He came in about two years ago - was okay, then unbelievably bad (wigan away...), back in after Wahlstadt (even worse than Pears) and a bit shaky, then around six months of being actually pretty good, then back to shaky, and here we are.

I reckon we are looking at about a 33% chance of him coming back in and being any of good/shaky/diabolical.

So, best case scenario he misses the games against Derby, Preston, QPR, Wrexham, Ipswich, Sheffield Wednesday and probably Oxford as well. Worst case scenario (if 8 weeks) he's also out for Portsmouth, Millwall, Boro, Sheffield Wednesday again and most likely Wrexham again and Charlton. 

Potentially 13 games out. Best case scenario most likely 7 games. And that doesn't factor in recovery time which probably adds at least a game or two to each scenario.

Better hope Pears comes in thinking he has a point to prove.

We are doomed if this is true. Finally get some wins and now back to calamity Pears. Lets face it, if he were in goal against Southampton and Leicester then we wouldn't have won those games. That's the difference of a good keeper.  I'm already having nightmares thinking of him being back in the first team.

This is bad news not just because we have to put up with Pears again just as we were regaining form, but also because an injury like that, especially one needing surgery, might reduce his capability going forward, or create a chronic recurring issue.

well we are now desperately short on goalkeeping cover,need to tap into the free transfer market imo,i don`t rate pears but if anything happens to him then we are in a very precarious state

It is not the end of the world. It just makes a hard job, harder. It might give Michalski an earlier than planned chance.

If transfermarkt is anything to go by there's slim pickings.

Rui Patricio ex of wolves and Portugal is 37 and has settled status for a work permit

Fraser Forster likewise 37, there's a keeper who's been on the books at spurs and middlesbrough called Glover, 27 and no senior appearances to speak of. Thomas Vaclik, 36, Czech international spent some time at Huddersfield would get a permit.

Stankovic, 33, 4 caps for Austria last club AEK Athens, calculator recons work permit goes to a tribunal.

None of them really inspire confidence.

Really gutting news losing Toth. I was hoping he'd just jarred his knee a bit, 4 weeks seems insane for an injury needing surgery, it's got to be more like the 8 (or more) if true. Goes much further than just losing the keeper too, Toth is brilliant at arranging the defence particularly on set pieces. An already unsettled back mine just got a whole lot more unsettled 🥲

Interesting shouts. They might not inspire confidence but, for me, much more than Pears does. I doubt we will see anyone come in and, like others have said, we have just got to hope he grabs what is likely a last chance for him to be a first team goalkeeper at this level before his career is fully consigned to bench warming and training games.

Although obviously bad news I honestly was bracing myself for it being an ACL injury so in some ways it's a bit of a relief.

Time for Pears to step up.
