I'd say his decline was down to two things - Gestede's arrival, which meant somebody else was chipping in with goals, and the decline in overall quality across the team as time went on. I think it's interesting that Lambert has dropped Conway recently - perhaps he thinks Conway's assist rate is mainly down to Rhodes predatory instincts and with strikers less capable of finishing chances Conway isn't as much use as we all thought?

Or maybe he just thinks Conway slows down play too much, which would certainly be a fair call.

I think that Conway still has a lot to offer.

In theory he does, but he's one of the players that has struggled since Lambert has arrived - and if there's one thing Lambert has shown, it's that he's pretty ruthless when it comes to players not adapting to the way he wants to do things.

I guess there can be room for both Gibson and Gomez. Different kind of players. Gibson will be an inprovement over Akpan.

There's maybe room for both Gibson and Gomez at the club but there's not room on the pitch for both of them at the same time in my opinion. You either have one or the other unless you're behind in the game and you've prepared to take a chance.

A big fan of Conway who always tries hard and keeps going even when it's just not happening for him. In terms of form he's always been the same though, has a purple patch and is a consistent thorn in opponents sides game after game then he literally just runs out of steam. If you want a hardworking wide player who gets back and puts a shift in he's your man.

If your looking for a bit of flair and less predictability then he's not. I think he'll have a big part to play in Lamberts team but might find himself rotated or used as a sub more often in order to try and get the best out of him.

He might get more game time in games where we don't have three defensive players in midfield. I can see why we played that way yesterday but in games against lesser teams we may need more attack minded players.

I thought the performances of Graham and Watt yesterday perfectly illustrated the type of front man that Lambert wants. Both have the ability to work the channels and the ball sticks with both when it is played up to then. Graham was excellent yesterday in holding the ball and then bringing the midfield into play and it was no coincidence that our midfield men found themselves in and around the penalty area far more yesterday than I can remember in a long time. Lambert is introducing a different style of play and clearly he didn't think Rhodes suited the role he wanted his front men to play. Rather than have him sitting on the bench as a fringe player it surely made more sense to part company and collect a decent fee that will enable the rebuilding to continue in the summer.

I'm pleased that both Graham and Watt played well and played the way Lambert is wanting.

I have commented in the past the type of way Lambert wanted to play. Now appears that we are playing his way.

I would be looking for a left back and pacey striker.

Watt and Jackson are our fast strikers. Maybe he'll look to bring someone in that carries more of a goal threat than Jackson in the summer though?

Priority should be getting some competition for Danny Graham as the lead striker. Brown and Delfouneso are nowhere near up to the job.

Your problem is "Stuart", you won't have anything said against your poster boy and you always want the final word. The previous post was a reply to another member and didn't need another comeback from you. It isn't "nonsense" either - it's the evidence in front of me. Rhodes has a very good goalcoring record but it could have been even better if he'd accepted most of his chances.

Yes, the sooner we get rid of players like him the better.

I looked at his comments. Why do you think that ?

The last 2 paragraphs he pretty much says he isn't quite happy with squad and have to bring in players to help the current players we have.

Prerty sure he has gone on record saying he will be looking.

I'd really like to see a left back and an attacking midfielder who is capable of dribbling with the ball. It's great to have players who can pick a pass, but someone who can beat a man can be just as dangerous in breaking down the opposition defensive shape. Not to mention it's a bit of a crowd pleaser. It eats me up that we frittered away Judge so cheaply. But we've covered all that before.

Bryan Oviedo could be worth a look at left back, 25 not getting much game time at Everton and out of contract in the summer.

Good player, rotten injury record though.

The risk you take isn't, if he hadn't had that injury record we'd no chance be able to get him. The injuries he got, where they not from poor tackles? Or re-occurring injuries?

Perhaps we could enquire after Galloway in his stead?
