Lee0r Posted August 4, 2022 Posted August 4, 2022 We could really do with a CB in today. It’s all gone worryingly quiet. Quote
imy9 Posted August 4, 2022 Posted August 4, 2022 I would rather get the right player in than just any player. the logic behind the three signings so far has been clear. Just fingers crossed nothing happens to Ayala or Wharton before we sign a new CB. any update on Barnes? Someone mentioned he did his ACL? 1 Quote
The Gull Posted August 4, 2022 Posted August 4, 2022 54 minutes ago, Paul Mellelieu said: Anyone else worried about lack of Championship nous of our top two? Neither Dalglish or Souness had managed in this division before, they did okay. I could quote plenty of managers that hadn't worked in the Premier League before but won trophies and were regarded as some of the best. The better coaches will see the obvious, Mowbray has a lifetime's experience in this league and really never learnt some very simple requirements, like playing players in the right positions, not making subs just for the sake of it, and buying squad players rather than fiorst team players. JDTs assistant has worked in the division, and the rest of the back room team is pretty much as was, I don't think it is really an issue, if they have the right squad to work with and I think we are a couple of players short still at this point, but let's see what happens. 2 Quote

While Sammie and Morton look like good additions they are way down the priority order compared to centre back and left back. Quote

It struck me when he was appointed. Not saying JDT is at the level yet - but the top managers adapt to the league they are playing in. Time will tell whether JDT has that level of ability (aka Mourinho winning leagues in different countries), but better than plodding along 😉 Quote

Feel like we've not had one since Olsson (the good one)! Maybe doing Spurr a slight disservice, but it's been a weak point of ours for years. I'm desperate for Pickering to do well, but defensively I see him as a weak point. Terribly slow and often out of position. Edited August 4, 2022 by Jimmy612 2 Quote
Upside Down Posted August 4, 2022 Posted August 4, 2022 Mark Hughes had no Premier League managerial experience before taking over at Rovers. 3 Quote
Guest Posted August 4, 2022 Posted August 4, 2022 Seem to be keeping our transfers really well hidden. Morton only reported by Nixon once it was all agreed. Brittain reported by Nixon and signed 12 hours later. Only way we knew about Sammie Szmodics was the Peterborough nob head going public with our bids. So as annoying as it is, I don't think we're gonna hear much about any CBs until they show up at Brockhall! Quote

Most managers who have been promoted recently haven't had any championship experience. All of Watford managers, Wagner, Fark, Parker etc. It seems to have been the experienced championship managers who have struggled Pulis, Warnock etc Quote
BankEnd Rover Posted August 4, 2022 Posted August 4, 2022 Reports from Barnsley side saying no bids have been made for Styles… Also that Helik bids have been rejected from teams…We should be going for Helik IMO Quote

JacknOry Posted August 4, 2022 Posted August 4, 2022 Helik was their player of the season when they finished in the playoffs. Surely worth a look? 1 Quote

Its a massive problem position for us. The formation is completely unbalanced at the moment because Pickering simply can't get up and down the flank. 3 Quote

Backroom Tom Posted August 4, 2022 Backroom Posted August 4, 2022 Michael Hector still without a club? Not sure how much he’s dipped but only 30 and was huge for Sheffield Wednesday and Fulham a year or two back 4 Quote
Paul Mellelieu Posted August 4, 2022 Posted August 4, 2022 Thanks for the reassurance gang. (Still a bit worried though). Quote

Look at Wilder, he was a lower league specialist before he got Sheffield United promoted. Also Cooper, Wagner and Fark had never managed a side, just worked as coaches before their appointments. JDT has managed and had success, we'll find out soon if he will be able to adapt. I think playing the high pressing game for 2 games a week will be a struggle on the players later in the season.
