v Luton Town (a) - 29/1/22

A point and we're still second in the league. What we all can see this is a battling team with alot of spirits. Ayala coming on and being a real nuisance upfront last 15 mins was great to see.

A said before last year we'd lost this game. Take the point. Now on to next game.

You take a point given we’re not far off half of our B team out there, but it’s tough to take with Bournemouth and QPR winning.

Simply have to bring in 2-3 decent players by Monday evening. Anything less isn’t good enough.

Bournemouth and QPR will have tougher games.  Swansea for us next week, we should be beating them but we need a few players back. Skeleton crew today.

A fairly solid 0-0, I thought we were lucky to be level at HT but 2nd half they did nothing and a point was fair enough overall.

I think I counted 7 academy players out of 11 on the pitch at one point, very impressive but obviously shows our lack of depth.

Our best 10 minutes was around the hour mark and it was the time Buckley was growing into the match more, making that substitution even more bizarre, as we did absolutely nothing afterwards.

Back line were superb again, especially Van Hecke.
Travis the other man who stood out to me, it was his kind of match (scrappy). Likewise Johnson did a job and fair play he’s managed back to back 90 minutes.

It puts a little bit more pressure on the Swansea match, but a win there and we’ve got to be delighted with 4 points from the 2 fixtures (and 4 points clear of 3rd).
For a bit of perspective, Luton were favourites for this match and getting through Boro (50/50) and Luton (Luton favs) with 4 points and no Brereton, Dolan, Rothwell, Pickering (Khadra for 1 match) as well as others, has to be seen as a success

Now let’s get back to loaning some 16 year old lads and selling Rothwell to our rivals!

We have to keep going and keep the belief. One point at Luton is okay.

We have to make sure we don't lose our confidence like last season. Constant injuries, incompetent refereeing and teams bullying us. We have to rise above it and keep pushing ahead.

We definitely need more firepower given injuries, but I thought Zeefuik looked okay and JRC looked much better today, which is promising at least.

Didn't mind Ayala coming on but Buckley looked like the only person who'd have been able to put it on his head.

Take a point  didn't lose. You can't win every game and we were never going to be running away with automatics. If we get 2nd it'll be a scrap so days like today are not a cause for concern.

Shows we need a couple of bodies in the door in the next couple of days though

What a fight this was. Players on both sides must be exhausted.

For the rest of season though we need Rothwell and Ben back in the team, injury free....I fear anything less and the wheels will come off, as we are stretched to the very limits. We need to hit some stretch of injury luck.

Overall a dissappointing day, many if our rivals getting 2 points over on us. Suppose though with circumstances against us with no attackers, a point away at Luton isnt horrendous though.

Back 3 were superb, Travis and Johnson both good too. Thought the decision to play Zeefuik in a forward position was the wrong one but thought he had a poor game, none of his runs led to anything. Rankin Costello was poor, his crossing is not up to scratch. Gallagher and Butterworth did nothing nor did Buckley who also kept wasting set pieces.

West Brom lost 2-0 at Millwall...they are on a really poor run. Seems QPR are on a run. Reading dreadful side.

The bottom five - with the exception of Derby - are all way, way below the division standard tbh. The fact Derby are within 8 points of safety is remarkable really. One look at their GD compared to those around them (0 compared to -19, -22, -30, -25) shows that they shouldn't really be in the same bracket.
