Been on a day out to Derby. Great day out and good result.

Decent first half , would have been 4 up if Gallagher was half decent, he really is atrocious, if we hadn't paid £5m for him he'd probably struggle to get a game in League 2.

Insipid second half bur then again Derby never really threatened until they scored on 87 mins. After that we went to pieces and CKR should really have equalised in injury time.

3 points, move on 26 to go.

Phew! Injury time was a difficult listen on the radio. I was expecting us to blow it once again. They hit the post, Kazim Richards missed a big chance. Talk about being on edge. Luckily we hung on this time. It should never have got that close though.

Happy to take the 3 points. Let's try and sting Fulham next.

Good win, and possibly as good a demonstration as you could get as to the current state of Rovers.

First half, brilliant. Should have been 4 or 5 up. Brereton with 2 goals, should have done better with another good chance and very typically unorthodox and clumsy but effective at the same time. Dolan fairly quiet today, as was Rothwell really. Gallagher is generally a really poor player, he is (aside from height at set pieces) useless when we are winning because he loses the ball basically every time, horrendous touch, can't hold the ball up, and it just keeps coming back. Yet he isn't a total write off, when we are on top early in games, he is a real nuisance, full of running power, he isn't a good finisher but he will chip in, such a strange player.

I thought the change to bring Johnson in by the manager was a wise one and he did give us some stability and allowed Travis off the leash somewhat, I am not convinced that Travis suits being the deepest midfielder because he can be a bit ill disciplined and chaotic. Edun I like, I feel like the 2 signings in the summer have turned left back from a position of worry where we had Bell who could barely control a ball and Douglas who was forever out of position to 2 good technical and trustworthy options. The 2 centre backs put their body on the line although both were guilty of being drawn out once too often, Ayala is a miss. Buckley is blatantly not a right back, tried his best and good assist but an obvious weak point throughout, and Kaminski made a couple of comfortable saves, helpless for the goal and poor again with his kicking.

The game management needs to improve, total chaos in the end, and a lack of experience and also of depth in the squad makes it really difficult. Poveda and Khadra were signed purely because they are cheap and you can see that, both are so inexperienced, Khadra cost us the free kick for the first goal with a stupid foul, it was a hectic game to come in to and I am not sure that any of the other subs would have helped either.

Fair play to Mowbray too, this squad is not the 7th best so he is getting a decent tune out of it, but that outlook could look different at the end of the week. Lives and dies by his results, we won today so that is the most important thing.

Good post, agree with all of it really.

Maybe Davenport would have been the sub, but I get why he brought on attackers.

Is this pay on the day and how much, anyone know ?

One of those games this we'll either show up and have a go or they'll be under instruction to sit back, stop the opposition, pass sideways and create nothing.

Probably the latter seeing as he was so pleased with the last away showing that yielded nowt. Just have a ###### go man.

Derby  1    Rovers  2

Today kind of reinforces my points.

Why oh why he messes about with it so much i'll never know as a similar effort at QPR would surely have got something more.

Should have been out of sight first half but to be fair we aren't going top boss many games away for 90 mins.  So that's a great result and credit to team and manager, nobody should be disappointed with that.  I think they were forced back second half rather than sat back and the usual 60+ mins get some legs on for the sake of it was resisted today.

Wonder if he'll consider switching positions? The player market is far kinder to attacking full backs than central midfielders without a goal threat.

Excellent three points on the road though, albeit against a side in a terrible position both literally and figuratively. JPvH and Edun look like solid replacement players at this stage, certainly preferable to using out of position youth team players. Still seeing this as Mowbray keeping up his record of having about as many wins, draws, and losses at the end of the season, but I'll still enjoy the win!

Absolutely delighted with the win. Whatever happens with the owners, Mowbray or anything this is why we put up with it all, win then enjoy a beer. Awesome first half, then Derby didn't really do masses in the second but we seemed scared to put a foot on the ball. Although Derby had lots of the ball I still wouldn't say it was "backs to the wall" barring injury time to be honest.

We simply ran out of bodies towards the end, so absolutely fair does to the boys for holding out. The subs looked like rabbits in headlights unfortunately!

I still prefer Buckley in centre midfield. From people at the game they say he was our best player today

Derby on decent run of form and think Rooney has done well under very difficult circumstances.

Buckley at right back - think the lad will wonder wtf is going on this afternoon.  Mentally and physically in for a very hard time.

Buckley was excellent today according to fans at the game.

Good win today Mercer?

Feel sorry for Santa today

I wouldn’t give the gaffer too much credit for bringing Johnson on. With Naymbe out and JRC not fit he had no choice but to play Buckley at right back. It was either Clarkson or Johnson to play central. I’ll give home credit for not choosing Clarkson as he’s looked out of his depth…now that I type that wonder why he didn’t fancy Clarkson

It isn't fair to criticise him when he does something wrong yet refuse to give out credit when he gets it right.

Had Clarkson played and struggled, the manager would correctly be criticised. Davenport was also an option but he tends to be pretty poor when he features.

I watched the full game and certainly don't think he was our best player, indeed the fact that he is clearly not a right back was evident, and they had much more joy out of Buckley than they did against Edun. Buckley in his defence is not a right back and never will be, and he hardly had a torrid afternoon and wasn't a liability like he usually is there, plus he was comfortable on the ball as you would expect, but I hope that Nyambe is back v Fulham.

I think there is a decision to be made assuming that we can slot someone else in at right back v Fulham. Johnson added stability to the midfield and that could be the order of the day against a quality Fulham side. Does it then become Rothwell OR Buckley, of which the former would be the obvious choice?

First half Derby didn't turn up for whatever reason. We could and probably should have been out of sight by then. They woke up in the second half but didn't have the quality to even the score. Second half was disappointing from a Rovers perspective, but we held on so I'll take it and move on. In a way I'm glad we didn't move into 5th or 6th, as being outside the playoffs might delay the next death spiral a little longer.

Well your opinion is very different to people at the game inside Pride Park stadium.

If Nyambe is fit for the Fulham home game then for me Buckley moves into Centre midfield with Travis and Rothwell. Johnson drops out.
