  3. There’s absolutely no need to be cautious with him, we aren’t throwing him out to operate on a child, get him in the squad and throw him on as an unknown quantity. He’s got the potential let’s harness it rather than wasting a couple of seasons

  4. Hell fire why does he make every question over complicated, it would do my head right in if I had to interview him. Imagine Mrs Mowbrays life. What would you like for tea darling? Well we could have steak love but not sure we have enough chips and them jacket potatoes could be a little bit past their best, or they could be spot on. We could have it well done but that might take one of my Peggy's out if its too tough, its its rare though there's always the concern it will drip blood on my white Farah polo top though. You decide sweetheart.

  5. I think it’s ridiculous that you seem absolutely fixated on an unquantifiable, bollocks statistic when assessing our right back. By your logic, Brereton contributed nothing to JRC’s goal yesterday. Despite the fact he ran the ball into a dangerous area and put the cross over, it took two players and a few defensive mishaps for the ball to end up in the net. He won’t be credited with the assist, but he was instrumental in the goal. You fail to acknowledge our strikers aren’t often in positions to get on the end of crosses. You fail to acknowledge Nyambe stays back for every single set piece... maybe because there is no simple statistic that you can trot out to suit your narrative. Here’s a decent one from last season... Points per game when Nyambe didn’t start: 1.25 Points per game when Nyambe did start: 1.54 I think you are preparing yourself for him leaving, in the knowledge he is in his final year and Mowbray seems to scapegoat him, so you can say ”I said all along we should get rid Nyambe he not assists enough”

  6. Mulgrew and his public outburst indicates to me that an impasse has been reached and there is no going back. However he holds all the ace cards with one year left on his deal worth around £750k to him. The options are for him to sit on the contract, take a settlement to cancel his contract and become a free agent or go out on loan for the season. From Rovers perspective the loan option would at least give a return on his wages albeit a small one. From Mowbrays position I can't see him wanting to keep the influential senior professional at the club when he has publicly undermined him. Underpinning all that though to me was the decision to give a three year deal worth over £2m to a 32 year old with a history of injury.

  7. I think it's because Chaddy has an aversion to not towing the party line rather than trying to be right. It looks like TM doesn't rate him (and has treated him.absymally for 3 seasons now) so to support the club he rips on Nayambe. Have to say basics first with defenders - they need to defend. The clue is in the name. Assists etc are all well and good - even if they can be counted - but first and foremost keeping the ball out of the net. Nayambe has athleticism that cannot be taught, is defensively canny and any other manager would be delighted to have him in a championship team. Problem is he is a scapegoat for all our issues - wide strikers who prefer to be inside and Mr Bennett who can't hold down a position. If we lose him as well for a minimal fee it will be another TM cock up.

  8. Surely it was for boy wonder John Buckley. Why else would such a talent not even make the bench for a League Cup game against League 1 opposition?

  10. I’m ready to get really revisionist. L1 - the attackers we faced were crap and he’d have been nothing without Downing - a proper centre back for that level. Charlie don’t jump. Raya was stopping absolutely everything too. That promotion was about Raya, Smallwood, Dack and Graham. So we then gave the CLUB CAPTAIN a new contract and a chance to lead us into the Championship. He was absolutely shite. Times up sorry Charlie. Just face it like a man and don’t disrespect the club that gave you a lifeline and plenty of international caps for longer than you deserved. Dick.

  11. We all were? I was just relieved to get out quickly and fair play to everyone involved for achieving it. But I certainly didn’t see coming second in the third division as something to crow about or something the players or managers should live off in perpetuity.

  12. Knowing our luck he'll score 2 against us first day of the season then get sold a couple of days after.

  13. I liked him as a player. But this is an example of everything I hate about football. Modern footballers are so detached from reality it’s unbelievable. He’ll earn more in a month than I do in a year for 1% of the effort. Ironically, Mowbray (presumably who it was aimed at) showed far too much loyalty to him with that ridiculous extension for a player who’s ready for the scrap heap. Plus from what I gather his own loyalty didn’t stretch that far to Aberdeen when Celtic came knocking.

  15. It's not a diversion I just find it very strange as to why you are so worried about our best defender not scoring goals or assisting goals and yet you are a rather vocal backer of a £7 Million striker with 2 goals in 2 years. I suspect were Nyambe to have signed a new 5 year contract by now then would be singing his praises about what a good defender he is. Bbut because he is out of contract you are laying your ground work so that you can back Mowbray and say Nyambe isn't a loss if were to leave.

