Tony Mowbray Discussion

How do we actually know there was no money available from the owners for the right guy ?

Come on, Markandy, Hedges, Giles, Zefuick..... how much for that lot in wages fees and signing on plus agents ?

It's the first time in ages hes been able to do a decent amount of business in Jan but all he wanted really was squad players. He said so himself he wanted multi positional types, the types he's obsessed with. The types that never solve what is really needed.

I'm convinced if he wanted 20k a week towards a loan signing striker he'd have got it. All too easy to continually pile everything at the owners door when Mowbray and his gang usually just do what they want. He's gone yet again for the safe options of people he can rotate and try and blend in wherever rather than try and tailor the play to serve a front man.

Updated: 3 goals in 12, 1 in the last 8 and no open play goal for 700+ minutes.

It’s indefensible yet as above, nobody is bringing him to task on it.

This is the problem. Those stats are horrific for any team or club.

Yet because we had a fantastic run in November and December and we aren't in relegation trouble nobody seems to be batting an eyelid.

Mowbray has the cushiest number in football. Nowhere else would such a run be ignored or accepted.

We would have bought Obafemi who we chased all summer, or long term target Maja if the money had been available tomphil, we simply got priced out of both deals, thats very clear.

Red herring IMO

If a bid was made it was done too late or knowing that he was heading elsewhere. We were just trying to get the free positive publicity that comes with it.

A quick look at our transfer business over the last 4-5 windows shows we don't part with significant cash for sought after players from rival clubs.

If by some miracle a bid was made and accepted the move would have broken down due to wage or agent demands.

We are played by Waggott and co. every window.

More conspiracy theories there form yourself.

We know that we made a 1.5 million for Dembele and we held talks with him. We also had 1.5 million bid for Styles accepted. Both in the public domain

Dembele isn’t a striker either. He would have joined the wide forward club along with the countless others that we currently have on our books.

we don't play with main striker in the current formation. its that system that got us into top 6 and even a chance of playoffs.

What we know is that Dembele didn't sign for us. That's all that matters. We won't get bonus points in May for bidding and talking to a player (even if it is true).

This isn't Sunday league stuff where if a prospective player turns you down you just shrug your shoulders and "at least we tried".

This is a billion pound industry where a place in the richest league in the world was within reach, so I'm not really interested in trying and failing. Each and every window there is a list of decent looking players that we supposedly tried to get but failed.

It is also in the public domain that we can't score goals and it was blatantly obvious to anyone watching that we needed to add to the goalscoring ranks in January. Failure to do so either lies with the owners for failing to provide the cash or with Mowbray and Waggott for not getting deals done.

You seem to want to blame neither.

What’s a “main striker”?

Every team plays - or tries to play - with goalscorers. We started the season with none but got lucky when Brereton stepped up. Then he got injured and here we are. Not one first team goalscorer to be seen anywhere.

Just bad luck?

We signed Markanday for £500,000 and Hedges for £200,000. Brown, Giles and Zeefuick won't be working for free.

Our next three fixtures are Bristol City (lost last 4 of last 5 and 19th) at home, Derby County (lost 3 of last 5 and 22nd) at home and Reading (6 points from last 5 games and 21st) away - we should be salivating..............!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

There can be no feckin excuses for not getting 9 points which could put us right back into contention for 2nd place.

IMO, only Mowbray can feck this up.

IF Mowbray gets his player selections right (and plays them where they should be) and his tactics right then it's a done deal - 9 points on the board.

Who is scoring our three (minimum) goals over the next three matches then? Three points, let alone nine, is not a done deal when we’ve scored one in eight.

The we don't play with "main strikers" is such a bizarre argument.

If that's the case you buy midfielders who are good finishers.

In January TM didn't sign either. If TM wanted to continue to play that way in the knowledge that BBD could be injured or on international duty, he should have brought in the correct personnel. I think that's a fair comment.

Maja was close to £3m+ wages I'm led to believe and Obafemi was out of our price range too.

2 strikers the manager has been chasing for a while, we couldn't afford either booth, thats all I'm saying.

This is the statement that winds me up too. Just because we didn't need to mix things up from Nov-Dec, it was so obvious that we we would need a plan B from the turn of the year when results stuttered and the inevitable injuries begun to pile up. Just because we didn't play with an out and out striker before, doesn't mean we shouldn't have brought one in to compete, demand his place in the side, and you know, score those things called goals (which nobody else is capable of outside of BBD).

Let's not also forget that the likes of Hedges and Giles aren't used to playing as wide forwards. Giles has been playing LWB at Cardiff and Hedges is a true winger. Markanday was the big unknown, but until a few months ago he'd never played up front in his life either.

The reason we don't play with main strikers is that we haven't got any! Because of Mowbray.

Its a circular argument and we seem to be running around in circles with no-one who can put the ball in the net!

If they were out of our price range, arguably it was a futile exercise chasing them in the first place.

Maja only didn't join in the summer because he failed a medical, it had nothing to do with money.

Didn't Mowbray say he wasn't a target in January? Also he went to Stoke on loan not for 3 Million.

Obafemi didn't want to move up north again nothing to do with money. We reportedly agreed a fee for him he didn't even want to discuss terms with us.

Maja who was virtually signed last summer until he flunked the medical. A few months later we can't afford him but we could afford Hedges.....😂

Our plonkers have been pulled again in favour of utility men.

The XI on the pitch yesterday, in those positions and formation, were never going to score a goal. I called it from kick off. Doesn't matter how many chances you create when you have nobody who can score. And the muppet decided to play Dack in a meaningless friendly match the day before, when last night was crying out for him in the last 20 mins. I don't care if he's on one leg, no legs, no fecking arms, get him on the pitch and in the box.

Summer deal was a loan, then Bordeaux slapped a hefty price tag on him.

As for Obefemi, we couldn't match the wages, it had nothing to do with moving North (Glad we never signed him, he looked awful against us even though he scored)

It all boils down to lack of funding and we are where we are sadly.

https://footballleagueworld.co.uk/blackburn-rovers-provided-transfer-update-on-23-year-old-striker/

It means the striker is an attractive proposition for anyone who wants to bring in a forward this month – and Blackburn continue to be linked with his services.

However, for any deal to be done during this window, it looks like Bordeaux want to get rid of the player permanently. The Lancashire Telegraph claims that they want some extra money this window and that the fee could be around £3m.

The issue is whether Blackburn are prepared to pay not just for his services full-time but to pay such a significant fee without a player sale.

They could have found a striker on loan from somewhere had the desire been really there.

No point beating around the bush or throwing names around because they decided on utility men and hope for the best. Just plain facts i'm afraid backed up by various things the manager himself has said.

It's their call.

Mowbray said in an interview after the window that we had the chance to sign a striker but opted not to because it's not the way we play.

Someone posted the link in the Millwall thread.

A decision that looks more and more insane as each goalless game passes.

I think it's fair to say that Mowbray doesn't know what he's doing, when it comes to the forwards. Things fell into shape for a while, but in the Fulham game, prior to the up turn, I believe that Buckley started as a right forward. Now we are experimenting with new full backs as wide forwards, reminiscent of the experiments with Clarkson and Poveda as lone No.10s.
