An influential player in the spine of the team may have that effect ( Adam Wharton being a prime example ).Β Must disagree with you on that one.Β Keith had the versatility to play in midfield as well as a player who could operate on either flank at full-back.Β The season he left, in December, we had spent serious money on Allan Hunter, Ken Knighton and Brian Hill, in a bid to get promotion.Β We were challenging at the top of the table until Keith left and then results fell away in the second half of the season.Β Tried to fill the gap with a combination of Ray Charter, Frank Kopel and Laurie Calloway - all inferior players - and confidence seemed to be impacted by the loss of England's best right-back at the time. Also, you may remember me telling posters, just after Eustace left, to keep an eye out for a pattern that has been showing itself over the last 15 years. Re: Six clubs in particular. I said Karanka would be next in based off of that pattern. It didn't happen, but a hack had him down as the leading candidate for a time, which says plenty IMO. Looking at this summer...whatever it is, be it a small world, fishing in the same pool etc, the pattern is there again. The pattern is always there because Pasha is always there. The links to the very earliest days of Venky's reign are still there.Β How is it that Gestede turned up from nowhere to shadow Waggott with a view to taking a senior role - with no previous experience? It's the same pattern.Β to quote Michel Salgado "βIβm not surprised because the things that are happening are totally outside of football,β said Salgado. βThe decisions are made in a different way to any other club in the world." Brittain will be forgotten this time next year. 1 Quote

DutchRover Posted 2 hours ago Posted 2 hours ago For all that we still desperately need signings, I wonder if we are operating a one in one out policy. Will be interesting to see if Henriksson is only announced when we flog Buckley. Quote

Depends what sort of wage he is on, If "some European semi pro side" cannot afford to match them, then he might fancy sitting things out, in which case we would need to pay his contract up * Sending him away on loan would not remove him from the esc calculation, he would need to be off the books completely Edited 2 hours ago by KentExile Quote
RevidgeBlue Posted 2 hours ago Posted 2 hours ago Absolutely bizarre to think that out of the team that did so well for the vast majority of last season, we've lost the manager, three out of four of the back line (Beck, Batth and Brittain) Dolan and Weimann who was a useful squad player. With no doubt more to follow. Clubs generally tend to implode when they've been relegated and get picked off. Not when they've had a generally successful season. This lot dont give a rat's arse do they. We're now unwilling to pay the going rate for decent Championship players which will only end one way. Then, when we get relegated to League 1and revenue falls off a cliff due to reduced gate receipts and loss of the Championship TV deal, how long before we're then unwilling to pay the going rate for the better players in League 1? Rinse and repeat. Happy times. 4 Quote
