  1. I was mortified to give the wrong answer to Q19 to a lot of posters! When I was verifying Tugay as the oldest since the War the website mentioned Karim Rekik as our youngest player. It was only when Renrag mentioned Ronnie Clayton that the penny dropped! He was 16 when he made his debut in 1951. I’m ashamed not to have checked my sources? Anyway well done to Oldjamfan and had.e.nuff who were joint winners with 32/36!

  5. Tottenham were getting a lot of flak last week. However, the reason Liverpool get more grief is their previous tone of moral superiority and sanctimony... ‘we are Liverpool, this means more’, ‘a club steeped in the Socialist ethos of Bill Shankly and our city’ and on it goes. They’ve been outed as greedy hypocrites no different than any other big football club.

  6. Don't think they deserve any credit for it whatsoever. They thought they'd see if they could get away with it and were forced into backtracking because of the backlash.

  7. They have been embarrassed into reversing the decision and their statement is quite pathetic. Hopefully the mud will stick for some time.

  8. What I wouldn't give for a Zurab now, quietly classy, competent when called upon, versatile and never made a fuss about being behind the likes of Nelsen in the pecking order. Proper squad player in the best possible way. God I miss the days when we could afford to have really safe back up players just sat on the bench, the kind where if we got an injury to one of our key players we would just think 'that sucks, but at least we've got this guy so it's not the end of the world'. Its one of the big indications of how far we've fallen that gets a bit overlooked imo.

  9. Probably like many of us at the moment I’ve been doing a fair bit of reading. I’ve got a pretty good collection of Rovers books and I’ve rediscovered some long forgotten facts about our great club! So I’ve compiled a quiz of 20 questions about the Rovers which I would like to share. If you, like me, love quizzing then I hope it might help provide a much needed distraction and some enjoyment in these difficult days There are 20 questions but the total score is 36. If you want to PM me your answers then I’m more than happy to give you your score! Q1. Rovers didn’t have one of these for the first 46 years but have had one every year since then, What is it? Q2. Which player was sold to become our record transfer fee received? Q3. In the 1960’s Rovers were asked to represent England in an international competition. Where was it held? Q4. Which player has made the most appearances for the club? Q5. Which player has scored the most goals in a Rovers shirt? Q6. Rovers have been beaten twice by the same team in our Charity Shield history. Who was it? Q7. In which Blackburn street was Jack Walker born? Q8. In our great Prem Title season which was the only team to do the double over us? Q9. Besides Ewood, Rovers have played at 4 other venues across town. Can you name them? Q10. Our FA Cup tie against Charlton in 1947 at the Valley was unique for what reason? Q11. Who were Rovers first shirt sponsors? Q12. Who was our first £1m player signing? Q13. During Roy Hodgson’s reign as manager we had 3 goalkeepers whose surname began with the letter F. Who were they? Q14. Which manager signed Matt Jansen and from which club? Q15. Jorge Gonzalez Dias played for us in which Cup Final? Q16. Dino Baggio made his Rovers debut at which current League Two ground? Q17. Who were Tony Mowbray’s first opponents as Rovers manager? Q18. Mark Hughes took us to 2 semifinals during his time as manager. Who beat us on each occasion? Q19. Who are the youngest and oldest players to play for Rovers since WW2? Q20. Can you name the 9 managers who have served under the Venkys? Well done for getting this far! As I said if you want to PM me with your answers I’m happy to give you your score. I’ve got plenty of time on my hands!

  10. Quick wiki shows him resuming his career with other clubs after the first world war. Died aged 53 in 1947. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Harry_Dennison Great quiz by the way.

  15. I remember watching the 2018 bid ceremony live and being very annoyed. It looked like a fit up then, and so has been proven. This New York Times article also covers it as well as naming 3 FIFA execs charged with accepting bribes. 2 are dead, and one is safe in Brazil as they have no extradition treaty with the USA (do they have one with anybody?). FIFA execs charged too It also says that Jack Warner is still fighting his extradition to the USA from T&T. I'm pretty sure that if the US government wanted to they could put the screws to the T&T authorities and get Warner. I hope that they get him as he rode roughshod over a lot of people. It was amazing that a person from such a small place had so much power. Did the 1 country 1 vote system at FIFA ever get changed? I know that it evokes lots of emotion, and shades of colonialism from the bigger world economies but it is one way to make the system fairer.

  17. Basically been embarrassed into a U turn mainly by their own ex players the normally Liverpool loving media and a lot of their fanbase. Fair play on finally seeing sense but credit for it ? No chance it wasn't their favoured method they tried it on and would've gone with it if they could.

  21. Without wanting to take this off topic too much, footballers should definitely agree to a pay cut whilst not playing, but.... The 3,500 highest paid footballers in the UK earn £2.9bn per year collectively. The 3,500 highest paid bankers in the UK earn £8.75bn per year collectively. Still not seeing the same outrage for the bankers.

  22. There seems to be a slight groundswell of support building up for the Premier League players on the basis they're being singled out by the politicians etc but I think most people are missing the point. Everyone is making the mistake of putting all PL Clubs in the same bracket. The "big 6" are undoubtedly highly profitable but for the rest, most of the Club's income goes straight into the players pockets. When we were in the PL wages formed 85 - 90% of our turnover so PL players should be taking a wage cut without even batting an eyelid, not to save the Country or the NHS but first and foremost to guarantee the future of their own Clubs and the non playing staff that work there. Then hopefully money can also find its may down to the lower divisions as well to avoid mass insolvencies. The PL Clubs also have the threat of the TV Companies asking for about £35 m each back off them. Not fatal for the big 6 but could be crucial for the rest. All this crap from the PL and PFA about Clubs"unanimously" agreeing to discuss with the players about the possibility of "conditional" wage cuts and "deferrals" plays out terribly when ordinary people on a few hundred quid a week have to take a 20% pay cut no questions asked. Maybe Taylor should sell a few of the PFA's Lowry's to help out. On the other hand its ludicrous that Clubs like Liverpool and Spurs are taking advantage of the furlough scheme so quickly just because it is there. An absolute disgrace all round. (Apologies if wrong thread. Just seen other one)

  23. One of the biggest “what might have been’s” in my lifetime. I still blame Eriksson. Shafted our club twice that bloke. Tord Gripp might have been in his ear but the buck stopped with him.

  27. A few days back I was reminded that Souness briefly used Jonathon Douglas in the team when we were struggling at the tail end of his tenure, Douglas even scored in that 4-3 win against Fulham that Stead clinched. Must be rare for one of our own products to have taken a place in central midfield, in the Premiership no less, only to completely go off the radar in just a season's time. Then there's Dunny... Had a decent career as a whole, but he looked so damn good in the promotion season and first season in the PL before getting on the wrong side of Souness and all the injuries.
