Warren Joyce, imo, would be a fine choice.

What he achieved at Hull way back when was remarkable. He is a seasoned veteran, yes his managerial experience is small, but do not let that put you off.

You don't work for Manchester United as a youth team manager, a club which has a proud history of developing talent, without possessing something.

He is in the mould of a Big Sam type, he likes to rough things up when needed, and for me will take no prisoners in an attempt at going for the play-offs next season.

That said, I still want Neil Warnock....

He's not qualified for the job though. We need someone with extensive experience of working as a MANAGER under a budget and having to rebuild an entire squad. We've 14 players on the books.

Our ambition should not be to 'develop talent'. Our ambition as a club should be finding a proven winner for this level who can come in and take us to the next level (upwards not downwards). The only way this club will flourish is to get back into the top flight.

Why on earth would we want to take a punt on someone who has never managed at this level and has spent the last 6 years looking after Man Us reserves? It is nonsensical but not surprising. Whichever moron is leading this search appears determined to send us into League One by appointing the most depressing manager possible. We started with Paul Jewell, have gone through all the ex-Rover lower league managers and are now on to ex-Dingle Man Utd reserve coaches. All the while the qualified candidates like Warnock, Davies etc. are saying 'come and get me' in the media.

Sickening. If this is what we're going for then I'll be betting heavily on relegation next season.

Any manager apart from Neil Warnock is taking a chance, is it not?

Literally any appointment including Warnock is 'taking a chance' because none of us can see into the future. It's the degree of risk you take that is important, and a club in our position can't afford to go into risky, unknown territory. We're on the precipice right now. A good appointment will have an uphill battle, a bad one will destroy what's left of us.

The longer it drags on the more 33/1 on Irvine looks like easy money.

Who said Vs are stupid, not when it comes to the old betting game they aren't :tu:

Another huge risk if they appoint another inexperienced youth coach but if the aim is to turn out youth as first team soon as possible whilst hoping to unearth talent for a conveyor belt of sales, well that's they way they're going to go.

Mind you it's probably just a nice publicity stunt for them, mention the name Man Utd in India and it might get air time.

If we are honest, if Irvine had been given the job last November it would have been seen as a massive improvement on Bowyer! As i see it, he knows the squad, discussed what needed doing with Lambert, so should have an idea as to what needs to be done. Some of the managers being mentioned wont know the league never mind what is left of our squad. It took both Kenny and Souness a few games to assess the squad they were given. Only then did we go for promotion. Saying all that i prefer Warnock, Davies or Pearson.

Well this leak has obviously come from the Manchester end. The journalist, Mark Druker, used to work for the MEN.

Without writing Joyce off because no one knows how he would fare, if it's true then the big picture behind Venkys thinking suggests their real beliefs lie behind doing everything on the cheap. It suggests that they still believe or they fervently hope some academy coach can turn around the club. It's a real worry.

Looking at Joyce's Wiki profile, there's nothing there to base any real hopes on. He had success as a player manager at fourth division Hull City. They were on the verge of relegation out of the football league. Then they sacked him. Two years at Royal Antwerp before leaving to manage Man Utds reserves. He's never managed above fourth division level, never had any experience of having to rebuild a squad and never been involved in any way at championship level.

You just have to wonder and ask why?

Ex Bolton 1980's?

Son of ex rover Walter Joyce.

They're going down the route of trying to turn a profit on players again, I think.

A completely left-field name. Someone that's not previously interested clubs. They're probably hoping he'll be a 'yes' man, someone who's just glad to have the job.

Surprised they've not gone for an Everton youth coach, though?

This is hopeless. We're lining up to be racing certainties for relegation now.

Warren Joyce is highly regarded at Manchester United, he is a good coach. He has not managed a club for a long time though and probably looking at Blackburn as a stepping stone into management. He played for Burnley in the mid-1990's and scored in the Play-Off Semi Final at Plymouth. He left after the Burnley were relegated after one season and went on to become player manager for Hull City where he was quite successful.

With a tight budget, he might be a good shout because he is excellent at developing players.

They still probably think if they just land on the right guy he will suddenly start churning youth for profit over night. The same crap that Kean and co probably fed them, clowns.

So employ him as a youth team coach then - the manager's role isn't to develop young players, it's to build a team and set the agenda for the whole club. He has no experience in any of this. How many times do we have to appoint an inexperienced manager before we realise that it's unlikely to work?
