  1. The goalkeeping situation really is farcical. Mowbray has previously talked about sides not selling until they have a replacement sorted, yet he has gone and sold his goalkeeper without a replacement being even remotely close to being brought in.

  2. While I don’t think Mowbray is either dodgy or incompetent, those are two words that Venky’s are going to have to go a long way to shake off.

  4. Why is it a conspiracy ? There's no need for you to jump on every post you might not agree with and come out with Anti conspiracy theories either is there. Agents work in football, more or less run the transfer side that's a fact it so it's is in no way a conspiracy to say perhaps an agent working on behalf of Derby has offered us a few players they want rid of and Mowbray is having a look rather than a scouting report suddenly recommending 3 different players in different positions from one club. Grow up !

  6. It just came over me how close we are to the new season... I'm not the type to get worked up about transfers really but leaving the goalkeeper situation unsolved with only 2 weeks till kick off is pretty amateur. Nevermind not sorting out the centre half situation too. If pre season is all about getting these new players to buy into a new style of play it leaves little to no time for them to come and settle into it. If we suppose we make our signings next week, by the time they actually sort everything out and get on the training pitch it will leave us with merely a week. After all the goals we conceded last season this should have been key for the manager this summer to iron out those creases but instead he's neglected his duty of what his priority should of been... Improving our weaknesses (defence). It's clear that after Bauer there was no plan B, which again is highly amateur. I get it, we don't have the budget to do our business early but surely at least the goalkeeper situation could have been sorted? At this late stage of the window I don't think it will do any good just signing some kid, we need a been there and done it type centre half that can come in and be leader straight from the off, a James Collins type player (not necessarily him). I just fear this messing about is going to cut into our season and effect in a negative way, especially as we have a tough start. Manager and his recruitment team need to liven up sharpish because a bad start could dictate what sort of season we want to have.

  7. Superb. Best away kit for years other than the red and black halves. I have mentioned elsewhere that not enough clubs utilise green for some reason. A bit of green to debut the kit at Ibrox. Couldn’t be better.

  11. This is fantastic! Really stoked for this! I wonder if the footballer they're following is Fergus Suter, the first professional, given the mention of moving towns and a focus on Darwen FC too. Unofficially he was probably the first professional when he was at Darwen, though it was illegal at the time and he claimed to be a stonemason. He then moved to Rovers and officially became the first professional when it was allowed. I've always been fascinated by the early history of both clubs. As a would-be writer, I've considered whether there was a good story to be told about Darwen's early history, particularly the incredible comeback against Old Etonians in the FA Cup (semi final I think it was) where they came from 5-0 down to draw 5-5 and earn a replay. If I remember rightly they didn't score til about 15 minutes from time! Has to be the greatest comeback ever, against the team who were the top dogs at the time. Back then the replays had to take place at the same ground, so Darwen had to travel down to London for it. At the time that cost a hell of a lot for a football club, and it nearly bankrupted them. Locals gathered funds for them, only for them to draw the replay and have to do it again! No extra time or penalties back then. Think the replay was 0-0. Another whip round was done, they went down and got pasted this time. Excuse my memory if it errs, but I believe it was a big factor in replays taking place at the other ground. Not sure when extra time etc came in. Lot of football's early history at Darwen, it was a shame they got wound up over such a small bill (a few grand I think it was?) and weren't saved by Rovers or local fundraising. Rovers have helped save other clubs in the region before, like Accy. In the AFC format it's basically the same, but technically that history isn't theirs now.

  14. The defence is just as concerning. Some decent players have already moved to Champ clubs - Flint, Elphick, Lindsay, Jansson, Kalas. Ajayi close to WBA. We don’t seem to have been remotely close to any of them.

  15. Clock is ticking. Soon enough time will be up. Positions like GK and CB are not ones that can be neglected or 'put off' to a later date as we've tried doing before. Especially not with our record of goals against. A dangerous game to sell Raya without someone already here to replace him. 2 weeks on and no arrival is alarming to say the least. 2 weeks to go. Leutwiler or Fisher v Charlton will be completely unacceptable.

  16. Unpopular Opinion - I quite like the kit.

  17. The story of the away kit by Umbro (probably) The base colours taking inspiration from Blackburn's part in the industrial revolution which saw lush green fields replaced with the grey smoke from the hundreds of mill chimneys springing up . The accent grey pattern represents the progression of the industrial revolution, motor vehicles replacing trains and carts and leaving tyre marks on the cobble streets

  18. This is nothing like Madon said, he said it was grey with a pattern on one half and a yellow collar! This isn’t even close to yellow! Madon Out!!!!