  17. Funny you should mention the 94-95 season... I’ve just had a look at the stats for that season. Have a guess how many assists Jason Wilcox was credited with? 4 (four). I couldn’t possibly provide any better evidence to show that assist stats are utter bollocks.

  18. How did Fulham get promoted if full back Dennis Odoi only got 1 assist? I don't understand it.

  19. I think Brereton has a very low bar for people to judge and whilst he has looked better recently his mediocrity is now replaced by average in my view. I honestly don't see enough in his positional sense, movement, touch, aggression and general skill level to cut it as a regular Championship play and goalscorer. I really hope I'm wrong as we could do with 15 - 20 goals from him next season.

  20. I personally think he does have the ability. However, his attitude and general approach to himself and his fitness says he’ll be in the lower leagues (if playing football at all) sooner rather than later.

  21. Well at least that clears that up then...

  22. Some back tracking going on now it seems, stupid man. Although i don't get why some twisted it that he's having a dig at fans but i suppose it fits the modern narrative of offended. To me it was always clearly a dig at his bosses at the club.

  23. Fulham benefited from him learning the game from Smallwood and Evans. ?

  24. He was, now Fulham have done a deal to get him permanently. Amazing that a newly promoted Premier League side see enough to splash the cash on him yet he wasn't good enough for our midfield.

  25. Harrison Reed joined Fulham on a permanent deal following their promotion. I expect him to be quickly sent out on loan to 3rd division Hull so he can learn some more from Richie Smallwood.

  26. You've spent the last 2 years in cloud cuckoo land mate. He has been awful for most of his spell here, and shown little in regards to skill. At the end of last year, in his "improved form" since lockdown, he had one game where I would class him as good. Someone corrected me when I said this last week that in fact he had two good games. Woohoo, Now yesterday he did ok in the second half, helpled by his contribution to both goals. Keep that up for a couple of months and I will revise my opinion on him. However we bought him as a striker and he will never be a 12 goal a season man. He's happiest running with the ball, but almost wants to knock it past the defenders out wide and charge past them. Everybody wants him to do well and score goals. But people are now marking up his performances because they want him to do well, rather than based on what he actually does.

  27. This season presents an absolutely unique opportunity to blood young players. Probably the only benefit to playing in empty grounds is the fact players like Dolan can be introduced without getting overawed. Manage him effectively, and I’m not just talking Mowbray here, the senior players, coaches, his parents and all support staff play a part. Make sure he stays grounded, if he has a rough patch keep him off social media, be careful with him, but get him playing. The lad looks the real deal.

  28. Chaddy you seem more worried about goals and assists from our right back than you do goals from our £7 Million striker who has 2 goals in 2 years. Nyambe is a defender his main aim is to keep the ball out, its the attacker's whose main job's are to score and create goals.
    4 points
  29. I would rather he had a more attacking threat, but as long as the defender defends well that's the main thing. Henning Berg played right back to win the premier league in 1995 and maybe got one assist all season (?) You wouldn't say that wasn't good enough as he was a key cog in a solid defensive unit. The usual comeback to that is that the game has changed and you need assists from both your full backs nowadays, but Fulham have just proved that you don't. Just as West Brom have just proved you don't need to shoe-horn left footers into your defensive or midfield paternerships for 'balance', another over-complicated myth. Is Nyambe the best denfensive full back we have? Clearly yes in my opinion (although I wouldn't my say he's a great player, more the others are poorer) If we replace him with a better defender then fine. But first and foremost he has to defend. Who is better going forward between Bell and Nyambe? Who is the better full back? It's. It not even close.

  31. Ah yes, blaming Breretons failings on "abusive" fans. He has never got abuse hurled at him from the stands. Lets not make out that hes constantly abused. You dont need to be an expert to conclude that so far he has shown very, very little bar 2 goals in 2 dead rubbers. And posting criticism on an internet messageboard is the place to do it.

  32. So it's the fan fault that he has mustered 2 goal's in 2 years? There was me thinking that it was him not being good enough and Mowbray for paying well above his worth but how stupid of me of course it is the fans fault. If a bit of stick from fans for his performance's are going to reduce his chances of coming to something, then he obviously doesn't have the right mentality to be a striker. I'd also dispute that the fans have been hostile to him I think that they have been remarkably patient and offered a lot of good will to him, he'd have certainly got a lot more stick from supporters at other clubs.

