  1. I regularly and openly disagree with Mowbrays decisions on here and have stated that I felt it was a time for Managerial change on two separate occasions. I start every factual point about Venkys with “they’ve been absolutely terrible but...” Ive actually been a pretty regular poster for 12 months outside of the transfer windows but Hey, don’t let the truth get in the way of a good story...? I have supported Rovers since I was 10. My then football manager took me to Ewood in 1991 for the first time and I fell in love with the place. As for perspective on owning / running businesses on a shoe string and with large budgets, I have done this at six, seven and eight figure turnovers and continue to do so. I do not believe that financial modelling from 30+ years ago holds much weight in today’s financial climate. The ‘plant’ notion is ridiculous. Because this minuscule community has absolutely no effect on Venkys or the club. We’re just not that important mate, suck it up. So why would anyone pay me to disagree with all the miserable sods on here? It makes no sense! ?? The fact of the matter is that we all have a different view on the same issues in here. I accept that, you can’t and look for ‘other’ reasons as to why anyone could see things differently to you. No matter how bad it gets, I will never whine, whinge and moan. I’m not built that way. I focus on what I can see and more importantly what I can control and I deal with it all from a positive base. That’s me. Paul Mani, RTID

  2. FFS! I'm raising three girls, I come here for a break from drama. This thread never stays on topic and end up in a teenage drama queen sniping match. In the end it's going to end up an echo chamber wondering where all the people went. Let's hope we win today and get some players in!

  3. I watched my first Rovers game at Ewood against Sundererland the end of 1970 at the age of nearly 7 in the season when we got relegated for the first time ever. We lost that game 1-0 and it should have put me off for ever but for some reason I've been strangely hooked ever since. Back in the day when we genuinely had no money, we had managers like Furphy, Lee and Kendall who would knock the spots of Mowbray. The current incumbent isn't in the same League. Subsequently we had Don Mackay who again had to make do on relatively limited resources but again was a vastly superior manager to Mowbray imo. Got us into the play offs several times but we didn't quite make it. That wasn't good enough for Jack when he came in, poor old Don couldn't attract the top players so King Kenny was brought in. The following 3 and a half years were history. In later years I was invited to write a fans piece in the LT for a couple of years after our promotion back to the Premier League under Souness and the Worthington Cup win. I was very critical about various things about the purchase of Grabbi, the manager himself and the general direction the Club was heading in. Although in my view hindsight proved me right, this earned a lot of flak from various quarters at the time (particularly my old mate USA Blue). So here we are all these years on after all that and personally I haven't particularly enjoyed following Rovers since Mark Hughes was here. There was the brief relief of a promotion from League 1 which you might argue we shouldn't have been in in the first place given we've been under the control of successive billionaire owners for the last 20 years. I note from one of your previous postings that you started following us in 1994/5. I do suspect you're a Club plant who only pops up at transfer window time to promote the Company line but even if not and you're genuine I think you'd have a better perspective of what is and is not possible with limited resources had you been a fan pre Jack.

  4. He lost the ball on halfway. For most teams that doesn't automatically result in a goal for the other team.

  7. Great posts by both Revidge and Paul M, very emotive, both clearly passionate about OUR club. Lets keep the balance and leave the favoritism to the manager.

  8. Bournemouth took all three chances very well, not sure many other teams we'll face will have the same quality.

  9. Anyone who thinks Bell is an acceptable LB at this level needs to give their head a wobble. He's at least one level above where he should be. He isn't even good enough to be backup. We could put a traffic cone in Bell's place and it would probably be a better obstacle.

  11. Performances like today occur far too often under Mowbray. Some good football interspersed with lapses in concentration. Losing despite dominating. Too often the nearly men who lack the cojones when the pressure is on. The amount of times Tony has mentioned 'there only looked like one team that would go on to win it' in his post match interview. Unlike Tony, I'm always pretty confident we won't win when the game is in the balance approaching the closing stages. I know its only day 1 of the new season, but it feels like groundhog day.

  12. I note this morning that having failed miserably in the transfer market Waggott is claiming in the LT "stability could be our key asset". You've got to give the bloke 10/10 for having a brass neck I'll give him that.

