Wonder if get some money if Dann is sold to Everton? There was rumours about £15M transfer (silly silly money). Palace will confirm Tomkins soon so they have a replacement.

If it's as much as that we would be due a couple of million of it.

Dwight Tiendalli on trial with Birmingham. We should be all over that. Nobody deserves to live in Birmingham and he'd go straight into our team.

From Vital football Wigan site

The news on the street on the hold up on the return of Jordi Gomez to the Latics is that dastardly scoundrel, ex Latics boss and now Blackburn boss, Owen Coyle has jumped in with an interest - and a monetary bid - to take Gomez to Ewood Park.

Surprising really when you consider that Gomez wasn't exactly Coyle's flavour of the month whilst he was our manager, he started Gomez a miserly 7 times in the Championship and used him another three times as a substitute, Coyle once referred to Gomez as a luxury player that you can do without.

Of course Gomes spent a very successful loan spell at Blackburn at the end of last season, Paul Lambert was in charge then and perhaps utilised him appropriately. Sunderland were all for releasing Gomez from his final year of contract at the Stadium of Light, but this new twist has apparently thrown a spanner into the works, Gomez wants to come to the Latics, the Latics want Gomez but we appear to have Owen 'Dick Dastardly' Coyle complicating matters.

We can probably file that in the same folder as supposed interest in Nick Powell and the host of other supposed targets that we've been linked with this summer.

If Wigan want him then they will outbid Rovers. The theory that we've got money lying around to make a monetary bid for any player falls down straight away. Spending cash on players was never on the agenda. It wasn't last summer, or in January, or this summer. That's why Lambert walked and Coyle got the job.

The interesting part will be how they dress it up. Venky's henchmen have used FFP as an excuse for the last 3 years but that is starting to wear thin after so many other clubs have breached the limits without consequence.

Gomez doesn't deserve to wear the blue 'n' white halves again. He looked like he was breathing mogadon at times last season. Maybe he wasn't match fit. He certainly wasn't much interested.

Good business so far this summer, with the possible exception of Feeney... but even he sounds like Finney, which isn't bad for a winger.

Hopefully any business now is for young players who can increase in value. Signing players at the arse-ish-end of their careers, but only getting young lads in on loan, isn't sustainable.

Jose Mourinho in his press conference today

Especially the ones with more vision. I am more a manager that likes specialists and not so much the multi-functional players because I am very clear in my approach. Multi-functional players are like one or two, when you are in trouble you need someone who can fill but basically I want specialists.

I dont want to get into this Lowe at RB stuff again, but there Jose said it. We need a RB, go and bloody sign a proper RB. Left back, sign a proper one.

We'd probably owe a large chunk of it to Brum.

We are not going to be all over anything that costs money. You've got your one big signing in Graham. Now behave yourself.

He's on a free..? Free's aern't free, but we should be able to afford a 30 year old right back... right?

If we pay money for that guy then I'm sorry but my conspiracy sense will be on full alert again. That would be a terrible waste of cash but it would be no surprise to see that kind of thing happening again if we have some to spend now the old crew seem back in full control.

I honestly think whether we sign a right-back will depend on whether Marshall leaves. Marshall, Lowe, Henley, Nyambe. Imagine it's not a priority (though it should be).

I agree with what Jose is saying, specialists in a position are the key to success, not chopping and moving people about. However, when it comes to Lowe, RB is arguably his best position. Players can and have been retrained to other positions with great success, but it depends on whether the attributes of said player are suited to the role.

Northern Irish striker Magennis was a goalkeeper up until he was 18!

Freyers from palace linked to us. He'd be a good choice at LB.

I'd also take Gomez back. He is lazy at times but he also has that little bit of quality to win you a game. Don't think Coyle is a big fan of him though so I'd be surprised if there's any truth in it.

A friend of mine who supports Palace rates this guy but did point out that he spends an awful lot of time on the treatment table.

Fryers signed for Palace in 2014 on a THREE year deal... Meaning, if he signed for us on loan he'd be a free agent next summer.

Yes, you'd hope the club are playing the long game on these loan deals for the young lads from the Prem. Get em in and then hope they will sign permanently once their parent club no longer need them/contracts are up. Graham was obviously impressed enough with the set-up to want to come back, regardless of the manager.

Google his name and a lot of articles about questionable behaviour seem to pop up. If this does come off then fingers crossed he comes with a point to prove.

I think you're over thinking it blueboy, we have no 'long game' how can we with no continuity, staff retention etc?

The squads been destroyed over recent years, lacking in numbers and quality, so getting anyone in is a bonus, we need to have a side to take the pitch come August.
