Why is promotion unlikely?

I would say yes BBD is worth more than 8.4 mil. Why minimum?

It all depends when that was filmed. Maybe you are right on that. I don't know is the simple answer

Promotion has a less than 50% chance, but either way, it is incredibly risky to retain assets worth even £8.4m that only retain value on a less than 50% chance of promotion.

That is what scouts are for. Posters are not suggesting individuals, just a generic type of player. Scotland used to be a favoured hunting ground for such players. They may still be there, just not in the numbers that used to be produced.

I give you 3 names for a centre midfield signing if people want one.

Gustavo Hamer from Coventry. 18 months left on is contract there.

Adam Forshaw from Leeds. 31 years old. Experience midfield. Maybe a loan deal.

Han-Noah Massengo from Bristol City. 21 years old and out of contract this summer

its a risk worth taking in this case given how important he is to this team

As an asset he will be worth nothing.  Generally the cost is written down across 3 years so in essence he won't be seen as a asset on the books by now.  Some accountant type will be able to be more precise

Have we actually been linked with anyone?

A fullback, CM and striker to replace Hirst would be my targets

I wouldn't be against bringing in another CM, but whoever it is would need to be some player if it was to be worthwhile

We're already in a position where a player like Buckley or Adam Wharton aren't even getting on the bench when everyone's fit. All of our options there have their weakness, but I think that's pretty par for the course at this level.

No links I've seen today. Maybe its a sign we won't be signing many. Maybe 1 or 2 signings Max with more going out on loan or permanent

I agree with signing a right back.

On centre midfield, I think we have enough.

on the striker target its unlikely they would start with Dolan and Gallagher performing in the number 9 role

The way BBD has been playing recently his head may be in what team hes going to in the summer so  i'd be tempted to get what we can for him in Jan and replace him with Gyorkeres from Coventry

He usually scores a cracker every 4-5 games, so hoping for one against Sunderland.

I don't get how Gyokeres would be a realistic signing. Even if Venkys allowed reinvestment of any Brereton sale proceeds which is unlikely, Gyokeres surely would have doubts about coming here.

coventry are skint, will soon have no ground and ar`nt going anywhere division wise for the forseeable future,we should try to get him,if we cash in on diaz we should definately have a go at signing him,imo he`s a more polished striker than diaz, better player all round

Coventry need the money, Rovers are high up the league and play attacking football. Why would he have doubts about coming here?

I think he could get a move to the Premier League or at worst a club with parachute money.

Fair enough if either of those happens but I don't know why he'd have doubts about coming here if those options weren't on the table.

I see Gyokeres as a peak possible signing. I don't think a Premier League club would be in for him quite yet. A parachute payment club certainly could be. He's the type of player whom we should be monitoring and if circumstances align push the boat out for. He's not totally unrealistic, however if a club with more money than us decide they want him, we'll have no chance.

We're in a strong position due to our league position. Financially I'd say we're in a fairly weak position unless they are coming here on a free or are 6 months from the end of their contract and we can get them cheap

Pretty good ? How do you work that out ? He signed loads of players and a handful have been successful. But for the young lads coming through we’d have been in a mess.

A bit Hash! Diaz, Dolan, Pickering, Hedges, Ayala, Kaminski, Dack, Gallagher to name a few...

Name one or two were we might make money on. BBD, Kaminski, Dack before he got hurt. Dolan - maybe in the future ? Plus he got good money for Armstrong. That’s it as far as I can see. He gave Raya away on the other hand.  Nobodies going to be beating a path to our door for Ayala, Hedges or Pickering. On the other hand I haven’t time to name all the flops he’s signed. Maybe later tonight when I’ve got an hour or two to spare.

When we needed him to sign a player or two to get us into the play-offs last season he signed 5 players that contributed 0.

Most of the guys on here would get at least 1 out of 5 right.

I thought that Coventry had just signed a new deal for the ground ?
