2024/25 Season Tickets

Thinking about season tickets for next season and the tough sell to the fans that 2024/25 will bring (no matter which division) got me thinking about Rovers' poor home record this campaign.

I also felt as though we've not scored too many at the Blackburn End this season, so looked into it further and we've scored 13 goals in front of our end! And only four Blackburn End goals in the 10 home games in 2024.

Rovers (League) Goals in front of the Blackburn End in 2023/24

1. 19/8/23 - Hull City - Gallagher goal to give Rovers the lead (lost 1-2)

2. 21/10/23 - Cardiff City - Rankin-Costello goal to give Rovers the lead (won 1-0)

3. 10/11/23 - Preston North End - Szmodics equalizer (lost 1-2)

4,5,6,7. 29/11/23 - Birmingham - Szmodics double, Hill and Leonard (won 4-2)

8. 12/12/23 - Bristol City - Scott Wharton header to give Rovers two goal lead (won 2-1)

9. 23/12/23 - Watford - Adam Wharton goal to give Rovers the lead (lost 1-2)

10. 1/1/24 - Rotherham - Szmodics goal to give Rovers the lead (drew 2-2)

11. 3/2/24 - QPR - Gallagher goal to make it 1-2 (lost 1-2)

12. 24/2/24 - Norwich - Hyam goal to equalise (drew 1-1)

13. 5/3/24 - Millwall - Szmodics goal to equalise (drew 1-1)

Largely because we are usually terrible after a promising first twenty minutes or so (in front of the Darwen End usually) and cannot get back into games after going a goal down.

Weak, weak, weak.

Yep the Weds fans only really influenced their side once they'd been gifted two goals again down that end, one a counter and piss poor defending again and one the howler of the century.

Not much action at all in front of the home end until Markandy came on apart from Sammie missing one he should have scored.

'But why are you not cheering'....

It's astonishing that man gets no criticism outside of this messageboard considering it's the same shocking output every year. We are always the last out of every Lancashire club to get them on sale.

We continue the Waggot Venky express train to be the new Crewe of League 1.

Income targets reduced and easier to hit.

Wage budget and matchday expense reduced and easier to manage with less from India.

Academy downgrade and merged with first team on one site - cheaper and easier to manage.

Pathway to first team squad easier for more players.

Less big money sales but more quicker cheaper ones with add ons to Championship clubs.

Ta ta DoF in cost saving measure but CEO and Shadow remain in well paid part time work running it all.

As well as the story there are some good ideas and similar points of view in the comments to this as there is on here.

I really hope Waggot has got the general mood of supporters leading into him releasing the prices as will go down like a lead balloon unless its a massive reduction and promises of investment in the match day experience.

Reading the lad's comment who is working 2 jobs. He struggles to get to games which have been moved for tv, because of shift work.

Don't know if it's been suggested, it should be easy to introduce a flexi half season ticket. Maybe a  12 game ticket which can be used for any 12 games,so a half season ticket which can be spread over the full season.

Maybe its just me, but I have a real sense this season, that the club have gone back 12yrs on and off the pitch.

I haven't been to a game since Wharton was sold and JDT walked and I have no intention of attending anytime soon, they can shove the season tickets where the sun doesn't shine to be frank.

In my opinion we made JDT's position untenable, after what can only be described as a superb first season. He came in during the summer, after many managers had turned us down, and seemingly pulled rabbits out of hats week in week out. We hit last summer with a real sense of optimism, the club able to push on, the football excellent at times and then the bombshell that our bent owners are in court and funds are pulled, the taps turned off, coincidence? or just criminality? Either way the club suffers, the fans suffer and its back to 2012 all over again.

Selling Adam Wharton this season was absolutely criminal, they couldn't wait to get the lad out of the door. Here we have a Rovers fan playing for his boyhood club, a future England star, sold from under the managers nose as soon as a bid came in. I don't care about administration, I don't care if we needed the money, they sold at the first opportunity that arose, that is the point here.

Then JDT walks, lied to again by owners who promise so much, yet deliver so little and its back to square one, the best manager in 12yrs and they've bolloxed it up. Then on the back of that we have the players, our wonderful players who put us in the position, telling the fans they need more backing, more people coming through the gates, talk about no bloody accountability of self-awareness!

