  2. Definitely remember at the time, Gladwin was being reported as free, but with appearance/performance/sell-on related extras. So, free then.

  3. I do not understand what you are trying to say regarding the video, are you saying because it is on a youtube channel with 18k subscribers it makes the show reel better than other show reels on different youtube channels?? If that is your argument it does not alter the fact anyone can look good on a show reel For balance the scouting football twitter page has 113 followers .

  4. I may be missing something but I don't see the difference between paying £6mil for a player now or loaning him with a contract to pay £6mil in the next window. In the end he has still cost the same and he is still your player whether he is a success or not. It makes no difference.

  6. I think the opposite is true in terms of why people are bothered about the potential Brereton signing, I think most fans first and foremost want to go all out to retain our status as a Championship club this season, anything over that is bonus territory. Brereton is an unknown quantity and an expensive one at that, given the recent history I think most fans want a steady pair of hands this year that will see us safe in the league and look to build over the coming years. I don't think anyone realistically think we should be chasing promotion do they? Every fan I've spoken to see this as a great opportunity to consolidate and build on the good work that began last year.

  8. I remember somebody putting up a video of Antonnson on here. He was banging goals in left, right and centre. I thought he could be the next Matt Jansen. Until I saw him play once in the flesh. His limitations were there for all to see.

  9. I’m sat in Brisbane airport with a few hours to spare so here are a few reflections: Mulgrew and Lenihan are both top players at this level. I remember saying to den after Lenihan’s return match......”we’ve really missed that brand of aggression.” One thing I do notice though is how much we tend to underrate effective defensive headers of the ball. I know there were issues at the end but Duffy was the master at this in recent times.....Hanley was pretty good too. We were usually at the top of the “won most aerial contests” stats. Some of Duffy’s clearances went over the half-way line! Neither Lenihan nor Mulgrew dominate in this respect.......so the ball often falls dangerously, even if the challenge is won. The Morrison shot on the post came from exactly that kind of situation. I remember commenting on this problem once before when Duffy and Hanley were both out of the team one time........two fluffed headers in succession, one by each centre back......one down. Kevin Moran, Colin Hendry..........that’s what I’m talking about heh heh!

  10. If I have to see one more person talking about trusting Mowbray I may just top myself. I have not seen one Rovers fan say they don't trust Mowbray, he's our most liked manager in years. I was going to say since Big Sam but I'd say he's more liked than Sam was when he was here at the time, so he's our most liked manager since Sparky!! Anyway, my point is every decision every transfer, everything a player or manager does is open to debate, question and scrutiny it's why we have a forum, potentially spending 6 million pounds on an unproven player is a risky buy. It's not a case of not trusting TM's judgment it's just a fact! I hope we sign him and I hope he turns out too be the next Shearer but until then instead of saying "trust Mowbray" let fans say their bit and give their opinion, it's why I come on here. I like seeing and reading what other people have too say... Unless all they have too say is "Trust Mowbray FFS!!"

  11. Not much sign of the loan player we were more or less promised before the weekend. Looks like the loan window is moving with the same well oiled efficiency as our dealings during the permanent window. Get ready for us to make a last minute bid to loan someone with an option to purchase for 10m when it is too physically late to complete any deal on deadline day incidentally it was very strange terminology used when Sharpe ran the story on Monday whereby TM "admitted" there'd be another signing before weekend. Almost as if it was being done against his better judgement. You'd usually save that sort of terminology for bad news I.e. TM "admitted" player X would have to be sold to balance the books etc. Presumably just a slip of the pen by Sharpe. Doesn't appear to be happening anyway.

