Liverpool keen to hang on to defender Sepp van der Berg https://mol.im/a/11109607 via http://dailym.ai/android

Seems we curse defenders with injuries merely by being interested in loaning a player from their team. This should be harnessed as a superpower.

Said this days ago, I don't see how Liverpool are gonna release him unless Matips injury is only very short term as they're already without Konate.

It may have scuppered our plans somewhat as we're not in a position to wait now. We need someone in now who's had a pre season and ideally have played a few games, might mean dipping into league 1 again....

I think a lot depends on the size of squad Tomasson wants to be left with long term, rather than worrying about the here and now. If he sees Carter as one for this season, we're unlikely to be looking for more than one defender.

I've no idea what size of squad he used at Malmo, but it might give an indication of how many he may want in before the window closes.

If you rely on loans to fill up your squad then you are entirely at the behest of the loaning club as to when that player will be made available. The loan is just as much for their benefit as it is Rovers.

If we are now at risk of going to Reading and Sheffield without reinforcements because we are waiting on Liverpool then we need to move on and we need to quickly get some permanent business done

We cannot allow momentum to be disrupted by this.

JDT has always said the team is more important from day one including in his first meeting with the players, the media and he mention most interviews.

Trying to make an issue out about a small part of the detail which is probably that if he doesn't play we pay more of his wages and he does play we pay less. If JDT wants him and think he will be key player for us then lets get sign up ASAP

Sheffield United game is on Saturday

Pity the trains aren't

Any signings have to be right for the long term, not dictated by panic stricken claims about the next game.

4 weeks ago you were telling us that we were throwing away the first few games of the season by not getting enough players in whereas apparently well run clubs like Bristol City and Middlesbrough were showing us how we should be doing it. Have a look at the league table.

I wouldn’t want to be running out at Reading with a back four of Buckley, Phillips, Pickering and Edun.

Wait a second it wasn't long ago that you thought we wouldn't make any cash signings at all this summer but we have, and you and some others were worried that we would throw away these 7 first games cos we haven't made enough signings, well JDT and the players have proven that definitely wrong haven't they?

Brittain was only taken off due to heat exhaustion so he should feature on Wednesday, if we can get SVDB over the line in the next couple of days that should take the squeeze off a little.

We'd then potentially be able to line up with Brittain, Phillips, SVDB and Pickering. Ayala would be a huge bonus in that back-line of course, but he'll need a well-deserved rest after yesterday.

If we don't get SVDB this week, then things do become interesting.

Ash Phillips is looking great so far, it's all quite bittersweet though.

I love how he's performing well for us, but with him not signing the contract yet and the big dogs lurking - it really puts a dampener on it.

Hopefully he shows some loyalty to the team that nurtured him and signs a long contract - then if he turns out to be as good as expected, a big PL team should have no issue paying the large fee for him.

Plus, he may end up playing PL football with us if he sticks about!

I was referring to a loan signing. That can't be for the long term by its very definition. Either it happens when we need it to or we move on.

The injury situation and lack of incomings has the potential to derail an excellent start to the season. We got away with it yesterday due to a monumental physical effort but we need bodies quickly - everyone knows that none more so than the manager. So hopefully things will move quickly rather than adopting the "we're just fine and don't need to do anything" attitude.

So panic then.

I don't think it's panic or unreasonable to ask Liverpool and the player are you coming or not because we need you now.  Then move on to the next target quickly and hope to get that done.

It's about Blackburn Rovers not Liverpool or the player and if we lose momentum because of dithering around upstairs over a loan player it could send us on a difficult run.

Unreal start, granted, but no prizes are given out in August. The injury list dictates the need to be active in the transfer market quickly.

Also, I think it’s possible to want us to supplement our strong start with additional players quickly to alleviate the current injury situation without panicking….

The only loyalty in football is to their bank manager.
