[Archived] Transfer Talk Part 4

Is this information you're privy too credible? That rumour has been knocking around for almost a month on various websites etc...

Well I won't say were I got the info from as last time I provided some info I got beat with a stick. However mate, Lambert actively looking at him, won't be able to sign him until Jan though as he's with Swindon.

Touché. Have at times wondered if we swapped them back last year. Still need more quality there for me.

True but if we are looking to strengthen by very limited means then other areas come first for me. If it was a case of a big bid and the money being used in other areas then maybe as I'd trust Lambert but we don't want to flog him to raise cash then put Spurr back as no one choice.

Derby and Clement are no mugs so they must see something in him. If you wanted a quick attacking full back in this div then are there many actually better than him I wonder ? Maybe Lambo likes a solid, static back four.

O'Sullivan signs a new deal.

Might get a chance under Lambert, hope so anyway.

I will eat my hat if O'Sullivan makes it for us. Nothing against the lad personally but I haven't seen anything from him which suggests he can make an impression at Championship level.

I quite like him. Lots of energy and direct. It's no wonder he didn't fit in GB 's plans.

Its a funny one with O'Sullivan.

He signed a new contract as recently as March or April which keeps him at Ewood until the end of this season. After that I expected him to feature quite frequently this season as the embargo limited our options, yet he has been barely seen under Bowyer.

Suddenly Lambert arrives and he gets a new deal, despite Lambert only being here for a week and him not even making the bench at Preston on Saturday.

I do wonder if this was another like Corry Evans where the groundwork had been done before and the offer was on the table, and the arrival of the new manager has prompted O'Sullivan into getting it signed. I can't believe Lambert would start offering new contracts out to peripheral players like O'Sullivan without having a good look at him first and seeing what he can offer.

I'm not disappointed though. I like O'Sullivan and would like to see him and Lenihan given more opportunities in the first team.

O'Sullivan's comments

"Blackburn is like home to me as I've been here since I was 15," said O'Sullivan. "So I'm just happy it is all done now and I can get my head down and concentrate on my football.
"We were talking about the new deal before the new manager came in, so it is a bit of a confidence booster as he could have said no. So hopefully he sees a bit of potential in me."
The Academy graduate has come through the ranks at Rovers, before enjoying loan spells at Southport, Accrington Stanley and Barnsley.
O'Sullivan has six senior appearances for Rovers to date, with his aim now to impress Paul Lambert after enjoying the first week under the new boss.
"I'm looking forward to working with the new manager now, he has ideas that suit me so hopefully he'll give me a chance in the long run," added the 22-year-old.
"The training has been tough, but it has been different, and the tempo of training has been outstanding. I think we needed that just a little bit to give us the lift that we needed.
"I think on Saturday we showed a lot more work-rate than we had previously because of the week's training we had with the new gaffer. It has been tough, but it has been very good.
"My job now is to make it difficult for him to leave me out of the team. I have that comfort now that I have a bit of time to show him what kind of player I am, and hopefully he likes me and gives me a chance."

The Chief Scout is a vital position in any club. Would be interesting to know scale of Tommy Johnson's input in Rovers' player dealings over last 15 months.

Lambert will no doubt want a man whose judgement he completely trusts in this area. We will probably soon know if Johnson is that man.

Ewan Chester is someone Lambert worked with at Norwich and he's reputed to have good international connections - could be one to watch.

Don't know if it counts for anything but Lambert and Johnson were team mates whilst at Celtic. That might mean they have similar views and ideas.

Yeah and it bears out what I said earlier about players only doing what they're made to do. Sounds like they all knew things needed to change but nobody wanted to rock the boat. Asking to come back for extra training, shooting practice etc. Like I said players are their own worst enemies, but then you can't put an old head on young shoulders can you.

I totally agree with then. Chief Scout is a very important position within a football club at any level

I think it will be interested to see what other changes Lamberts makes behind the scenes

Training might well have increased in intensity but you will never find a player that says 'nah, training was miles harder under the previous manager'.

It's a cliche that players roll out to keep in favour with the new gaffer. Oldest quote in the book.

I'm not a great fan of centre backs playing full back. On the right or left side of a back three is OK, purely at full back not so good. For every time it's been a success I could name nine failures. Full back is a specialised position. Not many guys with the physique to play centre half have the pace and nimbleness to play full back.

Having said that I haven't seen much of Henry. Maybe he can play there. Time will tell.

David May, Henning Berg didn't do too bad.

Looks like two deals that were already in the pipeline before Paul Lambert came in imagine he didn't have much of a say but it raises the question sadly once again will he have a say in who comes in or just play nodding dog to the guys who control the players in and out.