  35. Why don't the club do their bit and sell season tickets? I'll buy one of them for £300+ and they get 100% of it

  36. Just seen the highlights - some powder puff defending from Lenihan and dreadful mistake I think by Bell. The goalkeeper could have done better too. Glaring deficencies from last season still not addressed and we won't make "progress" until they are

  37. Apart from we spent nearly that on Ben Brereton and well over that figure in the last two summers. Mowbray himself played Reed out of position and said he had to learn from Smallwood. I didn't. He missed games this year due to injury. If he had been fit he would have played more.

  38. Kyle Bartley is nothing special, if I was Kipre I’d be fancying my chances of forcing my way into that West Brom side, premier league football and double the wages he’d get here, as soon as West Brom showed interest in him we were done for.

  39. He isn't the only one the sound of familiar distant PR drums are beating on this one. A few of us have suspected for ages the first bid that comes in he'll be sold. The dropping of him sometimes has been very head scratching. Yet we are told Bennett just fills in there when Ryan is injured when it clearly hasn't been the case. TM to be fair has backed that up occasionally. If he's in his final year and won't sign then maybe they are right to phase him out. To me though whilst he's here and he's the best right back he should play, end of. That's what he's paid for. If he downs tools at any stage then fair enough boot him right down the pecking order

  40. I don’t particularly buy the lines that have been fed to J*B, but if that’s what they are going with then tell the fanbase. It’s September on Tuesday and we’ve had one statement since March (and that was a tweaked EFL press release about ifollow for ST holders). Just piss poor communication.

  41. Re: Brereton. In the current market, I'd say a 21yo English striker justifying a £6m price tag needs to score 10+ per season. Anything above that increases their price. I think he can get there with actual game time imo. Trouble is, I think Gallagher, for his faults, is a clearer focal point.

  42. Good heavens, Chaddy. That's a bit picky isn't it? Or is the word pedantic?

  43. Brereton is not a goal scorer and never will be, I'm still not convinced he is a footballer. We can quite easily get Dack in his best position and still get Armstrong and Holby on the pitch.

  44. 1) They are being highly optimistic if they think we are only going to be a few hundred down on last season. 2) ’Don’t want to do the admin’, neatly sums up the operation down there this past decade. 3) Ok, so we put them on sale in, say, November ready for the transfer window, my answer to 1) becomes even more relevant as they are in cloud cuckoo land if they think they are selling decent numbers with fans almost a year out of the ground and a very real threat of a second wave mixed in with winter flu season (nevermind what state the job market will be in).

  45. In fairness I really don't think Chapman's lack of progress is down to Mowbray. At the start of last season his performance levels for the Under-23s were dreadful for a young lad trying to make an impression. Sadly, the impression he made was the sort that would not endear him to any manager. His attitude was in stark contrast to the likes of Smallwood or Graham when they turned out for the Under-23s and took a professional pride in their performance. Ironically, his better games were often when he was playing a more central role. I think it's his lack of workrate that has held him back when playing out wide. Wide players have to get back and defend as its simply part of the role of being a winger today - indeed, has been for many years. Sadly, Chapman doesn't seem to have the ability or will to do this. Maybe the injuries have taken something from him but at the moment he looks a long way from a Championship player.

  46. On the face of it if West Brom are also interested in kipre we have no chance. But the way to sell it to him would be instead of sitting on the bench every week at West Brom you will play every week at rovers. Hope the lessons have been learnt from Patrick Bauer where nobend sold it as building a defence round him and we sold it that he might eventually get in ahead of Derrick Williams once learned the Mowbray ethos.

  47. The one indisputable fact from yesterday. The Doncaster Rovers half time team talk was a gazillion times better than Mowbray's.

  48. I don’t think you’re understanding.... Managers usually have the player kept away from the first team, full stop as well as scheduling extra training etc which forces the player out. Both Mulgrew and Smallwood have spent the last 12-18 months sat on their arses, picking up wages AFTER the manager told them they weren’t in the picture. But during that rime they haven’t been shut away from the first team. On the contrary, they’ve been a part of everything. One of those players acted with dignity, took his wages and accepted the managers decision whilst appreciating not being jettisoned. Trained all week with the first team and then played for 23’s. The there’s the curious case of Charlie Mulgrew. Clear enough?
