  1. This is the exact same situation as last year when Mowbray went to India. He came back and acted like there was no money to invest and suddenly we paid 2.5 million for Armstrong and another ~7 million for Brereton. Just because he isnt saying anything doesnt mean we havent got anything to spare. Lets judge him by his actions in the market first.

  2. In January Mowbray said that money had been made available by the owners for him to use if he wanted but that he had chosen not to use it, instead continuing with what we had with a view to that cash being available at a later date when it was better to do business. He either said or strongly inferred that the money would be ring fenced for later use and not lost. Last summer he spoke of a multi season project being agreed and set in motion. He spoke of the owners wanting promotion but him slowing them down and selling them the gradual build model. He claimed money was available all summer and the bulk of it was then spent on Brereton. After the end of this season he spoke about aiming for the play-offs and promotion and targeting new players who would improve the team. He mentioned defender(s) coming in for starters. Going to look a bit silly if all that was nonsense or they've backtracked again and we end up with no money or having to sell to buy.

  3. In his leaving comments “I have met the most amazing people and enjoyed many highs and only some lows in my time here. “I would like to thank everyone at the club and the fans for the fantastic support they have shown me. “I wish you all the very best and hope to see Rovers back in the Premier League where they belong in the near future.” Very classy from him, it's just a shame everyone doesn't demonstrate the same class.

  4. Because we didn't play Rothwell and Travis for half the season and persisted with Mulgrew at CB.

  5. Do people really expect Mowbray to come back from India shouting 'loadsamoney'!! Do that and he's paying more on every deal...

  6. I think if people removed there hatred for Andrews and actually listened to him he is actually very good at his job

  7. We didn't nearly end up in the play-offs. We were top 2 most of the season and finished 9 points ahead of 3rd. 9 points Stuart. That's not nearly ending up in the play-offs, sorry. Our squad was better, as was Sunderlands this season. The difference was our manager delivered and got the best out of them. Not sure what you mean by your last sentence

  9. Yep I might be wrong but I don't recall Hanley, Marshall etc coming out with stuff like that yet there are calls to bring them back like prodigal sons. Once the writing was on the wall some couldn't wait to get away, to hell with the fans and club. Class act on and off the pitch in his time Conway, great professional example to lower standard players.

  10. Selling Dack to bring in loans is the very definition of short termism and a lack of vision. It would only pay off if we immediately got promoted. If we didn't then we'd have lost our best player and biggest asset and have nothing to show for it with the loans off to their next club in the summer.

  11. Mings? Absolutely zero chance of that, he’s impressed there in his loan spell. No chance of him coming here or paying his wages. Keogh is an absolute donkey also.

  12. I cheered almost as loudly as if Rovers had scored and then went straight on Sunderland’s forum like a vulture. I obviously have issues.

  13. Sad to see him leave but time catches up with us all in the end. He was a crucial part of that nearly team under Bowyer, and did as much as the more vaunted Rhodes & Gestede to get us back up, without getting the plaudits externally that most of us fans recognised he deserved. Latterly he was obviously a true pro, giving his all on the occasions called upon and still showing glimpses of his outstanding crossing ability (albeit not consistently), whilst when not involved showed his maturity & strength as a team player to the younger ones, who surely could not have had a better role model to look up to within the squad. Would be nice if he was kept on in some form of coaching role, though I feel he'll fancy a last season or 2 playing in Scotland before he hangs up his boots. Whatever comes next for him, I wish him the absolute best & thank him for giving loyal service to us throughout a turbulent time in our history. Good luck Bull (if I may)!!

  14. Would be upset and underwhelmed with Keogh, he's a mistake waiting to happen for me. Don't see him as a realistic target either. Not many players on those two teams I wouldn't want for the right price but hes one of them, Glen Whelan would be another I'd be worried would be a TM player. Upgrade on Smallwood, but such a dull, uninspiring player. Watching McGinn this season really makes you wonder what if. Shows the benefits of being proactive in June and not waiting till August when everyone is watching.

