Well done to Adam Armstrong. He's worked hard, given everything here, and richly deserves his move to the premier league. I can't think of a single reason why he should stay here. I hope he does really well. I think he will.

I'm not sure how pleased the Saints will be with the signing as he's nowhere near as good as Ings and is completely unproven at the top level.

I agree, Ings is a much better all round forward. I’m not convinced Armstrong has what it takes to make it at the very top, he’s too one dimensional for me.

So an emergency loan because we hadn't invested properly at the back.  He looked every inch an emergency loan as well.

Out of all the loans we've had over the last 3-4 years, I'd say Harrison Reed (wasn't used properly by TM though), Tosin, Elliott and Hardwood Bellis have been a cut above what we had.  The rest have been on a sliding scale of bang average to shite.

That's probably around a 30% success rate.

If we are making 5 loans this summer. The likelihood is that a maximum of 2 will actually improve the team.

Injuries to 2 centrebacks aka Ayala and Wharton don’t forget.

Hindsight is a fantastic thing. Also - out of all the loans last season, Branthwaite was probably the least convincing. Harwood bellis was good enough, Harvey was a sensation, Trybull didn’t do too badly, Douglas struggled with injuries but was an improvement on Bell.

Sounds more like 80% justifiable to me, and the one not so much an “emergency”.

Season before was Tosin, Walton and Cunningham. Walton was poor, however we needed a GK and I’m happy we waited because the player we got eventually is a cracking GK. Tosin was excellent and Cunny got injured early doors.

Hard to suggest that season was “loan bust”?

Season before - Palmer, Brereton (with fee agreed) and Harrison… I would say all three decent acquisitions at the times.

Again - an improved squad due to loans.

Despite all this, we could easily sign 5 loans this season and it could be 0% successful, but I’d put that down to choice of player recruited - not because they’re “loans”.

In an ideal world weve just signed Harry Wilson 12m in attempt to instantly get promoted, but I’m sure most rovers fans would accept that’s almost impossible when trying to compete with wages / fees that relegated premier league teams can manage.

Steady on assuming what I’d be doing.

Like walking into Tesco, seeing a lettuce for 50p, then offering 35p….

You can do exactly that, a price in a shop is an “offer to treat” in law. Try it. You don’t like any criticism of your posts.

Read it again !!!

"Adam Armstrong of up to £15m with add-ons"

It's in the wording ie UP TO £15million when adds on are taken into account.

If it was £15m plus add ons, it would say so!!!

I'll back my colleague in NE over any Talkshyte presenter.

Only £15m for Armstrong is a very low fee, considering we have "held out." It is a myth that Venkys always hold out for the highest fee, look at Cairney, Gestede and Duffy for example.

We HAVE to sign a permanent replacement, of course at a fraction of the fee we receive.

This Khadra doesn't excite me, minimal first team exposure, a total unknown.

Loans in general (as long as you dont sign too many) can be a very useful method of signing players better than what we have, seen with Harwood Bellis, Elliott, Reed and Adarabioyo.

Valid point. Looking at Che Adams, its taken him almost 2 years to get up to speed in the PL. I wish him all the very best but would welcome him back with open arms

Personally I think he’ll do well. He can score from anywhere and has got pace to burn. Got to remember he’s only 24.

Villa watch can stfu. It's not expensive, it's cheap. And only possible at that price because of his contract.

And fans don't rate Rothwell 🥴🥴🥴

Less than 50 goals/assists combined in 250 career appearances for someone who is an attacking midfielder might explain why he’s not as well thought of universally.

Personally thought the change to 433 with him one of the CMs on the side plays to his strengths though. Issue with that is the closing down, positioning to stop direct balls behind the defence (like the one kaminski stopped early doors on Saturday)

Of all the clubs thar Armstrong has been linked with, I think Southampton is the best fit from his point of view.  Norwich, he would be playing us again next season, as long as we are not relegated.  Palace might join them.  Southampton have a good manager who appears to get the best out of his players and it’s a well run club.

I wish Armstrong all the best

Rumours that this deal is unofficially 12m + 3m add ons AND Obafemi. Officially it is a straight cash deal.

Sound like Southampton may ‘separately’ give us Obafemi at a cut price fee so that we avoid it being added to the fee due to Newcastle.

To be fair Nicko is pretty shit at transfer info but hes sticking his neck out on the line with this. As above recons we will get obafemi in a seperate cut price deal to stop Newcastle getting any profit.

Did say if the player wants to come though.

If we get obafemi out of this I would be very happy. Much better than getting a loan in.