  16. My two penniths worth. Alot of positives to take from the game. What can I say about dack that hasn't already been said he's just a joy to watch and seems to get better by the day. After the second goal went in he was screaming at his team and geeing them up to go again. Fantastic attitude and was simply brilliant all night. The suggestion to play him deeper imo is ludicrous. Rothwell however looked comfortable playing that position and could be the answer. He worked hard , put tackles in and the drove forward or played accurate long balls to our front men always looking for the attacking option which was a breath of fresh air. Bell was a menace down the left turning their right back inside out and deserves a run in the team. Raya made a couple of wonderful saves but still has that ability of shattering my confidence in him with moments of madness. Nyambe Charlie and darragh also played very well. Armstrong proved he his a striker through the middle and was superb. Negatives Samuel is awful. His didn't control a thing all night. Nuttall just doesn't get in the right positions and isn't creative enough to make intelligent runs. Sadly Conway is past it at championship level but put a good shift in last night and finally (Tin hat on) . I do not rate Kasey Palmer one bit. Goal aside without the ball he is beyond niave and his positional awareness is appalling. He looks every bit the u23 player ,albeit with potential. His decision making is poor and whilst he's quick he's a yard slower than everyone on the pitch in his head. I would not be starting him against hull. For the odd moment of skill or the odd goal he pops up with he will cost us two. Maybe harsh after three games but tony has alot of work to do with him to get him up to speed. Overall though a wonderful night I thouroughly enjoyed. Their goal was sublime and was applauded by the traveling faithful and dacks second was recipricated by there fans. The highlight was outside the ground before kick off when an elderly couple in their early seventies wandered over to a statue of a Carlisle player. The lady bent down to read the plaque and smashed her head on the players iron boot. Slumped and in pain her husband , with his hand behind his back never flinched, paused, and looked at me to say that's a free kick. I couldn't help but laugh. She was ok and started what turned out to be a wonderful night of football.

  17. Peak of his powers indeed! When you look at his highlight reel there was something about the way they he ran in the early days. Explosive power. i lost track of the number of games I used to think to myself. “It’s ok we’ll get something from this. Shearer will score.” He was a delight. Best two players I’ve ever seen at Ewood are Shearer and Tugay (and lots of other great ones). My son asked me once, “who is you favourite Rovers player ever?” I instinctively and interestingly replied Tugay. But it’s not true. How can it be? Tugay was a thing of beauty and had a greater love for the club. But deep down of course it’s Shearer. He was just incredible as a no. 9 and was so fresh as a player when we had him. So mature for his years at the time too. A genuine leader, a warrior and brilliant at what he did. The fun thing is we got to win a title whilst watching him grow on the world stage too. It was a privilege to be there and thanks again Alan!

  20. He always writes 'Mowbray admitted such and such', not a one-off and it annoys me everytime. Makes it sound like he's coming clean to some crime or something

  21. 3 points really 1 - Dont think of it as a loan, becasue it isnt really. Its a permanent signing 2 - They are the selling club and dont appear desperate. They more than likely wont agree to a loan with an option 3 - If they did and he scores 20 goals for us and looks awesome, then they go thanks rovers and take him back and we stand there looking silly. Every transfer is a risk one way or another

  22. Yes because he is effectively our player. I give up now.

  23. I don't think you understood my point. It's like a purchase but you do not pay until January.

  24. Dont think I would want him purely as a loan - that only benefits Forest as it increases his value if he does well. Would rather take a young PL striker if we are just going to loan without a permanent fee agreed.

  25. The strength of Lancashire (proper Lancashire) in being THE hotbed of the game in this country, with so many league clubs is also its weakness. If the professional game was being established today and it was done on catchment areas etc, you simply wouldn't have all the Lanky towns getting licenses. We have lots of town clubs, full of heritage, all attracting ok crowds, but with little chance to grow. Plus, a load of smaller league clubs too. Newcastle, Sunderland and Middlesbrough on the other hand are the only league clubs in the whole north east of England stretching from the Scottish borders to Leeds. A combined club for the Lancashire towns will never happen, of course, for a myirad of reasons, but it is in theory a great idea.

  26. If this was the old " Loadsamoney " Rovers you could say " Yeah sign the lad, he's a gamble but we can stand the loss if he turns out to be the new Ashley Ward, Nathan Blake, Kevin Davies etc etc ". As we all know things have changed. This could be the equivalent of betting the ranch on a young untried player. We could lump all our dosh on " red " and " black " turns up. Unless of course we have got more money to spend than we all think. Our current recruitment would suggest that's not the case. For that sort of money I'd like a more proven player at this level.

  28. Normally a rival club hiring Coyle would be funny, as Burnley fans would agree. Blackpool however have been such a dastardly, calculated car crash it invokes genuine wishes against this happening. I wonder if that Gordon guy still thinks the oystens are justified in taking all the money out the club and running it to the ground because they own it.