  19. Why on earth do you think we need another central midfielder? We need that like we need a bigger stadium.

  20. I’ve always thought the club doesn’t make enough of its fantastic heritage. And anything that shows old Lancashire as THE heartland of the game and not the ridiculous notion that it is the north east with its 3 League clubs is fine with me.

  21. I would like to take this opportunity to apologise to everyone in this forum, I am a 40 year old father of 3 and not the type man to swear every other word, so sorry but I'm was also under the impression it was a football forum and a group of friends so it was in context. ANYWAY ....... back to the transfers.... hope for a go 2 new defenders and an amazing season for myself the wife and two of my children to watch in our season ticket seats ....... we believe.... in tony we trust

  23. All I can say is that if we dont have a GK at least AS good as Raya or ideally better and a commanding CB - this place will erupt and understandably. That is the bare minimum btw, we need a couple of loans as well to shore things up and not a couple of untested kids - we have plenty of those in our own academy.

  24. Bit of a joke how much of a deal we made out of publicising our involvement in the European Market and thus far haven't even been linked with hardly anyone, never mind even bidding for someone. There are definately goalkeepers out there we could be looking at.

  32. Yet Sterling looking after his mother is ignored in favour of 'being ostentatious and obscene' without evidence. Funny that. Look at the state of this 'journalism' ffs: https://www.newstatesman.com/politics/sport/2018/12/all-times-newspaper-coverage-raheem-sterling-helped-fuel-racism

  34. You are talking absolute nonsense, We have had The Louden for seven years and have never had any bother apart from Republican Sectarian Grafitti ( 8 times ) We have one of the most up todate CCTV systems as well as 18 Stewards. e also boast some of the best Memorabilia in any UK Football Venues and have various atricles published about us including the magazine 442. we were also voted ' The Best Supporters Pub' in Scotland. ( by a non Rangers fan ) We always welcome any English Fans, probably the only Support in Scotland that does. There are only a few rules that we enforce and that is ' No add ons' FTP and the IRA etc. We ask two things, play to the same rules as The Rangers Fans and enjoy yourselves. You will even get the chance of a free Cheese Roll or Scotch Pie. PS it is 18 and over in our premises. Wether you come to The Louden or not. Enjoy your day.

  35. That away kit is the most tacky thing i've ever seen i know it's individual taste etc but it's hard watching your side in a shirt the cat spewed up.

  37. He's not wrong though. Watch back all the goals we conceded and look for what Williams is doing during them. I lost count of the times he was partly or entirely at fault. Poor positioning was a common theme. Did surprisingly well at CB.

  38. I've been thinking he'll turn out a better option all the time he's been here but he hasn't yet he's just a bit quicker Del is painfully slow but better in the 1 on 1's. It's one of those where if you moulded the two together you'd have a good LB but you can say that about a lot of our positions but that's the league we are in. To be a good defender you need to be a good tackler and reader of the game first and foremost. Pace, good passing or whatever else are a bonus but it's all about the basics a bit like the keeper situ, get those and you're halfway there.

  39. I’m not saying he’s brilliant but his attributes are more suited to wing back than fullback...don’t you think?

  40. A wing back has to be able to defend, Bell upto now has shown no ability to do this.

  43. Deals may be dragging, but let's be clear about one thing - no-one in Blue and White really wants sloppy seconds, or someone else's cast-off's if we are really serious about building a team that we can get behind. I know we aren't the draw that we were 20 years ago, and that our resources are somewhat less than some feel they need to be, but that doesn't mean we can't build from the back, with quality and steel to address the obvious flaws in last season's machine. On the goalkeeping front, we can't afford a glass jaw, and you can imagine the speed at which the nay-sayers would ram any association with knuckle-dragging previous employers down the ears of any incumbent between the sticks, should there be less than an astounding return to the form that led to international prominence. We are a fickle lot, us football fans, Rovers fans just as much as any other, but the reality is we remember results, and if we are getting beaten regularly in games with five or more goals between the teams, heads will go down. We should aim always to score as many as possible, but we can't neglect the need to keep the opposition out of our goal too. For me, a season of hard won 1-0 triumphs would be preferable to a roller coaster ride thrill a minute goal fest with us providing shooting (& scoring) practice for all and sundry. Sort out the defence, Tony M, and this season might be interesting.