  15. Absolutely driving force for them. He gets everywhere. Not ready for championship but looking at Sunderland yesterday and Leadbitter he’d be a perfect foil if we could get him a loan there. Hes good on the ball but he’s got a knack of being in the right place at the right time he’s tackles against to Dundee the other week set up the equaliser and sure he did the same at Hamilton weeks before. His first season as a pro and he’s played a big part at saints keeping them up. Needs a league one loan but generally I rate him.

  16. A mistake waiting to happen in every match. Cost Derby in play off final two or three seasons ago. Seen him 'live' on numerous occasions. To me, has a strange body language and I think he's a sandwich short of a picnic.

  17. Mings, Abraham, El Ghazi, Tuanzabe, Mount, Wilson and Tomori. 32% of the starting players on the pitch in the Championship Playoff Final are on loan. Phenomenal stat. We simply must do better in the loan market this summer. Harrison Reed was possibly one of our best (championship) loans to date but we need to get more ambitious in this area and not splooge our signings on the Rakeem Harper's, Martin Samuelson's and Jack Byrne's of this world. I'm not suggesting we built a squad with 5 or 6 loans in it, but 2 or 3 quality loans make the difference. If our team had even 2 of those 7 names listed above we would be a playoff chasing team too. Imagine our defense with a Mings in it, or a Tammy Abraham up top.

  18. God you never say a bad word about the Irish do you! Ask Derby fans if they rate Keogh, I’m not saying he’s poor but he lacks pace these days and tries to play it out from the back even though he struggles too pass the ball! He’s nothing special... And if you think we have any chance of signing Mings you’re in dreamland, he’ll be playing in the prem next season regardless of whether Villa go up.

  19. Yeah your right. Forget the venkys wanted to spend on a promotion push and he had to reign them in, forget he said there is cash left over from two windows and now it's vanished, forget that we have to sell our best players and replace them with unproven youth players. Forget that the sole aim of our club is to churn out talent for clubs with ambition, forget he said we need to sign proven championship quality players because the ones we have aren't good enough then back tracked and now we are signing players who need development, forget he said top two is the aim and then everything else that followed suggests a team treading water , forget he's set up a scouting system but we are still being linked to ex Coventry players who have done nothing. Your right I am negative. I never used to be but I am because i can see what's happening. I wish I could pretend all is going to be rosy and we are slowly building something, we are not. I don't believe Tony can take us forward, I don't believe venkys have our best intentions and I don't believe we will get anywhere near the top six why either is in charge. I will stop posting and moaning and lurk in the background because I love this club and want my children to see a full ewood and premier league football and it hurts me that they will never feel the way I did when they are watching mowbray play an ex Coventry striker on the left wing and seeing darragh, dack and anyone else who has a half decent season flogged to a promotion chasing team to see the funds thrown into a blackhole that can probably never be plugged. The last 12 months and with Tony saying they wanted to back a promotion and there was cash left gave me a glimmer of hope after what has been a horrific decade. You want to be positive fine, I say your burying your head in the sand to the reality of what we are and we're we are going....nowhere I'm out. Enjoy your transfer thread.

  21. That's why my initial reaction was anger. I'm sick of being fed BS and it looks like I've eaten another four courses of it over the last 12 month. Every window is just lies, frustration and disappointment.

  22. I agree, but most critics have not been "slating" him, have they? There was reasonable concern about the offer of a new contract to a previously good player, who was obviously past it. The real issue was what this implied about where the club was going!

  25. 200 appearances, always gave his all. Never any doubts over his attitude and his commitment too the cause, was one of our best players for 3 years and even when his ability declined he still always did his best. Never said a bad word about the club or the fans, only ever said how much he’s enjoyed his time at the club and how he appreciates the fans support. Is that not worth anything anymore? Have a day off Rev he’s 33/34 he’s obviously not as good anymore but that happens, the least you can do is have a bit of respect for the time he’s spent here. After some of the signings we’ve had since Venkys have been here especially!

