They’re just had a break for the World Cup. I’ll bet they’re all champing at the bit to be involved! I don’t think I’d rest anyone bar Ayala, as he’s prone to an injury or two…

I was replying to your suggestion to give the players days off, not whether we should rest them for the cup tie or not.

Days off ! They’ve just come back from their holidays in Spain !  I’ll tell you something - “ Keep telling players that they’re tired and they’ll play like it. “

Days of my arse! Good job they never worked down’t pit. Footballers wouldn’t know what a hard days eoyy to k was if it hit them in the face.

I assume you are speaking from experience!

Criticising footballers because they earn a good living from their profession is a tad unfair. They and their families invest lots of time and effort to get where they are and the money they get reflects the value clubs put on them.

We stopped the downward spiral against Cardiff who haven't won for 9 matches, some of the players looked off key. I would rest some players and give some of the 2nd 11 game time. Our we interested in the cup or maintaining our top 6 position. It also gives time for our walking wounded  to heal.

Markanday hasn’t shown me anything to suggest he’s the answer

Weak, his shot can be poor and bar a few dribbles here and there seems anonymous

But he hasn’t had many chances, so we could do worse, but something tells me he isn’t the answer

I see JDT has been impressed with Markanday's development over the latest month and say he will start on Sunday.

At least he has something different from the rest of the squad in that he's can dribble and looks to have goals in him. Might come good if adapt better to the physical nature of men's football.

Anyone seen Markandy play in under 23? Has he been doing well? Just wondering why he is not even getting 10 mins off the bench

I have seen him a few times for the U21 down at Leyland. He looks poor out wide right, but looks dangerous up front through the middle. He has a powerful shot on him.

JDT's certainly talking him up and making it clear that if players perform well in training they'll get a chance. I hope he takes it because on the few glimpses I've seen of him he has a bit of flair about him.

We'd have beaten Boro if the referee was competent.

I don't think there's any harm in giving him a run as the #10, but he's too small to play as the #9 and I hope JDT sees that.

Mowbray really did like his 5'7" and under players (Dolan, Edun, Elliot, Markanday...).

Odd that when he stocked up with so many.

Armstrong was another who was tiny, but he was lethal up top. The way we play doesn't need a big lad at the tip of the spear, pace is probably more important.
