Idah led the line against Portugal last night. Up against Diaz and Pepe. He was class. Would have been a been a brilliant signing. Worth at least 8 million though

I would've been happy with him on loan. Would fit in quite well to the team, would be ready to contribute straight away, doubt there was a chance we could've bought him.

Obviously we needed a permanent signing up top but I would've felt less irritated with him in.

I do think there is a difference in Mowbrey's demeanour these days and it started before the end of last season He looks a beaten man.

I can quite believe he knows his number is up and that he's seeing out his contract.

He spent a whole season trying to inculcate his possession football into a squad that really didn't seem appropriate for it.

I can't believe he would suddenly abandon what he tried to do all last season to suddenly play a different style.

I think it was imposed on him which means he really isn't in charge of the team anymore. Since when has he ever been

interested in wingers?

I am not ITK but that speculation seems to fit for me.

I think Mowbray gets characterised as an ignoramus, but I don't think that's really fair. He, like anyone, will look back at the last year - what worked, what didn't, what resources he had available, and make a new approach for the year.

So in the same way he introduced the high intensity 433 press at the start of last season, I think he is capable of changing to a counter attacking 4231 which we've seen this season. He's got faults, but does obviously plan and introduce new tactics (although many of them I do not agree with- wtf is Gally on the wing all about? etc).

Also - if he was just seeing out his contract that doesn't really align with how motivated and hard working the team appears at the moment.

Where I do agree is he has had the lack of budget forced on him, and I am sure he will - like any manager - move if there is a better opportunity out there. But as long as there isn't a better opportunity - and I can't see any clubs who will pay him more and support him more our there - I think he will stay.

That said Venkys way of working is to pay the absolute minimum attention possible (why - I have no idea at all) and be very reactive rather than proactive in any way. So my guess what will happen is his contract will expire end of year and he will go, and we will start next season managerless in a fog of uncertainty about who will take over.

I would prefer to bring a better manager (and CEO) ASAP as would we all, but the chances of doing that imo are very low indeed as Venkys have no interest in it. What's needed is either 1) the current owners to engage and get someone on the ground to drive the club and empowered to make decisions, or 2) the owners leave and ones who are engaged come in.

Until that happens we're buggered.

A question, if he is as flexible as  you say he is, how come we went for 17 games with only 2 wins and he didn't change anything?

Why did he abandon the high-pressing game which gave us such a good start?

I still believe football is a simple game made complicated by pretenders such as Mowbray.

If the owners were properly engaged Mowbray would definitely have gone last season with the horrendous run we went on. No manager at a properly led club survives that run.

What I find surprising about the Mowbray situation is the referencing only  the appalling run last season which has been done by so many people.

In fact, I’m pretty sure that the previous 2 seasons had very similarly bad runs in the new year. One thing that also surprised me was that in the first season back in the Championship, Mowbray’s team conceded more goals than Coyle’s team that had been relegated.

I agree it was odd we didn't try anything different mid season, particularly when we were getting consistently beat by clubs who played three at the back.

But he does change the system each summer it looks to me. And it does seem we are going into this season with two systems  4231 & 352 which is wise as I think it's very hard to compete with a single system unless you have the best players in the division (which we don't).

There's still some fairly big names as free agents, would any of them be worth a pay as you play contract? Even just to have them round the training ground for the youngsters to learn off

I prefer coaches for the role of someone at the training ground for the youngsters to learn off. Considerably cheaper, should be more experienced, and specialised to the role. Not that the likes of Ben Benson fulfil the second criteria there.

We made a good signing post window in Holtby a couple of years ago. You'd think there must be one half decent striker free agent we could sign out there? Surely?

Sturridge - 32, free agent. Sounds like a sad situation for the guy at the moment and he just wants to play football.

Andy Carroll's move to Reading collapsed on deadline day - still a free agent, 32.

You would think they would leave a space just in case a free agent came on the scene

possibly so. surely the only free agent position we should be looking at is a striker, Not much out there.

Would we not be better using McBride or Burns or Vale as the 3rd/4th given that we haven't loan them out.

Then in January look to secure a permanent striker signing within the first couple days of the window

nevermind wages he's hardly played for 3 years would be a complete waste of time

Not due to lack of talent, due to breaching betting rules. He scored 7 goals in 16 games in Turkey.

At the moment if a club were to offer him a 12 month contract he'd take their hand off.

Last year.

I think the only way that Sturridge or Carroll will get contracts is Pay as you play. a 12 month contract for one of them similar to the one that Rodwell had could be beneficial to both player and club.

Avoid , pay Mowbray and chums off !