Needless to say, our season ticket money will be staying in the bank, I doubt I'll go again until these owners leave, but when they do, we have 5 season tickets waiting to be bought, the clock is ticking for these abhorrent owners.

You do know that JDT's superb first season resulted in 69 points, exactly the same as Tony Mowbray the previous season ?

The difference between JDT’s style of football and demeanor and enthusiasm compared to Mowbray  are poles apart. As was being eluded to here, had he been backed, not only was he likely to get us up, he would have done it in style.

That ship has sailed and will not be back in the harbor any time soon.

The problem with this is cannibalising your full season ticket sales. Make it too attractive a prospect and people who would have bought a ST buy this instead, and you could actually end up with less income. I accept it isn't just about how much the club brings in but it also can't be ignored. It's a fine balancing act.

I don't agree with flexi tickets etc as good as they might sound to some it's self inflicting even lower turn outs actually in the ground for a lot of games.

Only way it works is a good discount on full ST early birds, some kind of attractive offer for lapsed / newbies and kids then sell as many as you can.  Then you can look the database and perhaps come up with something to try and get the irregulars to be more regular.

It took Mowbray 5 years of 'development' to get us to 69 points. That includes 10 transfer windows during which he was only forced to sell Adam Armstrong and had, comparatively speaking, a massive budget.

JDT came in 2 weeks before pre-season started having just lost Lenihan, Nyambe and Rothwell

The way to do this is simple and obvious. It doesn't need someone to reinvent the wheel with clever strategies. It needs price reductions across the board, it needs people to see value in the product and it needs serious sustained efforts at selling.

When it comes to value in the product there are many aspects to this. Selling all your quality players, spending no money, throwing in the academy kids - this is not going to persuade anyone that you have any ambitions or serious intentions. With half the games being midweek, red button, Sky, dodgy sticks, lunchtime kick offs then the price of a season ticket has to reflect this as a large number of people will be unwilling or unable to get to those matches. So you have to have a price whereby it is still worth being a season ticket holder even if you miss all those games.

Preston and Bolton - £250 per adult. So even if you missed 50% of all the games you are still getting the other 50% for a reasonable price that's still good value despite the Sky tv and kick off nonsense.

But at £400 per adult if you miss 50% of the games you are looking at a price which is hardly worth it when the club often offers matchday tickets at £15-25. People will just pick and choose and not be any worse off.

There is also an onus on the club to drive sales. Putting a few tweets out and tacky straplines about commitment or similar isn't enough. You need to engage clubs, schools, previous buyers, get people buying in groups. This takes time and effort. You can't do it overnight.

Too much effort here.

Waggott has got away with his low hanging fruit policy for 5-6 years milking the results of Mowbray getting us back up and protected by Covid and then JDTs good season.

I think he's going to get the results of his ruinous policies very soon. May need to bring forward that retirement date.

I can see your point.

Do you not think though, that we're reaching a stage where there's a hardcore of season ticket holders who will renew no matter what?

I'm  in that category, I've certainly never been against the club reducing ticket prices to try to maximise sales.

Rovers have to lower the prices this coming season with the new TV deal coming which the EFL wanted more money from TV revenue. Games will be moved to a number of different kick offs from Friday night to Sunday afternoon. Rovers should charged £199 for Riverside, £249 for BBE and lower JW, £280 for JW upper wing and £330 for JW upper centre

I think Rovers also need to look at match day prices policy where you need to make attractive for walk on fans to attend also. £10 for midweek games, £15 to £20 for weekend games

I hope Rovers actually serious think about this cos some people won't be attend to every game due to work or family commitments was kick offs changing.

The TV deal is a sickener for all clubs. Sky will put absolutely no thought towards the fans, moving more games here there and everywhere. It will affect crowds up and down the country, showing furthermore that when Sky said during Covid that football is nothing without fans, it was a blatant lie from their side.

Throw in the disconnect currently between the fans and the club and the shoddy way its being run with owners as bad as youll find in the EFL, and budget cuts galore. With a poor team under an unpopular manager and a pitiful home record this season, season ticket sales will dive. The only way to keep them respectable is a significant drop in price. I expect at best a freeze.

Neither did the EFL in agreeing the deal.

What evidence is there that the manager is unpopular ?
