I don't think many thought Carter nor Magloire were the answer in January.

If you want to criticize, it would be playing Douglas on right back instead of Pike who has been the standout player in the U23 and deserves his chance.

So, playing well at U23s is better than  playing well in league 1..?..you contradict yourself.

How did you get there? Obviously not. The discussion was whether is was right to loan HB and JB in January, when you could've used Carter and Magloire instead.

But you followed with Pike should play instead of Douglas because he did well at 23s....I'm saying our lads out in loan should be playing instead of JB and HB

Part of the statement of former Rovers Reserves captain, Lewis Hardcastle, who recently retired, aged 22:

“As some of you may know already, I have been diagnosed with a genetic heart condition called Arrhythmogenic Right Ventricular Cardiomyopathy (ARVC) which has been brought on early due to a high level of exercise,” Hardcastle wrote in an emotional post on social media.

“For a while I was feeling faint at training and this also happened while driving. I went for many investigations and had a say at a specialist heart hospital in Liverpool for a few days on a heart monitor.

“I was started on medications to regulate my heart, however, sadly this was not enough as my heart rate was reaching dangerous levels.

“My doctor broke the news no footballer or young athlete should ever hear, he told me my case was so severe that I needed an ICD implanted into my heart to save my life.

“He advised that it would be unsafe to play football again due to the risk of me having a cardiac arrest.

“My life is worth than football and I could not put my family through the worry of watching me knowing that something could happen.”

Yes Pike should've played right-back that one game where Douglas was moved from left-back to right-back. In fairness Douglas did ok, but Pike deserved his chance.

You are claiming HB and JB should not been loaned and instead betting on Carter and Magloire. That decision was taken in January when we were still chasing play-offs.

Magloire had just returned from a loan spell in Non-league. Carter had a few games for the U23. Not sure many thought they would make a better options than bringing in two top prospects from PL highly rated by Pep and Ancelotti and with more experience.

You can always argue now that after the fact, but it seems a bit pointless. Carter and Magloire have probably gained more experience on loan and are returning better players than they would've staying around.

I've been watching Motherwell's highlights in the last few games and, whilst Magloire has been starting and been part of a team on a decent run, it seems to me (based on the very limited evidence) that he hasn't quite found top form yet. It may be inexperience and hopefully, he grows into the role. Incidentally, their striker, Devante Cole, is the son of Andy Cole. Some of the finishes I've seen by him remind me of his dad.

On the Branthwaite signing - it may have been an opportunist/desperation signing, not knowing who else might become available. However, I don't think it made sense to sign two very young loanee defenders with hardly any first team experience. I would have signed one and sought to either utilise Nyambe, Magloire or Carter as back-up - or signed a more experienced loanee, if one was available.

I agree and they should both be starting next season.

Spot on.  And the fact we are near relegation proves it.

Butterworth back training with the 1st team squad. Hopefully this time he can stay fit and make an impact.

Hopefully, yes. But honestly, I said before his latest setback that I didn't think he is ever going to get past being one of 'those players' who are almost permanently injured. I got a bit of flak for it actually, and then a couple of weeks or so later he was injured again. He has had a lot go wrong at a young age, and back problems rarely just go away. It's not impossible of course, and best of luck to him. He has always sounded like he can be a real player if he does manage to overcome it, and we all want that.

I dont think we should have signed 2 kids and indeed a more experienced player would have made more sense in January to fix a problem entirely avoidable much earlier, but surely Carter and Magloire benefit more from playing every week elsewhere rather than sticking around as an at that time unknown quantity of a back up?

Really gut-wrenching for Hardcastle.

Important thing is obviously being able to live, but he'll have invested so much time and sacrifice into the game as his career path, and the rug has been pulled from under his feet. Hope he can figure out another path and way of life. Good luck, Lewis.

On a more optimistic note, I'm glad his condition has been found early and treatment has been carried out. It's better than collapsing and dying on a football pitch. As you say, good luck, Lewis.

Speaking as someone who actually had a heart attack on a football pitch he is a lucky lad. I imagine he will receive a reasonable insurance pay off to set him up for whatever he decides to do with his life. So he is lucky in that respect too, though on either count I doubt it will feel that way to him at the moment.

Mowbray said he wasn't playing our young CB's because it was a 'man's position' for seasoned Pro's, or words to that effect. He then signed Branthwaite and HB.

I can never work out if he's dishonest, or just making it up as he goes along.

No commissions to be gained from playing our academy lads....just saying

Still young too, so plenty of time to change tack. I still didn't know what I wanted to do at 21, so he is on an even par with me at that age.

Is that Holland by chance?😉

You'll be calling The Rovers, Blackburn next....

Holland is actually just a region of the Netherlands, which is the official name of the country. Some Dutch also use the term to describe the whole country, but some actually find it offensive.

I don't know if you already knew that.

If that is accurate, 2 assists this season might be revealing as to an area where Pike could improve as a right back.

The very few times I've seen him, his style of play has reminded me of Jay McEveley, the left back who broke through under Souness. He's not the quickest or most technical but a very tough, strong competitor.

I do hope he gets a chance and continues to develop as he's been a mainstay in a successful U23 season.

With Nyambe possibly going, I do hope that a fast defender is sought out or that Pickering is just that.

I am not so much bothered if the defender is fast, what I want is a good defender. I don't get your logic with Nyambe and Pickering as they play in different positions.
