Rovers will continue their search for a new set piece coach after the struggles in that department during the 2022/23 season.

Director of football Gregg Broughton pinpointed as it an area to improve, with Rovers second bottom for goals scored from set pieces.

They also shipped five goals from set plays in the run-in, and they will look to address that with the addition of a specialist in that area.

Goalkeeping coach Ben Benson has largely been entrusted with set piece organisation, a regular fixture on the touchline issuing instructions

i did`nt know that,so nearly 8 months without a defensive/set piece coach, for a professional club at our level it defies belief, another greg masterstroke to go with his crap scouting, just what does he and kimberley do???

I like jdt but as mental as it sounds my biggest concern about it is just why is he still here?

done dirty by owners which there seems to have always been a bit of niggle between

can leave and get a much better run club, rep is still in tact

no money to spend so things are only going to get worse here

fans seem to be turning on him

no loyalty to the club as he didn’t play for us

does he look happy? Not to me

so all in all, why? And the only conclusion I can come up with is that he is only here for the money. We need somebody who is going to stick up for the club and not just accept the nonsense from the owners. We also need somebody who can put a rocket up these players , they aren’t playing to their potential the last few weeks. Who is actually playing well?

In a couple of weeks he’ll do an interview in which he smiles a lot, talks about challenges and how he’s been  chasing a player we’ve never heard of for 6 months.

Then that’s him done till Summer.

i don`t think jdt is short of a bob or two,he`s played for big clubs all his career, though i am expecting him to announce he`s off when the season is coming to an end,in car sales parlance he`s been sold a dog that has sawdust in the gearbox🙂😒

He’s got another season after that. I’m still amazed they gave Mowbray money and a guy that finished just outside of the play off places in his first season has had to work with the likes of Mola and Telalovic.

I thought today was one of the most concerning matches I've seen at Ewood in a long time. We're more of a threat to ourselves at the minute than the opposition. Huddersfield should and could have scored 3 with ease.

We look lost, confused and are playing some appalling stuff.

Set pieces are always reflective of coaching on the training ground. Those numbers do not reflect well on Tomasson at all.

I don’t think it’s just how we defend set pieces either. I don’t remember our set pieces ever being this poor before.

Passing out from the back we played ourselves into trouble twice, and fortunately got away with it, before we then scored thanks to Huddersfield. We scored after about just 8 minutes!

They scored from a corner due to atrocious defending and we continued to gift gilt edge chances.

On another day we could have been hammered.

I think it sums up the circus when Harry Leonard went out to warm up twice after we'd made 5 subs.

Everyone's heads have gone - management and players - it needs a change.

There is the possibility (although I would certainly not bet my house on it) that Leonard was "warming up" in order to pass instructions to the players on the pitch

Or more likely, he was simply cold and wanted to be warmer

I don't remember our set pieces being anything other than terrible since Mulgrew left.  Although he did spoil us.

Speaking of Mulgrew, he wants to get into management/coaching, surely he could do a job as a set piece coach?

I don't think he speaks very highly of the club, so I doubt it

100%.

What sort of a DOF maintains radio silence during a transfer window?

which other director of football gives interviews during a transfer window? Please could you answer this simple question

I wouldn’t trust the bloke as far as I could throw him, but he will justify his silence by saying he is waiting for the Window to end.

The whole set up is just absolute garbage, and the taps being turned off just makes our vanity project even more ludicrous.

What the current situation cries out for is a pragmatist, who is completely focussed on getting results.

Broughton or that kind of manager?
Not a difficult choice.

Won’t happen and we just have to hope the current leeway from the bottom three saves us.

No the whole set up isn't garbage but its how a modern day football set up with DoF and Head coach set up. Most teams at PL and Championship level have that set up.

No, what our situation requires is some new signings to given quality to the squad and depth of the squad.

jdt`s problem is he wants the kind of football that requires players who are out of our price range,to make that team shape work he needs at least 30 million quid,he is`nt going to get it here, thus he needs to adapt his tactics

He did adapt our formation yesterday by playing 3-5-2 formation. Did you not see that?

Leonard was just doing his warm down before the game ends

My comment was aimed at personnel in the set up at Rovers at this time (ie Waggott and Broughton), rather than at the DOF model in general.

I do think an experienced manager, with good contacts, is more appropriate when you are skint, or perhaps a DOF with more experience of transfer dealings in this country, (eg a former manager).

I don't blame Tomasson, but he isn't the manager, and he isn't the right fit for our current circumstances.

If the club changed the set - up tomorrow, you would be on here saying it was the right decision.

The chances of us making some good signings before Feb 2nd are remote.

These owners will never get it right.

If you still can't see that, you never will.

You say you have a positive take on life, but it just looks silly and naive when you allow that to affect your judgement about the current state of Blackburn Rovers, and then try to ram that down everyone's throat.

This ‘positive mindset’ thing is half the problem with those you see defending the owners on social media.

I get that Twitter etc can be toxic places, but there has been an overcorrection now to where you cannot say anything deemed ‘negative’ against the status quo, indeed they would be wounded to be called ‘negative’, it would go against their whole online persona so they double down. ‘Be kind’ and all that (yet they’ve no problem being unkind to you if you point out their naivety).

A real ‘positive mindset’ would be demanding change, wanting a new dawn for this grand old institution not blindly defending an ownership that has ruined their football club.

Yeah quite surprising when most of our fan base got wound up by Mowbrays love for playing Benno 🤣

There's been so much strangeness and at times a total inversion of reality over the last 13 years.

I still think one of the strangest has to be how Tony Mowbray, a man with less personality than a pile of rotting sea weed, had such a massive personality cult amongst the fan base.

I don't think I'll ever not be completely baffled by that one.

That's our lot.

It was no secret too. The big worry is that Waggott seems to get most things wrong. Let’s hope that his expectations of survival were not.

It's the same at pretty much all of the clubs he's managed to be fair. Even those fanbases who agreed it was time for him to go still hold him in high regard as a person. His 'working class, man of the people' persona evidently resonates with a lot of supporters. I think we were in a somewhat unique position with Mowbray as this is the only club he's been at where his decisions and results had no impact on whether he'd remain in post or not. That inevitably causes some resentment to build up within what's left of the more ambitious sections of the fanbase, but we're in a situation now where many of our fans feel like this is our level and are grateful to be in the Championship, so as long as Mowbray kept us in a decent position he was alright. For our younger fans he was also the only manager to ever bring any actual success in their time of supporting the club, albeit a promotion from a league we should never have been in.

15th, 11th, 15th, 8th.

it was the promotion from L1 that the goodwill comes from.

On social media I’m seeing people saying we did better under Mowbray than JDT. When we had two absolutely dire seasons finishing 15th after millions spent. During both of those seasons many fans wanted him sacked.