  26. I agree. He doesn't creep and try to be PC. He tells it as it is, just like an ordinary fan would.

  27. Unfortunately for Derby they waited until they were two down before they started playing. Villa get their reward for sticking two fingers up at FFP regulations.

  34. How on earth are we a better option than the clubs they are currently at? Said months ago that we will not be signing ready made first 11 signings, and stick by that. The team that lines up on the opening day next season will be... Raya, Nyambe, Lenihan, Williams, Bell, Bennett, Travis, Evans, Rothwell, Dack, Graham. With a few new lads on the bench who will be waiting there turn for the next 6 months.

  35. What is nagging away at me is whether TM's likeable, decent bloke stuff is merely being used as a front to reconcile us to the long term lack of Venky's ambition.

  36. Beranhio has an awful attitude which started once the Tottenham interest popped up - started to believe his own hype and it has ultimately ruined his career in my opinion.

  38. Just catching up and laughing my head off at Phil linking Dack to Manchester United. I’m sure that’s just the signing their fans are looking for lol. Never in a million years will they be looking at Dack.

  39. Gallagher will be due to retire by the time we eventually sign him. Seriously though at under 5 million he would be a decent signing. English, right age, decent enough record on loan for the most part. He needs to move somewhere now where he can call home and get a proper run of games. Maher would be a real coup if we can pull it off. A game changer of a player. I am about 10% confident that we will pull it off unfortunately. Too much money and competition sniffing around.

  40. I struggle to see how Waggott has moved Rovers forward. IMO, there have been too many expensive crass decisions which as CEO, he must have signed off on.

  42. We've already signed his replacement in Harry Chapman........so offering Conway a fresh contract was pointless so Conway could have had his moment of glory in the last game. Conway on his day was one of the best wingers in the Championship but needed a target man. For the majority of his time we didnt have that so his effectiveness wained.

  43. Unless all this is a complex 3D chess media game to hide our financial ambitions from our opponents...TM's recent comments have been depressing as hell. Pretty much admitting Venkys arent going to help with anything, only cheap miracle buys will save next season.

  44. Wow. Harsh. He's obviously not been a world beater & I hope his place in the squad is taken by a better option, but if any player (or employee in any walk of life) gives good, loyal, professional service across a quarter of their whole career as he has done, the very least he'd deserve would be some proper appreciation and best wishes for the future, rather than a dismissive "Next".

  45. Great servant too the club, he revitalised us when he first joined and we went on that run that so nearly got us in the play offs. Found Rudy and Rhodes constantly and chipped in with a few goals. Can’t knock the guy. Thanks for everything CC ??

  46. Think historys being re-written somewhat, we didn't just get promoted, we got promoted with a impressive points haul, comfortably by 9 points as @Bigdoggsteel said, with 2 games to spare and thats baring in mind in the first quarter of the season we were well off the pace (12 points) due to a long adaptation process, we made a lot of signings, the likes of Dack and in particular Graham took a bit of time to get going, and we had players like Caddis, Ward and Whittingham slowing things down. Also, the same team with very little improvement (due to Mowbray blowing most of his budget on a one goal striker admittedly) finished comfortably in mid table in the Championship. I still think we would definitely have got promoted from League 1 this season. I stand by the assertion that a great season would have been winning the league, and that Mowbray was totally out of order by publically discounting its importance. But whether anyone else could have got us promoted is irrelevant, it was still a good achievement and he still deserves credit for it. I also think the Sunderland job was a much harder one, there was less to work with in terms of the existing squad for Ross, and also it seemed from the outside to be a far more rotten core in terms of the atmosphere at the club; Mowbray didnt save us from relegation but there was a noticeable boost in terms of us under Mowbray compared to under Coyle, as youd expect. People mention the money spent on Grigg but he lost his top scorer in Maja.
