I saw an article on the website saying they'll no longer be broadcasting home games, does this mean 1404 on AM will no longer be on? Enjoy listening to that on the drive home! :o

I'm sure they could have downgraded the radio station a bit without completely scrapping it. One commentator is enough and they are shooting themselves in the foot a bit seeing as it was the clubs biggest propaganda machine in recent times.

How much is the license to broadcast ?  Probably less than servicing and cleaning one vehicle of the fat mans car collection

Also saw on that article that council owned car parks around Ewood won't be open this season.

The whole operation seems to be downsizing rapidly. To be expected, I suppose, but sad all the same.

I didn't realise there was any around Ewood? Can only think of next to the travellers site, is that council owned?

I guess this is the result of the accountants forensic cost cutting. Instead of coming up with ides to commercialise & pay for itself they've scrapped it.

A great shame for all those fans in Blackburn that can't get to home games for whatever reason & for visually impaired fans in the ground.

Anyone know how much the licence was ?

The car parks around the campsite including the one opposite the Empire Theatre and the one opposite the Fox and Hounds are all council owned. The club collected money from fans and sent it to the council to operate them on matchday with the council employing the stewards etc.

A major health hazard with all sorts of potholes, glass, waste dumped yet the council allow it to remain so.

My understanding was that media services were 'outsourced' to a company which operated everything for the club. I think that bloke Neil Yardley was the one behind it (Creatv).

http://www.creatv.co.uk/broadcast/

I expect this arrangement won't come cheap and attempts to save money on that front might ne the reason behind it stopping.

The cost of running a radio station for a few hours on a matchday might not be so much but the cost of outsourcing all media duties to a 3rd party will cost. Clearly no-one at the club is capable of sorting out themselves.

Another legacy of our Premier League days which was always going to end eventually whilst in the 2nd and 3rd tiers.

RR was poor fare in any case and wont be missed. It wasn't for the fans, didn't involve the fans and the producers/hosts blatantly refused to air any negative views given by fans whilst the host spent more time trying to find positives in poor performances instead of saying it how it really was. Despite many requests to change the bloody awful music, pump up the volume and try and create an effort to improve the atmosphere they again declined to take the fans advices or requests into consideration.

On another note, all MW and HF frequencies are being switched off very soon so it would not have been long coming any way.

So the first thing they do is dump it instead of looking at other ways of maybe operating it and financing it, pathetic but typical of the pass the buck culture at Ewood. Likes of Cheston & co hiding behind the audit on one hand and the owners on the other, not our fault gov just doing as we are told.

Surely they could have sought a sponsor for it or something along those lines all this oh it's ok get on ifollow or stream or whatever is just typical of the clueless thinking down there, clubs now aimed at the few not the many. Many across Blackburn & Darwen won't have the option of anything internet based particularly the older generation but the attitude is if you can't pay for what's on offer screw you.

Community club ?

I thought Neil Yardley was very good, passionate about the club and considering it was an in house station he could be critical.

I don't doubt his passion but when it came to hard hitting and searching questions of managers I thought he was very weak. Too many managers got off lightly in my opinion.

Don't disagree with that, used to tear my hair out with Coyle and Kean, but generally thought he was a decent broadcaster, hope he gets a gig somewhere.

25 years of the first football club radio station and it's gone with a days notice.

How was it announced? As a bulletpoint on a website article next to the Blues Bar opening hours and a reminder that a load of car parks have been closed, no warning given to visually impaired fans either.

Poor do.

I used to play football with Neil, nice guy and a Rovers man. It is his dad Alan who owns Creatv and they were in charge of RR and the camera footage etc. Shame, although the fence they sat on is the width of the Great Wall of China, it is yet another loss and downgrading of what Jack made the best town team in the country.

Apparently the supporters who used the in ground service received a phone call yesterday, stating the club are looking for an alternative method.

If that is the case, to me that is poor form , those people have purchased season tickets with a view that a vital service to aid their match day experience will still be available and no replacement is in place? Looks like another Chancer decision no doubt will be explained with a thrilling powerpoint presentation.

Just wonder if the RR commentary is being transferred to the ifollow subscription (UK version)

I don't know much about any of this so don't want to pre-judge BUT...

I can handle us selling players, and even the relegations, but it's this shyte that really puts me off the club.

Mowbray was talking the other day about how pre-season was organised like a pre-season at a Prem Club, a no expense spared training camp etc, yet when it comes to things that the fans really value, like a bit of commentary for visually impaired fans, money suddenly becomes an issue. If true it's disgusting. Those fans deserve a lot more respect than that.

Yes. It all seems a bit "shabby" (in the Terry Thomas sense) It smells of people, who have never owned the ethos of a small town club, steeped in tradition and who don't give a *** about Blackburn Rovers.

I am sure Jack would have sacked the lot of them.

Then there is someone like TM, who does seem to be a decent bloke.

Is radio Rovers done or just not broadcasting on am/fm?

i listened to the Coventry game and Neil was down my the commentary on his own but still there

whilst the interviews questions were generally rubbish, lots of leading questions that almost answered themselves, I have a soft spot for Neil's commentary, generally for a club's radio and the restrictions that would naturally put on it (especially under venkys) I thought it was good. Maybe a bit biased and occasionally frustrating but I'd be disappointed if he was replaced, I've been listening for years and years due to being abroad.  Ed, on the other hand, talks a fair bit of rubbish and sees everything blue and white specs, I'd be genuinely surprised if he got paid as he just seemed like an intern or Neil's mate

Master stroke by the club really. Every criticism of what they now do (or don't do) is tempered by "well, at least we have Mowbray". Wouldn't be surprised if this was the original intent when Kean was brought in: "a nice man that everyone could get behind". Looking at things objectively we still have yet to turn any kind of corner and stop the downward trajectory. Downsizing is a symptom of that decline. Of course, this is now met with a shrug because "a League One team can't afford such luxuries" but it's exactly the reason that many fought against what the were doing for so many years - despite all of the criticism from fellow fans. We reap what we sow - and majority rules with this sort of thing. The majority didn't really care back then that this is where we were headed - or were in denial. Many still think we haven't bottomed yet and still there are folk who go on about negative fans. Case in point...

Very poor that Radio Rovers has gone.

Considering your views this last four years or so, that's a shameless statement. What is very poor is that not enough did the bare minimum to at least try to put pressure on the club to avoid us reaching this point, when there was still a spotlight on Rovers.

Nobody outside of Blackburn now cares about anything that happens here. We are just another League One club.

Think he was pretty clueless really.

His views on Reading when they played down here were embarrassing.  They reached the play off final!  Very disparaging about Barnsley as well prior to us going there.

Dont start lecturing me Stuart. You have zero rights to tell me anything.

Put pressure on who? The owners are in India and cant be touch over there.

The media dont give a toss about us.

You have been part of the protest and nothing has changed after 6 years of them. The Government, FA, PL and FL have held meetings with you and they done nothing as no rules have been broken.
