Just like Reading Bournemouth game is right now

Didn't realise it was the game on,would have watched it. I would pick a championship game to watch over a PL one, see what we are up against!

Sounds like the honeymoon period is over for their manager so, interesting how that can sometimes just come out of the blue when things look to be ticking along nicely.

As it stands in the league, the top 3 is as it should be.

After that we only have above us Coventry (blew a 2-0 lead) Huddersfield (probably deserved to lose but 3-2) and Blackpool who we didn’t turn up against.

We will win, we will waste leads, we will no show games (QPR) but so will the rest apart from top 3.

So far, after an awful transfer window, I’d say we are doing alright. Not punching, because I not seen anything to suggest we are getting lucky, but we are doing alright.

Just hope we don’t have a 17 game winless streak again.

We are as near as damn it 1/3rd of the way through the season. Extrapolating our current points would give us 70-71 points for the season. That would probably leave us short of a play-off position, in some seasons a long way short (although it would have been enough in 2019-20). Right now it looks like there are 3 teams standing out and a large number of others any of whom could take 3 play-off places. If this carries on then the points total needed for 6th is likely to be lower than usual.

We can all recite games in the first 15 where we could have got more points, but I guess most fans of other clubs can also say the same. Where we might be more positive is that I don't think there are a lot of games so far where we have won points we didn't deserve.

I won't claim any clairvoyance as I didn't watch Barnsley much last year, but I was sceptical they could keep it up after last year's Cinderella playoff run. Their wages are probably half our wages (and our wages are below-average for this division!). All other things being equal (big caveat 🙂), wages are going to be the best first order indicator of where you'll place in the league.

Whatever they managed last year was likely quite sensitive. Lose Mowatt and a couple others, perhaps there's some injury issues, Schopp's messaging suddenly stopped getting through...

edit: agh, had a brainfart and forgot that Ismael left Barnsley in the summer, so Schopp was new (and may have simply been out of his depth!)

xGs table has them 19th instead of 23rd: https://experimental361.com/2021/10/31/expected-goals-table-championship-29-30-oct-2021/ Maybe unlucky scoring goals, but their defense has been as bad (or worse) as advertised. A major swing from last year when their xGs were as good their record suggests (and we should've been 5th according to xG of course 😋)

Barnsley's strategy is a high risk/reward one.

With a high turnover in coaching staff (not all their own fault) and recruiting from a pool of untested names it can pay big dividends or be a struggle. If they'd have stuck to the tried and tested model they might be in a more stable position right now but by the same measure they likely wouldn't have been near the play-offs last season. To be fair to them they've appointed 5 of these European coaches and 3 have been very successful, 2 not.

Ismael worked spectacularly, Schopp hasnt worked. At least they've knocked it on the head quickly and will try something else.

It is getting similar to the Watford model but on a smaller budget. The bottom 3 are in danger of getting cut adrift on their current form.
