Mowbray’s Future

That is perhaps the clearest and most apposite analogy that I have seen so far, for the peril the club is facing.  We think the ride has been scary this far, but just imagine the sound that the boulder will make as it rolls inevitably towards and over us. In the movies, of course, there would be a superhero waiting in the wings, Indiana Jones-like. We have Mike (No nads) Cheston, and Paul (look how big my cock is) Senior.

Doomed.

Just came across this too - we're the 11th most successful Premier League team of all time - West Ham have only just recently knocked us out of the top ten: http://www.myfootballfacts.com/All-TimePremierLeagueTable1992-93to2010-11.html

Makes you want to weep.

Despite what these muppets are doing to us we will be a big fish. The fact we've spent all but a few years of our 130 year presence in the League above it sees to that.

Who will be a bigger club than us? Arguably Bradford/Portsmouth on the basis of larger fanbases but they don't have anywhere near our pedigree, trophies or facilities.

Bolton have been a 'big club' this season down there and we will be the same. The question is can we use that to our advantage or will we waste it? Coventry have wasted it and are suffering because of it, and I'd bet everything I own that if these people stay here long enough we'll follow them into the 4th tier eventually.

Whatever gates we end up getting will be more to do with their 7 years+ of horrific mismanagement than a reflection of club size.

Pedigree counts for nowt when you've 120 million of debt, a payday loan and 3 conkers and an out of date bag of seabrook as your transfer kitty.

As for facilities expect to see at least 1 additional stand closure next season and I wouldn't be surprised if the senior and development centres are brought back together.

On crowds of 5 or 6k  we simply don't have the money to service these facilities without adding more and more debt to the already crippling figures we are losing.

And that only covers since 1992. If applied to the non-Sky Sports created window of the entire history of English football we're inside the top 10 and likely will be for a long time.

With a portion of the training ground sold off to a leisure centre then rented back or something.

We would become the only Category 1 Academy outside the championship and prem, expect a downgrade to category 2. We would also become a reasonably unattractive category 2 club, why would you sign for a team where the first team is in league 1 as opposed to signing for one where the level you're aiming it is championship.

I think we would be one of only 3 or 4 league 1 clubs at category 2, I think Colchester, Charlton and Coventry are cat 2, so we would be basically operating in a pretty crappy market. If you think that of the 30 scholars that get taken on by prem clubs each year about 5 make a 'career' in football, so of the kids that get signed at Cat 2 they have been passed over or released from cat 1 clubs, so you'd have to say statistically the writing is on the wall for those kids with regards a career. So if you are one of the only cat 2 clubs in league 1, you are looking at the kids passed over by cat 1 clubs and most likely the cat 2 championship clubs. Real world beaters........

This relegation could absolutely cripple our academy and with it the long term salvation of the club.

Whilst Coyle's manic positive attitude was corrosive Mowbrays defeatist persona doesn't bode well for a man facing life in the relegation trenches of league 1 next season. We could easily be next years Coventry with a new man trying unsucessfully to rid the squad of Mowbrays Marvin the Robot attitude._56324414_marvin.jpg

Unfortunately TM was dealt the hand he was given

without bringing anyone in whom he'd worked with previously making the job in hand even harder

Unless we have a massive turnaround the new management structure reporting into a car salesman  is a downgrade on even Coyle .. Two wins so far isn't good enough

That rule has applied to pretty much all of our managers who have walked in and out of the door since Kean left.

Each and every one of them, no matter the extent of how they might have failed with the players at their disposal, would barely get a scratch on their reputations as managers at Rovers while these owners are in situ. As far as external folk are concerned, everything can be put down our crazy ownership.

People ask "Why on Earth would any reputable manager worth his salt want to manage Rovers?"... Well, there's one reason for you... They have absolutely nothing to lose, and something to gain if they ever succeeded at that free-swing of turning things around. All of our managers since Kean have been in that same boat.

Imo, the exact same argument applies re: owning this club post-admin.

Tony Mowbray quotes below. Pity we didn't have him all season. We would not be down where we are.

