How much do we think we'd realistically get for Carter if he was sold?

Ive no idea really but arguably not much given his recent form?

At one stage id have had him in the Β£5m plus bracket. Now I think we'd be lucky to get Β£2m for him.Β

It's very subjective so I'd be interested to know what others think.

In one piece or organ by organ?

Yeah, I would be surprised given his injury record if anyone would seriously invest. If he can get through a whole season uninjured and in good form his value will rebound, but it's definitely low at the moment.

Why are we talking about selling Carter when we need another centre back signing?Β

Norwich spending an initial 6.9m on a 23 year old striker from Brondby.

Not that I want Rovers to spend big on players with no Championship experience, but just having a bit more flexibility when it comes to the transfer budget would be quite niceΒ πŸ˜‚.

do we know what our budget even is? we have spent money but with most transfers being undisclosed now we never know the true figures. Rumours we spend Around 2m on Tavares and 400k on De NeveΒ

I suspect because people want to know who’s still here that’s worth any money and still under contract/willing to sign one.

Even so, recent history tells us it doesn’t matter how much we recoup from player sales, it isn’t then spent on replacements for them.

Clearly I don't know what the budget is πŸ˜‚, but I highly doubt well be spending 6.9 million on a single player anytime soon... and anyway, I was just trying to be a bit light-hearted given the grim nature of this thread.

Silver Eze has just signed a 2 year scholarship. Don't know much about him but he was linked with AC Milan and Juventus not long ago so good to tie him down.

The β€˜project’ is clearly buying young raw talent in order to develop them and sell them on. Gestede said as much iirc? What I’m surprised at is that they are actually following thru on their stated ambitions.Β
Β

The risks are obvious, I don’t think they need spelling out ad nauseam. However, if the club has chosen well the upsides are also obvious, exciting young wingers who can make things happen. And who doesn’t love watching an exciting winger?Β
Β

And the people saying it’s grim and we’re fooked and relegation is nailed on are the same people who said it for the past 2 summers.Β

Yeah... true we have beaten expectations generally over the last five years. We are going next level with the risks now though... ramping up on a lot of players who have no British football experience. I have been having a look around Transfermarkt trying to see if any other champ club has gone down a similar route (i.e. signing lots of lower/small division foreign players) and I haven't really found any.

So it could work, or it could not, we really don't know until the season gets going. Tronstad, Ohashi, Geuye all have been very good (well Big Mak less so, but still decent imo), and while Toth has not played that much but has started to look promising, all of which is positive. But I do have the doubts brought about by Telelovic, the Portugeezers etc. And if it worked to bring on loads of lower division players on 50% or less wage than established Championship players, surely many clubs would be doing it?

Also a side comment as well... the players aren't stupid. They will look at the new players coming in and they know it is to save money, so for Travis, Brittain etc I am sure it will be another factor for them to look to other clubs who are investing.

Probably because it's naive to think that if anyone came in with a realistic cash bid for Carter the Club wouldn't entertain it.

Then try to replace him for about one third of the cost, our current sort of E1m range.

It was strange that he wasn't announced with all the other new scholars several weeks ago.

I'm guessing but perhaps he was being hawked around by someone (strictly speaking players aren't allowed to have an agent until the are 18) and it didn't materialise.

Because the club is in a financial crisis and the only way to deal with that is to sell assets, of which Carter is one of the few remaining.Β

Make no mistake Chaddy - financial concerns and issues are top of the priority list here not making sure Ismael has the best squad he can. If we need to raise some quick cash he's one they will identify as a source of that. There aren't many others.Β

I don't know what is more ridiculous, people believing that this regime has committed to spending Β£2 million on a player or that anyone would think spending that on a player with Tavares' background is reasonable/acceptable.Β

Probably inserted a Β£1 release clause on him

Until we see the player play none of us can judge but Rovers have decide he is the one they want and lets see him play first.Β

We simple don't know what the terms of the transfer deal is, if you do please enlighten us all JHRover, can't wait to read what the transfer agreement is? 😁

No, but we can use reason to deduce that this club, under this ownership wouldn't be paying Β£2m for a player, and if they were, spending that on this player would be ludicrous.

I'm begging you to employ some critical thinking.

Oh that's surprising tbf. When he wasn't announced with the intake I thought that was done. Probably hasn't been able to secure the deal elsewhere he thought he could. Certainly a positive but given how he clearly wasn't all that keen to sign up, seems very likely he will be off at some point if he impresses the bigger fish enough.

Perhaps more of an Ash Phillips thanΒ  a Finneran.

Thanks to all who engaged with the Carter question with logic. We've been owned by these cretins for long enough to know that anyone with any value is up for sale if a bid comes in.

There's supposed Prem interest. I can't really divulge anymore as the info/source was way too specific.Β

My wife marks GCSE English papers. One year the subject the kids had to write about was a big decision they’d had to make. One kid wrote that he’d had to chose between staying at P N E or following his agents advice and moving to Spurs. So he had an agent at 16. Β The kid stayed at P N E but went on to have a long league career. He’s only recently retired I think.

I was surprised to see this club are ruling themselves out because they can't pay above a million Euros a year (20k Euros a week). That's higher than I thought he'd be demanding (unless he just doesn't really fancy a move to Turkey so would charge more). Though free agents do come with a wage or signing on bonus premium, often both.

I expect he has probably already had an offer with something approaching that wage. What I am confident of is he wouldn't have been demanding that from us a year ago if we had got our shit together, and definitely not 2 years ago.

Prem interest raises the price of course. Well, it should, we didn't give a shit when we sold Kaminski or Szmodics.

Theres no way that a Premier League club now holds a serious interest in Carter.

He isnt a young player so you wouldnt be paying for potential, hes injury prone and in the last 2 years his performances have been poor.