  13. It is absolutely ridiculous that we haven’t strengthened the defence over the summer. We are starting with 3 of the 4 who we got relegated with and 3 that started the first league one game. How is Mowbray, a centre half himself, not able to make one decent defensive signing? It’s laughable. And his excuses and bullsh!t he spouts in interviews is boring. And Bayes is worse than useless with his questions. No hard questioning, he’s just a sycophant. Doesn’t want to lose his access.

  14. Some good stuff to be upbeat about today, particularly Holtby, Johnson and Dolan. A draw would have been a fair result and to lose is something of a travesty but the manner of the goals we conceded leaves me worried once again. Scoring two away from home should be enough to secure at least a point but over the last few years clean sheets have been too rare for me. The new keeper looked fine and I liked the way he wasn't afraid to come out of the penalty area to cover the defence. The much maligned Williams was better than Lenihan today who I thought was poor. Likewise Bell did some good things and some poor things. Nyambe looked like has generally looked for too long - short of confidence in the final third. The number of times he could have gone one on one with their left back and didn't was annoying. He could power past most people in them situations but frustratingly just doesn't. Johnson did well but Travis still looks a yard short at times. Brereton just doesn't have it for me and Armstrong troubled them with his movement and pace. Mowbray should be aware of our propensity to give away cheap goals but this has been going on for most of his tenure. I'm sure he wants to fix this, I genuinely doubt whether he and his staff have the wherewithal to do it.

  15. I think if we have Evans in the midfield instead of Johnson then the defence will look a lot better, Johnson better on the ball but just doesn’t read the game like Evans, if playing Holtby deeper you defo need Evans and Travis in there. Decent performance but they took their chances better than us, Armstrong, Evans, Dolan all had better chances than the chances Bournemouth scored from.

  16. Well, beaten by 3 brilliant finishes. Reasons to be hopeful include Dolan looking bright, Kaminski with a stunning save and Armstrong carrying on the goals. Main cause for concern are all 3 goals displayed really poor defending

  17. Did Kaminski just get kicked in the cock?

  18. He dropped a bollock or two but he also pulled off some saves the like of which we haven't seen since Freidel was here. It was obvious to most people who hadn't got a downer on him that once he got a bit more experience he would turn out to be a Prem standard keeper.

  19. He just isn’t fit enough, and although he likes a battle, he isn’t really a DM. I like his nous, shithousery, and experience in the squad to close out games and get the mentality right... But what I’d give to clone Lewis Travis and to have two players like that in there... It comes to something when I think that Evans would be a better starter, cos I’ve always thought he’s shite too. Where’s Davenport!!!? CM is as responsible for our goals against column as the defenders are. Downing flattered to deceive on that front last year.

  20. Shouldn't be discouraging Dolan from trying something in the oppositions half. Let the lad express himself. He didn't cost us the game, the defence is just too sh*t to cope, that's the problem. Another season under this fella who has consistently failed to sort the defence out. Either sort the defence out pal or step aside for someone who can.

  21. Have to disagree. Yes he made some mistakes but he’s a young and dynamic keeper. From the moment he was in the first team you could see he had the potential to be top class. Who knows what season we would’ve had last year with him in the sticks. He makes some saves that he’s no right to make and he’s comfortable with the ball. With better coaching and more experience polishing up his decision making he’ll really be right up there. Lad’s just 24 too. Could have the best part of a 15 year career in the top flight, starter or no. Completely gutted when he left cos he was one of our own that was obviously PL quality. Would be like selling Trav for £3-5m now. Massively shit decision to flog Raya.

  22. Main thing to take from that game is that Dolan is more than ready to play Championship football. Absolute breath of fresh air. Like watching a young Damien Duff.

  23. ‘There’s lots of positives to take from today. There’s no negativity’. I don’t know Tony, I wouldn’t call conceding three goals a positive tbh.

  24. Lots of encouraging points to take away from the game - Dolan and Rothwell when they came on, Johnson in midfield, Williams looked solid at the back and the 'keeper looked fine. However, you can't win games by conceding three goals. I wouldn't blame Dolan as he was in the Bournemouth half trying to create something - more than enough time and distance for midfield and defenders to cover the break. One of our problems stems from the midfield giving opponents far too much time and space around our own area. Whilst disappointed with the result, I thought the performance was encouraging, in particular I liked the way the manager set the team up and approached the game - very much on the front foot and looking to take the game to the opposition.

  25. Linahen is very over rated ... Easly brushed off .. meant to be our best defender but is weak ....He only looks good when he’s not in the team ... shambles of a defence ... Waggot & TM to Blake with their know it all waffle .... Bell .. Should never have been given that extension.... simple ..

