Think this signing perfectly sums up where we are as a club.

To me, it's feckin obvious we need to sign players and lots of them too given the anticipated exodus, so there's no real positive in this signing.

He's supposed to be quick but looking at the guy he's going to be on his backside outside the Riverside on many occasions  - looks physically weak and unsuitable for the intensity and physicality of the Championship.

Good luck lad, think you'll feckin need it.

Belgium podcast soccer journalist far from complimentary about De Neve. Lacks creativity and rarely attempts on goal. Was not considered to be one of their better players in a team that's been fighting relegation from a lower standard league than the Championship. Also mentioned that the club has been badly run so all in all he should feel at home at Rovers. Might be ok in L1 the season after next.

Very strange signing indeed

I watch the odd bits of Belgian football purely for betting purposes and the standard even in the top flight is dreadful it really is, most teams way below championship standard - Kortrijk included. Hence the vast majority of the national team play abroad apart from the odd player from the bigger clubs like Brugges.

I can only assume our scouting network (I use the term loosely) were tasked with finding someone with a bit of pace, with a valuation of < 1M. Basically like when you set the filters on champ manager as such. I find it hard to believe we've been tracking him for a while or even seen him play much.

Despite the above I will give the guy a chance like with any new signing, we may be pleasantly surprised.

After listening to the likes of Paul Merson slag off Rovers fans over their over the top reaction of Steve Kean and the goings on at Blackburn, I take anything from pundits and journos with a pinch of salt. Judging on a few of the comments i've read from fans of the team he's leaving, we've got a player who is hardworking, wants to improve, and a decent person. Seems like qualities I want in a player at Rovers. Let's hope our coaching staff can work their magic and turn him into a gem of a player. Fingers crossed!

De Neve certainly feels like a signing that's going to take a reasonable amount of time getting up to speed at Rovers. He'll have to improve his physicality and his technique by all accounts.

Ohashi came in last summer and his technique was some way off but it improved over the course of the season, it's still not quite there but it improved a lot. That took a whole season though.

It's probably a good thing we got him in early, the coaching staff can drill his positional job into him and hopefully bulk him up a bit for the championship over pre-season.

He will qualify for a work permit.

We only have one ESC slot available, presuming Ohashi now qualifies due to his minutes last season.

Players are like avatars these days... Remember Szmodics being told exactly what he wants from JDT? Run there and only there over and over. They're told exactly what to do and it's down to them to cope with the physicality and win their individual battles. Reaction time, body shape, fitness levels etc... They obviously think that given his pace they can coach him into something potentially useful. Those talking about his frail looking appearance, remember Beck, he looked like a school boy when I first saw him.  

 

As usual, best to set your expectations low of course. It's likely he probably won't be good enough to improve us.

Spot on , Neal!   This 'Bulking up' business as well is all well and good, but with that players lose their speed and agility, which in itself is an enormous threat..   Also, having a lot of muscle mass doesn't always translate to being strong and explosive when moving on the pitch.  I've witness many big lads be sent flying by much smaller, frailer looking footballers..  Perhaps he could carry a bit more meat on him, but I don't think it's all that necessary to be honest..  I'd much rather us work to players strengths than file them down into something distinctly average and not particularly good at anything..