“The highs and lows of football are there on your desk every day, that’s why the lows are lower than you can ever imagine and the highs the same, it’s just how you manage your outward emotions and what people see.

I can try and keep mine inside but when the things are going well and the team are functioning you can take a lot of pride from the work that you do yet the burden of the defeat falls very heavy because you’re the guy that has done the preparation, the guy that has tried to inspire and the guy that has set the tactics out.

“The burden of that weighs heavy, not just because of the football club and your own career but the ladies in the kitchen, the ladies who take the telephone calls, the people around the stadium on matchdays, everyone around the training ground who you work with on a daily basis are very aware of not accumulating enough points this season.

“That will impact on a lot of people’s lives so there is a heavy burden.

“When I turn that light off at night and it’s just me and my thoughts all I can do is not cut any corners, work as hard as I can, use the knowledge I have had over the last 50 years and try and put that in to practice.

“All I can give is everything I’ve got and that’s what I’m doing at the moment and at times that’s at the sacrifice of your own life and family, because I think it’s that important.”

I don’t think you switch off.

“I have three young children, 12, nine and seven.

“They know I’m at Blackburn Rovers but they don’t even ask about our league position, they just ask did we win or did we lose.

“I’m a father as well as a football manager, that’s my solace and where I go to to be a normal guy.

“The football is all encompassing, it swarms all over you really.

“Sometimes you don’t sleep because you’re trying to pick a team, you’re thinking about the strengths and weaknesses of the opposition, you’re thinking about how you’re going to speak to the player you’ve left out who’s been doing well but in this game this is how you believe you should play, because I’m the guy who sits in the office studying the opposition for hour after hour on the players days offs"

I didn't like the name when I heard it initially, but everything he's said has resonated, I can't think of a single interview I haven't agreed with him.

I can criticise some tactical choices from the outside looking in, but the positives compared to the previous manager are stark. Wish we'd had him all season, I concur we'd be safe.

Great guy, poor manager.

Slightly unfair to label him a poor manager if you're looking at what he's done here alone. His record here over the full season would have put us mid-table. When you look at how utterly shocking our squad is he's done well enough too have us still in touch with 3 games to go. Whether we stay up or not, I certainly won't hold any ill feeling towards Mowbray and if he moves on at the end of the season I wish him all the best. As someone said, he's far too good a man to be working for our owners.

It says a lot about our club that we like a manager simply because he doesn't talk out of his anus. A cynic might suggest that is was why he was employed<_<

I started to have doubts about him against Bristol City. I'm hoping that was an aberration and that I can once again worship at the church of ToMo come 5pm today.

Actions always speak louder than words, but when poor actions are backed up with excuses and lies - a manager deserves stick. It's obvious from Tony's demeanour, words and actions that he's putting as much as possible into it.

Thats all Blackburn Rovers fans ever wanted, someone with the right credentials and mindset!

I agree I think he is doing the very best he can with the players he's been given, we would definitely be in a different position if we had him at the start of the season, theres been a couple of games where he was to blame but he's human and he can't get it spot on every time, I think for the majority he's got things right and then there's a certain amount of responsibility that the players need to be accountable for.

Hes come in a short period of time where there hasn't been much room for error and the fact that we are still in with a good chance of staying up with 3 games to play with such a week squad is credit to him. Most would have written us off with Coyle as manager but he's brought belief into the camp and now he's got a full squad to pick from with mulgrew and Lenihan coming back in we need to through the kitchen sink at it now.

i think a small amount will rely on the tactics for the remaining all about heart at this stage, if he can't get them to fight for it we are at nothing.

2-1 win COYB

That's only part of it. We also need someone who can deliver results. To only get 1 point at home to Barnsley and Bristol City is a very poor return. Forest on the other hand was a good result. We need another 'Forest' today.

I have no doubt Mowbray is a man of integrity who will put his all into the club. He is a vast improvement on Coyle in every way imaginable. Is he a winner though? Because what that club needs first and foremost is a winner, a man who can squeeze every last drop out of the players at his disposal. A bit like Warnock does, and like Grayson does. I'm not sure Mowbray is that type of character, with that type of mindset.