  30. Hi Chaddy. If we miss out on players who have been identified and then negotiated with, once, twice maybe, then that can be called unfortunate. However, when it goes on time after time over a long period of time, then there is something extremely wrong. That could be down to poor negotiations, it could be down to not selling the club to the said individuals, whatever, it strikes me as just poor management, nothing more nothing less.

  31. You’ve got to realise all fans are different, you started off watching in 1970 and we lost the game and you said it should have put you off, why, some we win some we lose, but if you’re following a team from your home town probably following after your father and grandfather you support them through thick and thin. Clubs have different owners, managers and players but it’s the club we support, regardless of success and failure. Thought we had some great times when Souness was in charge winning promotion, Worthington cup, before he went off the boil, and also enjoyed Hughes time at Rovers. You’ve got to see other fans points of view like me Chaddy and Paul Mani etc, we just don’t moan constantly and realise we haven’t pots of money these days to chuck at new players, and have to do it prudently and hope uncover some gems. To say we are Rovers plants, or Rovers PR team is pathetic, we are passionate fans who criticise when we have to but can also see the big picture. You say because we’ve had two billionaires the last 20 years everything should be ok, firstly JW was never a billionaire, but was very wealthy and put his money where his mouth was, Venkys no one knows how much they have, who threw money at us but we’re clueless mainly due to the crap advice from a certain agent. The problem now is we are reliant on them, and if they pulled the plug we would be goosed. I know you and others hate it when someone mentions Bury/ Bolton/ Wigan but I would be devastated if we were going through what Wigan are going through. Can you imagine this forum, lost 10 players from their last match no owners, sold training ground etc, now that’s what I call a crisis, Dont worry,if the club needs criticism you have to, but not constantly. I thought Waggott interview was very honest and think his only criticism was not opening JW upper tier (not my stand) also think he will change his mind on that one. So at the end of the day, think we are all fans, but should respect different views, don’t want to mention the P or N word as boss man will ban me again, let’s say some are more optimistic than others.

  32. Not the same this is it ? Usually feels like Xmas morning and should be on a jolly jaunt to Bournemouth for the weekend on the ale. With no end in sight either FFS. I'm still a bit excited though I can't lie, despite the lack of signings etc. 2-2 today.

  33. 4 of them at the end of the season when he was dropped (following a win at Forest) for no apparent reason. So you're wrong.

  34. I am not saying he is at Duff's level, but I remember when Damien broke through he was an absolute pleasure to watch. We haven't had a home grown attacking player like it since. Dolan changed the game when he came on. We were the only team looking like winning. The high press game that we are now playing needs Dolan's energy. He's the one to watch, for me, this season.

  35. Very early days but he looked competent on that performance and it's nice to see a keeper rollocking those in front of him. We've not had a remotely vocal keeper since Robinson years ago. Hope he keeps it up and stands up to any cherubs who might not like it.

  45. https://www.lancs.live/sport/football/transfer-news/blackburn-rovers-raya-king-transfers-18904319 This Lancs Live article says the Raya sell on is believed to be 10%, and unclear on whether that's percent of profit or total. If it really is that low, that's a fucking ridiculous bit of bargaining we did. Especially selling to a club who quickly turn over assets for huge profits. The fee was awful but I always assumed a sell on of at least 20% would one day come our way. If he goes for 10 million and the article is right, it will be 700k to 1 mill coming our way. Giving us 4 mill or less in total for a young Arsenal bound goalie with a decade left in his career, that we raised since 16. It will also mean the promotion clause, which you'd have to think would be a similar figure to what we will get from the sell on, will never be activated. The King sell on is said to be 20%, which on a 15 mill sale right now could be a cool 3 million. More likely to make a real difference to our recruitment if it doesn't just get swallowed into the losses, so hope it goes through soon.

  46. Judged purely on the Leicester game I think we looked very good - well drilled and athletic. We obviously have 2 main defensive areas of weakness but if we can sort them before the window shuts we can at least have a bit of hope for a good season. We might even surprise a few 'pundits'
    5 points
  47. We've gone through the full cycle of emotions with this transfer window thread, as per usual. The whole justification of your views by how long you've supported Rovers is now coming out, an absolute classic. Bring on the Bournemouth game to give us something else to moan about I say.