  32. You’ve got to be keen to do this for a 0-0 draw! But I got some good feedback last time, so here goes. There are lies, damn lies and statistics as Disraeli may have said. I was thinking about this after reading the fans comments on the post-match comments for the Ipswich game. I compared the fans’ opinions to the ratings on the whoscored.com website. Apparently Williams was our best player (7.62) and Nyambe the worst (5.82). There wasn’t much correlation! Anyway, here’s my effort for the Millwall game: Each player was judged on the following criteria: Instance of excellent play * Instance of decent/good play * Instance of disappointing/poor play * Instance of terrible play * E&OE Ratings Raya ** ** Nyambe ***** *** * Lenihan ************ ****** * Mulgrew ******* ***** * Bell ****** **** Smallwood(66) **** * Evans * ********* ** Bennett(80) * ********** Dack(82) ** ********* *** Graham ** ****** * * Palmer(63) **** ** Rothwell(63) * ** * Armstrong(66) **** Travis(80) *** * Highlights and Lowlights (A justification for the main ratings above) 6. Lenihan plays his second “too short” pass in a minute putting pressure on his team mates. This one almost allows the Millwall man a clear run on goal - fortunately Mulgrew just gets a touch. 9. Evans and Smallwood don’t do enough to prevent Millwall working the ball right across the edge of the box. Saville hits the post. 11. A nice ball from Bennett to Graham in the box. Graham heads down to Dack but he can’t quite get there. 26. Lenihan manages to get his head on a long ball but it doesn’t go far and comes straight back. Mulgrew sells himself in a poor challenge and Lenihan is too slow to stop Morrison taking a clear run on goal. He hits the post. 37. Terrible throw-in from Nyambe allows the Millwall man a run towards goal. Lenihan is too easily brushed aside. Fortunately the shot is blocked. 44. An excellent low free kick to the bottom corner by Dack. Good save. 45. Good cross from Dack is met by Lenihan. His header lands on the top of the bar. 50. Graham bursts through on to a long low ball, fighting off the defender superbly. He gets his shot in but the goalie saves with his legs. Having set it up so well, Graham should have scored. 59. A wonderful through ball by Dack. This time Graham has a clearer run on goal. He holds off the defender well but his shot hits the goalies legs again. Sorry Danny but this time it’s got to be “red”. 69. Graham chests down a long ball into the path of Rothwell who takes it on at speed and releases a fine shot from 25 metres. Another good save. 89. Evans drives forward brilliantly from the edge of his own box, holding off two Millwall men. Sadly his cross was a stinker!

  38. What?? ‘This was down my site called scouting football’ I have no idea what you are trying to say here. Are you saying it’s on your site so it must be ok? Or are you saying that just because it’s on a showreel site with 18k followers it must also be ok?? As someone alluded to, do you remember the Carlos Villanueva showreel? My two penneth worth, I think (from my limited knowledge) that he’s a good prospect and at 19 years old he has time to develop. If we are paying in excess of £5m though i would expect someone a bit more proven, Grabban and Bamford have gone for similar figures and are more established players.

  39. Dreadful post. It's an MB where people offer opinion, however ill-informed. And I've seen him play.

  40. Also Venkys tend to be at one extreme or another, If they pay up big-time for a player and he doesn't justify the fee then they will likely freeze the funding and go back to loans and freebies. Mowbray will know he has to be careful, he can't take their support for granted, they are nothing if not erratic.

  41. If we sign a player for £6 million in our circumstances he would have to be the first name on the team sheet every week and a player who was actually better than Dack, Mulgrew, Armstrong or Lenihan, not potentially better.

  42. I felt like the reason we were so poor in the first half v Millwall was not the number of defensively minded players, but more so the individual performances of those players. The horrendous ball retention of Evans and Smallwood in particular, as well as the lack of protection they provided was the reason that we were under pressure. I believe we can play without a defensive winger in games, and still not play with wreckless abandon.

  43. I thought the one he cracked with Sir Alf Ramsey was funny. Ramsey said to him " Give it all you've got in the the first period Rodney and I'll pull you off at half time " . Marsh replied " Bloody hell Alf, we only get oranges at City ! " I don't think he played much for England after that. We're talking in an era when there were a lot of match winners like him. Stan Bowles, Charlie George, Alan Hudson, Frank Worthington, Tony Currie just name a few. All immensely skilled attacking players, we don't breed them like that any more. Even our own Duncan McKenzie was special in that respect. That's why I like Dack, he plays with a smile on his face and looks like he wants to actually be out there.
