but reasonable cover for defence and won't cost much. It seems clear to me that him and Mulgrew are the make weights to enable a couple of defenders to come in. Its also obvious that something has been amiss with him since January with his mysterious injury.

  25. I saw more tweets from Gent fans surprised he was going for such a low fee and with good things to say. Naturally people will be bitter when players leave but ultimately only thing that matters to me is how he plays for us

  26. Sometimes a change in enviroment/new club could change that. He could not have been that bad if he played almost 60 games for Gent.

  29. When charged with overspending Derby immediately disputed it, employed a leading barrister in Nick de Marco QC and challenged it all the way. Having succeeded in that challenge they are now considering pursuing damages and compensation for lost income and sponsorship against the League. Can you imagine Waggott and Rovers standing up and fighting like that? I doubt we'd ever challenge anything, instead just accepting whatever gets decided with a shrug of the shoulders.

  30. It amazes me that anyone is remotely concerned about these rules anymore. In this climate they cannot be enforced. Even those clubs who have broken the rules previously haven't been punished. Birmingham got a meaningless points deduction, Derby got off Scott free and Wednesday are being punished for fiddling on their accounts, not overspending. The attitude seems to be that it is fine for Derby to break the rules and spend more than everyone else using every trick in the book but yet we are meant to be well behaved and worry about overspending whilst we've a fraction of Derby's overheads. All suits Venkys though.

  31. Is he any good? I don't know anything about him at all. Still, I'm all for midfielders if it keeps Johnson & Evans away from the starting 11. We have to be moving past them two if we want to progress.

  32. Give us a couple hundred grand and take his wages off us. That’s fine, if we got a million pounds for Derrick Williams I would take back everything I’ve ever said about Mowbray ?

  36. To be honest it seems pretty clear to me. Away weekend matches can't be offered as part of the season ticket package, but above that it says that any match not shown on Sky can be purchased for £10. So streaming for all home matches & mid week away matches will be included in your season ticket price, away weekend matches available at £10 per game.

  38. We've not lost anyone worth keeping IMO. Downing possibly but if it's a financial choice then a CB is massively more important than 'Stewy'. Signing a GK, A CB and a LB is the absolute minimum we can get away with this summer. In an ideal world we'd sign two of each, get rid of Bell, Mulgrew and Williams and send the young CB's (except Wharton) and one or two of young GK's out on loan.

  39. The problem is that the lower the price goes the more clubs will be interested. If the asking price does go down to six-figures then I would imagine there will be strong interest from a number of teams, some of which are likely to be able to provide better offers than us in terms of his contract. Obviously in an ideal world you'd get the lad for as cheap as possible, but I don't think leaving it to the wire is going to benefit us.

  41. I think Kipre is an upgrade on Tosin defensively. He hadn’t got Tosins ability on the ball but from what I saw he’s a better defender than Lenihan.

  44. I criticise Mowbray plenty but I just dont understand this assertion that Travis has "had the excitement beaten out of him." He broke through and Mowbray has never had him as anything other than a first team regular since, despite predictions to the contrary from many including myself, and he is very much an all action midfielder (not one who is particularly restricted either, indeed Evans is usually more disciplined than him) who is progressing nicely.

  46. I watched the majority of the friendly yesterday and I continue to be impressed by the high quality of youngsters coming through the ranks. This is certainly a golden era for us in terms of young talent coming through. Dolan is ready for first team action, no doubt about that. From the glimpses I've seen of Brennan, he looks like he's going to be a class act. His touch is excellent. JRC has a great engine and desire for the game. He'll become a fans favourite I reckon. You can see Buckley is very technically gifted but he's too physically weak at the moment to use his talents to the max. Wharton looked strong and good in the air but I feel like he lacks mobility and can be too easily turned over. He'll be a good defender but he'll need to read the game very well as I don't think he'll have the pace to recover from mistakes. Brereton is starting to look the part. He's slowly becoming someone you think he'll make something happen when he gets the ball rather than someone who will try something and immediately lose it or be outmuscled. Although we've played two poor teams and we've got signings to come (hopefully!), the signs are that we'll score goals but also concede lots of goals (as per) as it stands. Blackpool bypassed our midfield with relative ease and were able to run at our back 4. They didn't have the quality to expose those holes but many teams in the Championship will.

  47. That’s it, I don’t think Hart, Smallwood and Samuel do need replacing. The young lads can do that. Davenport is a ready made replacement for Downing and we spent a lot of money on two lads bought to replace Danny Graham who need to have the chance to do this. The only positions imo which have opened up because of the losses are Gk and cb. Which in fairness, we appear to be on the way to sorting.

  48. I'm quite excited by the potential emergence of various young players like Brereton, Pike, Wharton, (Chapman?) and Dolan. The Covid crisis might be the best thing that's happened to us if it forces us to rely on youth. I just hope Tony doesn't cite the need for "experience" and bring in a few one last payday merchants on loan to block the youngsters' progression.
